A number of countries are leading the way with either government or health insurance support for the costs of transitioning.

The level of medicare rebate for SRS in this country can only be described as pathetic.

The link below is to Cigna Insurance in America and outlines what they cover and what they don’t.

If there are other links or worthwhile information that we should try and consolidate in one place please post here.

For me any changes will be too late but it’s time to raise the level of knowledge and debate about our real medical support needs…I pay a medicare levy, so why shouldn’t I be covered for necessary medical procedures through both medicare and private insurance.

Which in summary, they include SRS, but not FFS (which is classed as cosmetic surgery.)

The rules for SRS are as follows:

Diagnosed GD for at least 2 years.
Been ‘full time’ for a minimum of 12 months.
Been on HRT for a minimum of 12 months. (Can be simultaneous with RLE)
    2xDoctors have to confirm
    1xPsych has to concur.

Seems quite fair an balanced (for an insurance) and seems to be about what it takes to get SRS in most of the western world regardless of paying for it yourself or not.
