NSW: Recommendations for TG friendly Clothes stores In Sydney
Posted by Christine_W on 30/05/2015 at 8:28 amThe Cue store in the Westfeild complex at Chatswood in northern Sydney has a very Tg get friendly sales woman called Laura,
She was very helpful in suggesting outfits that would suit my shape and she made me feel very comfortable. She was not fazed at all when I introduced myself as transgendered.
I would go back there again only with more cash next time
However, The cue store in the Chatswood Chad complex became decidedly frosty when I said I was shopping for myself.

Guest01/06/2015 at 7:57 amThe Cue store at Pitt Street (Westfield Sydney) is also very TG friendly, as is the nearby David Lawrence store. I’m full-time “en femme” so it’s very obvious I’m TG, but all staff at those two stores have been very helpful. Bondi Westfield David Lawrence staff are also very good.
I’ve had less enthusiastic receptions at stores in QVB and at the Broadway shopping centre.
Staff in Sydney CBD DJs and Myer can be very helpful …. or standoffish: it’s a bit hit and miss. However, Napoleon Perdis (cosmetics) staff in DJs are superb! Chloe is the manager. If you go there, you’re welcome to mention my name. If you buy enough cosmetics you get a really good makeover for free!
For a really fun, TG-friendly time, try the retro clothing stores in Crown Street Surry Hills. I’ve bought some really chic 40s/50s stuff there (I’ve been told I should dress my age, ho ho ho).
And finally, for a coffee break during all that shopping, the St James cafe near the eponymous station is very welcoming.

Also MAC in Myer were very helpful. I have had good experience in Myer and DJs in the city in boy mode and girl mode. Citychic are also cool in the city.
Thanks Chantelle for the heads up about Surry Hills.

Guest02/06/2015 at 1:35 pmI’m somewhat bemused by the topic. Sydney like most cities in Australia must be one of the most TG friendly cities in the world. Certain stores like MAC might be more professional in the service they offer but I’ve yet to have a bad experience from the large stores like DJs and Myer to the smaller stores like My Size, Crossroads, NoniB and Katies. Some assistants might be more stand offish than others but that is likely to be because they have different personalities rather than reacting to someone who is TG.

I understand what Michelle is saying and agree to a degree , but at the same time i can understand why this topic is being discussed .
When i first went out to shop in boy mode it would help my confidence to know that the store i was going to was TG friendly like the ones pointed out , this made me feel more comfortable right or wrong it just did .
Now after going shopping and being more conferdent in myself i now shop in any store with no problems boy or girl mode , but the first small bit of confidence was helped by knowing which places to go to at the start when all emotions and insecurities are running high .
I now can recommend Autograph in Blacktown for any girls out west Karen is wonderful and very helpful . -

Guest04/06/2015 at 8:22 amI went into the Bondi Junction Cue store today for the first time. I was greeted with “Hello, you look great!” (well, I did have a Cue outfit on). OK: maybe it’s a sales pitch, but I don’t care – I soak up any compliments I get!!!! I ended up chatting with the two sales ladies and buying a couple of tops, after considering mix and match options provided by the girls.
Of course I’ll be going back there: the clothes are attractive and good quality, and I really enjoy the enthusiastic interactions. These days I’m confident enough (or maybe don’t care what people think) to shop anywhere, but I do gravitate to those shops where I’m treated like I was today.

This highlights a few points on this subject,
There are several stores that are Tg friendly around Sydney that offer exceptional service, so my experience was not isolated
There is growing acceptance of Trans people among younger shop assistants
This provides me and others with a list of “safe” and friendly stores where we willl feel comfortableKeep the recommendations coming as I would rather shop somewhere that I feel welcome than where the sales person is cold towards me.
I am looking forward to my next (shopping) trip to Sydney

Yep – I would rather just have the experience where it just flows naturally. Was in Myer – City this week and bought some sales stuff. The staff were friendly and had no issue that I was buying for me and it was great – discussing what colours worked best – worked well. If I know that the shop is cool I will go back there.

Ive had a few odd looks from other customers while on way to fitting room but since the shop assistant has been OK about me trying things on clearly they dont have a problem with TG people.
as usual $$ are at stake and customers usually get looked after.
