  • NSW: Wig Shopping in Newcastle

I have been thinking about going to a wig salon for a while to get fitted for a wig that suits me not just something I like the look of on line and is fairly cheap. Elsa’s article about Wig Affair and the comments from Sinndy & Pamela Jane prompted me to see what was available up here in the country, “Newcastle,” instead of going on a road trip to Sydney. A google search for Wigs in Newcastle NSW gave me 3 choices, one in town and 2 in the inner suburbs. I started with the nearest and simply went down to, “Wig Boudoir,” in Georgetown and made an inquiry about a fitting. The staff could not have been more helpful but unfortunately I would need to make a booking which I did for today, because Wig Boudoir is also a hairdressing salon.
My visit for the wig fitting could not have been better I felt relaxed and well looked after, as Rick ran through a couple of different styles and colors that would suit me better than the copper colored mops I have been using for the last couple of years. I ended up purchasing a just over the shoulder wig with a medium brown coloring that changes to a light brown about half way down to the tips. I didn’t get the fringe trimmed, but ended up finding it annoying so Thursday I’m booked for a refit with a fringe trim.
Also on this shopping expedition I bought the recommended shampoo and conditioner, comb and brush, and instructions on how to wash and care for my new wig and generally spruce it up. Not a cheap morning out but you need to splash a bit of cash from time to time on the woman within us. Rick & Pete as well as being hair dresser are also qualified wig fitters and cutters; they also provide a wig cleaning and resetting service. So if you live in the Hunter and want great service on wigs I recommend Rick & Pete at, http://wigboudoir.com.au/ in Georgetown, and there’s plenty of easy parking nearby. I have added a couple of photo’s to my profile with my new wig on.

Thanks to Rosemary for the her post. I visited Wig Boudoir yesterday to have my old and battered synthetic wig cleaned. Dropped off in the morning and picked up in the afternoon looking much nicer. Cost $50. I’ll be going back.

    Hello Newy girls,

I’ve been back to Wig Boudoir a few times and Rosemary’s notes are spot on. They are delightful, do great haircuts, great wig consultations, have a good range of wigs and fantastic wig maintenance (they fixed my terminally frizzy ends without cutting, by just using steam!). They also have all things wigs like ‘Hair Grips’ and shampoo.

Their services are wonderful but their mark-up on bibs and bobs is too rich for my little purse. So I’ll go elsewhere for wigs and such like.

    Cheers all,

    Paula

By the way I’ve ordered a wig from Chiquel (online but they do have real shops in Melbourne and Bondi) and at half of the cost for exactly the same thing from the Boudoir. I’ll let you know how that goes.
