Nose Job
Posted by Anonymous on 08/02/2012 at 1:31 amHi All
Ive been recently diagnosed with severe Sleep Apnea . This mjay be fully or partly due to having a blocked nose ( the result of botched adnoid surgery in my childhood ) . I have heard that some other girls have had a similar condition and were lucky to find a ENT surgeon who not only unblocked the nose but trimmed /slimmed it down at the same time
would any girl know of a surgeon who does or would do this ?
This would be the start of FFS for me and d its an ideal use of an opportunity …

I had blocked nose hay fever all my life until I tried flaxseed oil. I tried this because I thought it might keep diabetes away. I fixed heaps.
When I started it I have hay fever so bad I could barely see. Two weeks after starting it (4teaspoons per day) by hay fever disappeared never to be seen again. Cholesterol dropped 25% with HDL up, body oder improved and I can breath though nose now.
The way this is supposed to work is by getting omega 3 into the body, our diet is saturated with the omega 6 oils are inflammatory (especially arachadonic acid). The body needs both but if the body only gets the 6 it absorbs it in preference to the 3. We need a lot of 3 to balance out the excess 6. This excess of omega 6 may be the cause of diabetes II in some cases. This may in future be found to be influencing heart disease.
Food for thought. This is worth a try as it is cheaper than surgery or a resmed sleep apnea ventilation device.
Best wishes

Guest09/02/2012 at 6:44 pmHi Vicki, Suzzanne
I have had a blocked nostril (mostly my right) most of my life, have lately in the past couple of years had watering eyes (always my right, sometimes both), and have also had a form of sleep apnea for the past 2- 3 years, where I can nearly always go to bed late, but wake early. My body clock tells me I should wake at 4:30 am, so up I get, but not fresh as a daisy.
I have had an eratitic sleeping pattern for years, which has not helped my appearence and has caused me much distress, (especially now approaching 60 when I am trying to look my best)
My watering eye has been embarrasing when out, mascara streaming down my face, always imagined worse than actually, but even so, I wipe my eye in frustration with a tissue or whatever is handy, which eventually causes my right eye to become sore.
My right nostril blocks up, but that I can deal with. I have been taking multi B and E capsules, and I don’t seem to get my eye watering as much, although now I notice my longish hair starting to curl uncontrolably which is becoming another pain in the a**e !!!
Darn !! What can I say? ‘That’s life with Sanyo’
Do these symptoms seem familiar to anyone ? Should I also try Flaxseed oil ?Jannine. 🙄

Guest09/02/2012 at 11:35 pmIt is my understanding that this condition is caused by a “floppy back palate”, (dont know the medical term), and as such usually has nothing to do with blocked noses etc.
The “FBP” closes over the airway whilst you are asleep and despite all sorts of “breathing technique” seminars, which probably cost the earth, the only way to allievate “OSR”, aka Obstructive Sleep Apnoea with certainty, is via a CPAP machine. (Constant Positive Air Pressure).
As already mentioned these are manufactured by companies such as Resmed. Not cheap…. But a heart attack from lack of oxygen or a nasty car crash from falling asleep at the wheel in the middle of the day, would be much worse.
Hope this helps.

Guest10/02/2012 at 8:35 pmThat sounds about right. Most mornings I wake with a blocked nostril, sometimes it wakes me up. I guess I’ll have to put up with it because spending money is not something I like to do. …Except on new dresses, of course!!
Maybe if I try sleeping upside down, or standing on my head for short periods. Hmmm.
I can recall impromptu ‘powernapping’ at times in my life. In 1971 I fell asleep at the wheel and wiped out a timber bus shelter in Glen Eira Rd Caulfield. I had just come off night shift, and being an irresponsible 19 year old, I managed a quick getaway. But maybe that was due to lack of sleep, which has plauged me all my life. Another time around 1988 I ‘blacked out’ at the wheel, and rearended a local car a split second after I ‘woke up’
Nowadays I can’t sleep for 8 hours, I go to bed late. Get up with the sparrows. I fall asleep watching the arvo news, ..but I feel great afterwards, usually. Some nights I do get a restfull sleep, albeit short.
I just hate what this has done to my complexion over the years. Now I will probably need a bucket full of botox to repair the damage !! 😳

Hi Suzz,
I did have nose surgery to improve my breathing after I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. The surgery was a great success but I still need my CPAP machine to ensure I get a good nights sleep (before surgery that was never I sure thing). My surgery never involved shaping the outside of my nose, it was only my about breathing.
I will PM you soon.

Guest06/10/2012 at 1:14 amHi Girls ,
I had this dreadful operation .The surgeon agreed to do some minor reshaping of my nose ,but only 20 mins before the op reneiged ,said he wouldnt do it ,so I had my nose “ublocked ‘ .Yes its easier to breathe though it now ,but I still have to use a cpap machine to avoid apnea
A long time friend recommended the surgeon and the procedure as he had ahd it all …Now he tells me that despite having this and 2 other grizzly ops he still uses a splint in his mouth – like a modified mouthgard AS well, to be able to sleep well without a CPAP machine -OMG
My advice is to just get a CPAP machine if diagnosed with apnea rather than possibly going through all this crap ! If your nose is too big go to a plastic surgeon for this op only

Guest07/10/2012 at 1:15 amHi Suzz and anybody interested
In December 2003 I stared taking flaxseed oil after seeing a ABC Catalyst show on omega 3. Reading between the lines it looked like the lack of omega3 and excess of omega6 looked like a possible cause of diabetes type2 and since my mother had it it got me worried so I did a bit of research and came up with flaxseed/linseed oil as a good source.
When I started I was having a very bad case of hay fever. Two weeks later it stopped and has not been back. Up to that point I always had a blocked nose and now it is clear .
Also after about 3 months I had some blood tests done and cholesterol had dropped 25%.
Body odor went down and energy level went through the roof in the first few weeks but has gone back to normal now.On the sleep apnea business has anybody tried singing, holding long notes my improve the tone of the muscles in the neck and hold the airways open. Just a thought.
Some recent research came up on radio that sleep apnea increases heart disease below 50 years but improves the risk or recovery for those over 50 years old.Vicki

Guest07/10/2012 at 8:27 amDid you have done as a public patient or a private patient?
The reason I ask is because recently I had my feminizing rhinoplasty surgery done by a Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic surgeon in a private hosptial which was a big difference to my previous expereince in a public hospital. In my recent surgery the surgeon also repaired my deviated septum at the same time, which has improved my breathing enormously. From previous expereince, and previously working as a srub nurse, (instrument nurse), in a public hospital operating theatres (Royal Brisbane Hospital, and Logan hosptial), I found that ENT clinics and their surgeons are about restoring function. The difference is about $6500 and an extra hour to hour and a half theatre time. When I had a rhinoplasty done in the eighties it took about an hour and a half in a public hospital to restore function. This seemed to be standard when I scrubbed in for a rhinoplasty session. This time my own surgery took between two and half hours to nearly three hours as there was a lot of remodelling to do. I don’t think a public hosptial theatre would spend that much time or money if it didn’t need to or if they had a particularly heavy day ahead of them. In a public hosptial the theatres are always pressed to get waiting lists down.I suggest if anyone is considering any facial surgery it is best to go private (or Thailand) because you have more of a say in what is going to be done as far as is possible. Always go to at least two surgeons. The first one I went to was not interested in my ‘feminizing’ ideas, the next one was quite keen and not quite $2000 in difference. Above all you need a surgeon who is prepared to listen to you. And if you consent (contract) for a procedure that is what you are supposed to get. The surgeon that did my nose noted that I wanted to feminize my nose and showed me in writing what his approach was going to be in order to try to achieve the results. Ask heaps of questions, if they won’t answer you in detail or show you photos of their previous results – go else where (this includes SRS).The first surgeon did not show me any photos of his results (neither did the SRS surgeon in Melbourne for that matter). I gave them both the flick.
The other thing is to expect an improvement, not perfection – it doesn’t exsist in nature and surgeons are not miracle workers, though my surgeon is known for being a perfectionist.
I hope this helps.
