    Hi all.
    Transgender friendly bars in Adelaide and when to go;

Directors Hotel, 247 Gouger Street, a friendly venue and great staff, we meet every second Monday for a meal and social chat, from 7.00pm to 10.00pm. See Carrousel Club web page for dates.
We also meet on the 3rd Friday of each month with the Bfriend group for a meal from 7pm and then off clubbing etc. or just chat the night away.

Light Hotel (from the 1st April) on Sundays from 4.00pm onward. A new venue opening soon and EVERYONE friendly.

There are other bars but I have not been to them personally so can’t vouch for them.

    Cheers….Karly

Hi all, there is a grand opening for the launching of “Vonnie’s Big Arvo” at the Light Hotel on Light Square, Adelaide on the 1st April (no this is not a joke) the Light Hotel is going to be the place to be on a Sunday afternoon in SA. There will be entertainment of all sorts throughout the bars, guest DJ’s, floor shows, dinning, dancing and even BINGO for those who just want to sit and have a great laugh. The Light Hotel is EVERYONE friendly so come on down for a great Sunday arvo and party into the late evening.

The Colonel Light Hotel, Light Square Adelaide, on the Sunday afternoon/night has been a great success, especially now with the warmer weather (November) It’s great to sit on SA’s largest pub balcony on a Sunday afternoon and chat with friends. The staff are very friendly and good service, the shows are very well performed and often hilarious. Vonni’s Big Arvo ! is highly recommended by me.

Are these still current and friendly? I get to Adelaide a bit and would love to go out.

    Hi Simone,
Most of the above venues are dead-as-doornails or closed. We tend to go to the Lotus Lounge on Morphett Street, or La Boheme on Grote Street both of which are trans-friendly.
Venue63 on Light Square is a gay nightclub (check for opening times) and Mary’s Poppin down in the East End is VERY popular particularly with the younger set but they play our sort of music.
If you’re in town and don’t want to go out solo a number of us go out regularly and you’d be more than welcome to join us :)

    An update:
The girls and I thought we would check out Venue63 on Saturday night as (a) I had mentioned it above and (b) they had heavily promoted a disco night there and we do love a dance.

    Verdict: It was terrible.

The Mars Bar, which was Adelaide’s iconic GLBTI nightclub for 40 years, has closed and now with new owners is reopening under the name of OZ Nightclub on the 10th June, found at 120 Gouger St. I will find out how things go as unfortunately I am supervising a 13 year old birthday party that night.

The drag shows that were at the Colonel Light Hotel are now at the Edinburgh Castle Hotel, Adelaide’s oldest licensed hotel, 233 Currie St. Vonnie has her shows there now.

I haven’t been to other venues for some time so can’t say much about them.

    Cheers Karly
