QLD: Sportsman Hotel in Brisbane
Posted by Anonymous on 31/05/2009 at 11:33 pmFor all you Brisvagas girls, Annie’s monthly get togethers are at the Sportsman Hotel in Leichhardt Street, Spring Hill.
These events are held the first Saturday of the month and are a hoot!
Sporties is a gay hotel and fully accepting of all people. Good food and a top floor show that shouldn’t be missed. Plenty of dancing if that is your go and heaps of good conversation as well. All the girls are super friendly.
The gathering of Brissy girls seems to be getting bigger each month, sixteen girls attended the last time and we had so much fun indeed. Check out a group picture taken outside of the venue on the Brisbane t-girl webs site.
There are rooms at the hotel to change and get some shut-eye, but they are few and in demand….However, there is a real nice Tranny friendly Hotel next door called the Metropolitan, rooms are real nice comfortable at a reasonable price and can be booked on the internet.
This is a late starting event for the girls…Rock up around 9.30pm onwards and the girls will start drifting in through the door. We group a heap of tables and have heaps of fun.
See you there!!Anonymous replied 8 years, 7 months ago 1 Member · 9 Replies -

Guest01/06/2009 at 1:04 amBarbara is right. The Sporties is tremendous though at all times. I cant go on the first saturday nights of the month, due to work, but I do go there after seahorse, and I always book a room for the night to save me going home (I’m in Redcliffe). I’ve been to Sporties a cuppla other times though, and the people are exactly the same as they are on saturday nights. Its really the most accepting freindly atmosphere you’ll get. I dress to the max, and try to look my best. I blend in with everyone, and have a ball, and in the mornings when I get up, I relax in my nightgown and robe in the tv room and the smoke garden. Other come and go and talk to you……it really is the best place in Brisbane that I know, although I’ve never tried the metropoliton yet.

I have visited this venue and even though it is apparently managed by trans people it is a gay male club. So do keep that in mind if you are thinking of attending. It seems to be stuck in the 70’s (not in a good way) and is basically an old corner pub with poker machines and a small 2m² ‘stage’ for karaoke etc. The female toilets have dark green glossy painted cement rendered walls, a small mirror and a single dim flickering fluorescent light.
I personally think the place is a dump -That said – people tell me they don’t go there for the venue but rather for the interesting people that frequent there.

Guest28/04/2010 at 12:01 amI love it there. The only prob i’ve had is that twice, they have’nt kept my room overnight after booking for it. I’ve had to stay at the metro 3 doors up. Still, there was no prob there either, great rooms too, and i walked down to the sporties in my long dress and full gear with ease.

Guest26/06/2010 at 2:10 amyes they are, i’ve seen lots of GG’s there at times. I find the best time to go there is on saturday nights, but I can only manage to go there a cuppla times a month, and saturday is the only night I can do it. I find anytime after 9.30 is good. I’m going tonight so I’m feeling good right now. Its a comfy and secure place.

Guest24/06/2016 at 1:05 pmHi Girls
I noticed this topic hadn’t been updated in long, long, long time so I thought I should give a bit of an update, from my point of view anyway.
I get to go to Sporties about every 2 or 3 months and was last at Sporties about two weeks ago. The venue is still very, very much TG friendly. Although there never seems to be a lot of TGs there, at least while I have been there anyway, and as I am a bit (ok a very) public girl, I have always visited by myself. Although I have made friends who frequent here I always meet new people and make new friends.
The “Drag Shows’ are still a goer, are a great to watch and the girls all friendly. I have noticed that although mostly patronised by gay/bi males, the Shows often bring straight (or mostly straight) people to the hotel. I notice that the crowd is generally well behaved. Although once when I was there a an argument broke out between two patrons which resulted in a lot f beer being spilt on me. A lot of the guys were concerned over this and gave me the greatest help to get somewhat dry!
I always have dinner when visiting and although the food is not 5 Star restaurant style, the meals are good value, presented well and tastes excellent. I have always found the Servers (all male and sexy) to be respectful, polite and either call me by my first name or madam (don’t know if I like the madam makes me feel old). While I am there I always give the dance floor a good work-out.
When I am planning to go to Sporties I normally stay at the Metropolitan Motor Inn. As I said I am a public girl and they are sort of use to me being feminine. I have written a review about the Metropolitan on Trip Advisor if you want to know what to expect.
As I mentioned I just rock up to Sporties by myself and start to mingle, however I am more than happy to accompany and assist any new girl that wants to go somewhere public for the first or second time. There are some things about going with me though: 1. I don’t leave early; 2. I do drink wine (Chardonnay) ; 3. I definitely mingle; 4. I dance – lots and lots and lots; and 5. I have lot of fun. So if you ever want a girls night out or just meet for coffee and cake when I am visiting Brisbane (or anywhere for that matter) let me know.
Hugs, Emily
PS I have always used the ladies toilets – never a word said nor any complaints from other female patrons.
