Guest07/10/2007 at 2:35 amI think Op Shops are the way most of us started out after we had stopped trying on mums things. I used them for years and years untill I discovered Ebay about five years ago. I still have a great many things I won’t part with that came from Op Shops.
I knew most of them around Sydney, and many of the ladies knew me, I think they unknowingly helped in me feeling ok to be a crossdresser over the years before I discovered Seahorse. No one bothers you in an Op Shop and you can take your time to choose.
My favourite areas were around the Newtown district, where you could often try somethng on in the shop. Now they have mostly all closed down to make way for the upmarket shops there now. But there are no shortage’s of them around Sydney, many are quite classy these days.
You can buy really nice clothes for a fraction of the original price if you don’t mind them being a little out of date.
Many of the clothes I bought ended up back in recycle bins at the local church when I had accumilated too much or it didn’t fit. How’s that for recycling?Pamela

I still have some “treasures” I bought at these places and I have wondered why the original owners wanted to dispose of them since many show hardly any signs of wear..
One of my favourites is Merryl Glynn recycled fashion on Rocky Point Road Ramsgate. Ladies there are very friendly. I have shopped there in male and femme mode.Highly recommended,

Guest17/10/2007 at 9:29 pmwell just another great place for us to go and really feel free and pick up some great bargains. I am a frequent shopper at them and i dont know if i am the only one but to me the ladies that work there really make me feel at ease and do not seem to judge when i arrive at the counter. I even got a wig from one and tried it on and she never seemed to mind. So lets go op shops

Guest05/12/2007 at 8:27 amOp shops are great, I have bought a couple of good skirts from them. They are far more relaxed and a lot of really good quality stuff can be had for next to nothing.

Guest05/12/2007 at 9:01 ami mostly buy new now, still go to a few op shops, but like new better
i prefer to shop, dressed as a women.
i always get treeted well by staff, and asked, if i need any help.
other customers usually look and smile at me.
i had an issue with young kids seeing me, but found most also smile and some wave.
i shop at warehouse type shops, and major chains when sales are on.
NEVER say the clothes are for someone else. tell them its for you.
they wont bite you
if you like something, try it on.
ok thats all

Guest06/12/2007 at 4:10 amHi Toni,
Suzanne here from SE Brisbane. In regard to ‘as new’ shops they are a blessing to most CD’s I find them ;ess formal and usually less busy. My favourite shop in Brisbane is ‘Secondi’ in Hawthorne/Bulimba Brisbane. They deal mainly in second-hand designer outfits and so there is some really nice things there for under $50.00 usually. I have been known to spend hours there. Even if you are doubtful about ‘passing’ you can arrive fully dressed and receive a positive reception.
Does anyone know any other good tg friendly shops in Bris?

Guest15/11/2008 at 1:15 pmHi girls.
In North Brisbane there’s a large Endeavour second hand clothing shop (Gympie rd Strathpine). Very friendly staff, no problems at all trying on the girly stuff. I bought a v nice black rockmans dress this week for $8.00. Bargain!!!
As has been previously said, if you make a mistake, it won’t cost you the earth.

Guest16/11/2008 at 2:44 am“When wearing clothes bought from such stores, I often ponder about the woman who first wore them , was she attractive, did she look good in the outfits & what would she think about a CDer in what was once her private space?”
Intersting thought. a lot of my wardrobe comes from eBay, so I have had the occasional communication with the original owner, although not about the clothing as such. I don’t know if any odf them knew I was a CD though.
The only item I specifically know the history of is my Indian wedding dress, which was given to me by my sister-in-law. She wore it for an earlier arranged marriage that ended in divorce, so has no happy memories of it at all. She was glad to give it to me, and knows that I enjoyed it far more than she did the one time I wore it out (to a big costume event back in teh UK).

Guest14/01/2009 at 5:59 amTouche ladies, op shops are great and more often than not I have found something that I would not usually find in a mainstream retail shop. I’m somewhat closeted, so the service I receieve at any shop is ..”oh, are you buying this for your girlfriend?”…
For me, ebay is unchartered territory…Sizes from the UK or USA are different and i’m not sure what converts to an Aust sizing.
If anybody knows how i can obtain a Jetstar or Virgin blue stewardess uniform, pleae let me know. They look great!

Guest15/01/2009 at 12:32 amI am the luckiest girl. I have an op shop within 100m of work and I have literally just got back from there having scored a beautiful little black number (although it’s not what I was looking for) for less than $20. Trying before buying is great, albeit a bit nerve wracking as to who might come in while your in the change room ( a curtain in the corner of the shop). The other great thing about op shops is that you are not buying what happens to be in style in a rack of dozens of the same thing at Rockmans etc.. And just to really make my day the gorgeous GG who runs it keeps telling me she wishes she had my legs! Well the same goes for her boobs! It’s worth all the trouble just for the shopping! LOL!

Guest22/05/2009 at 11:05 amI find Ops shops are great especially suited to early TGs. I have found a lot of good clothes and when they have the $20 fill a bag, you can grab style you would not have picked up otherwise. If only half fit who cares you have 6-12 ones that do. You also can work out your style cheaply.
There are a lot of guys going in and grabbing 1 or 2 items and using the old “My wife was specifically after a ____”. But after I came out to the girls at a big shop, they said these excuses are see through but they don’t really mind as long as the clothes go. Even better when I mentioned that I was after a gown for our Soiree but I could not afford the $95. The lady thought for a moment and said it has been there a while so said $25. Have you seen a seagull going for a hot chip. They are happy if I come in dressed.
The only problem is those who are not out to everyone. Stores close to where you or those you definitely don’t want to know live are big risks going to dressed because you could be spotted getting in or out of your car.
