    Hi all

I wanted to share a wonderful experience I had in Sydney today 5/5/2018. I was in the city doing a bit of window shopping as a man and I passed by the Wig Affair, a womens wig shop in Piccadilly centre on Pitt Street. http://wigaffair.com.au.
I browsed the window displays and noticed it was very quiet so I decided to go inside. I normally only shop for womens clothes and makeup either online or in stores that have self checkouts so this was a big deal for me. The sales person asked if I needed assistance and was if I looking for something for myself. I suddenly found myself completely at ease and I explained that I was transgender and new to the whole wig thing (I am completely bald, used to be blond) and was she comfortable looking after me. She could not have been more helpful. They have a private fitting room that I could have used but felt so good about myself I decided to use those in the shop, I offered her the option to use the room if she was uncomfortable but she was fine looking after me in the shop. I tried on a number of wigs and while I was doing so the shop became quite busy with female customers, I was surprised how much at ease I felt. I ended up buying two wigs both a perfect match that softened my masculine features, one a medium blond, medium length with lighter blond streaks and a dark brown, slightly shorter length, which we tried on for fun and we were both surprised how much it suited me and really bought out the colour in my eyes.

I will certainly be returning the next time I need wigs, hopefully next time as a woman.

    Hugs and Kisses Elsa

    Hello Elsa
I use to live in Sydney and knew about the shop but being married and not dressing at all, except in secret, I use to quickly and quite embarrassingly window shop. But many years later when visiting again after my wife had passed and I was starting to dress more often and publicly, I also had the chance to visit the Wig Affair. I like you ventured into the shop as a male and had the same response from the staff. I didn’t try any wigs or buy anything but was reassured that they were accepting. A few days later I returned but fully dressed and the response was outstanding they fussed and encouraged and made many suggestions. The shop also had a number of women clients at the time and they also joined in with suggestions I had a wonderful couple of hours and walked out with a some beautiful albeit expensive wigs. I have returned to Sydney on a couple of occasions and always make time to visit this shop and their wonderful service. I must also mention for anyone visiting the Gold Coast the Big Wig at Strathaird Rd Bundall is a must. Huge showroom a large range of wigs and makeup, and a gorgeous fitting room. The salon owner (forgot her name) has a wonderful sense of humour and makes you feel like not ever wanting to leave the shop. I am sure there are many more of our members who have had their own similar experiences at salons such as these… please share

Elsa, I had exactly the same experience. It was a Saturday so not many customers. I was able to try on many of the wigs with out feeling embarrassed. The staff were so supportive and constructive. I’ll go there again.

    Another one bites the dust!
It appears from a Google search on wig affair that it is ” permanently closed”

Suggest a phone call first before any intended visit.
