The first of the shopping sessions took place last night, with the shop in Duncan Street, Leeds, playing host to cross-dressers, transsexuals and drag queens in search of plus size women`s clothing.
Shop manager Sally Stone, who came up with the idea, said the oversized garments were being sorted at the central warehouse and sent to the store specially for the events.
The main demand was expected to be for oversized stilettos, with accessories and plus size clothing also on sale.
She said: “It`s a great opportunity to be able to shop without feeling you have to pretend you are shopping for your girlfriend.
“You can actually try things on in the shop without getting embarrassed.”
She said she spoke to a transgender social support group before going ahead with the idea and was expecting a “huge demand”.
“It`s a whole new concept, as far as I`m aware it`s never been done before at a charity shop,” she said.
Leeds drag queen Daisy du Pont, who picked out a see-through black blouse and a gold dress, told BBC News: “I think it’s fantastic. It’s something that Leeds has been crying out for.
“The transgender community had nowhere to go and it’s great to shop with staff who understand what they are looking for.”
Another drag queen, Anna Glypta, added: “An awful lot of guys out there can’t actually admit that they are buying something that is actually for them, so they can’t try things on, they end up taking it home and then bringing it back so it just gets complicated.”
The evenings will take place on the first Friday of every month.
