WASHINGTON, D. C., November 8, 2011–The majority of American Catholics disagree with the teachings of their bishops on sexual issues so often that it is a wonder that the news media continues to speak of the Catholic Church’s position on a given issue when what they really mean is the position of the Catholic hierarchy.

This is nowhere more evident than in recent polling on transgender issues that found that 93 percent of American Catholics believed that transgender people deserve the same legal rights and protections as other Americans. The hierarchy, on the other hand, teaches that transsexual individuals do not exist, and that those who believe themselves to be transsexuals suffer from a psychiatric disorder.

Everyone has, in the past frequently heard all those puritanical ravings by the hiararchy of religious groups before; yes they’re in Australia. I think it absolutely rich coming from sexually abusive Christian groups who cover up for their abusive Priests and brothers.
I apologise to my strongly Christian brothers and sisters but this sort of crap coming from Catholic, Anglican and other Christian denominations brings my blood to boiling point, and beyond. Reminds me of some Christian groups who profess to have the power to heal gender and sexual diverse people. Such claims have been thrust upon me in the past. Believe me it’s a load of old codswallop. There I’ve got that off my chest.

If so many Xtians are onside in the States then why don’t they say as much to their powers that be be and make some changes for the oppressed. Then again, thinking about it, the Pope does wear some lovely maxidress sparkly numbers and those red slippers are to die for!! May be hope yet?
