“Secret handshake”
Posted by Anonymous on 08/01/2008 at 1:45 amIs there or has there ever been the equivalent of a secret handshake for CDers? If I meet another man in boy mode and we are both CDers, how might we recognise each other.? OK, so I try to look after my hands and nails and get my arms waxed but that’s no guaranty. Anyone got any ideas? I carry a largish seahorse on my keyring but one can hardly walk down the street waving it about.

Guest10/01/2008 at 4:58 amIt has to be the arched eyebrow, plucked eyebrows are the secret giveaway for me. I can have a beard (as I did for the last few weeks for summer without going out) but you’d still know me by my perfectly shaped brows.

Guest10/01/2008 at 9:21 pmHi Girls,
There is a group on the net called “Pinkypals” that suggest we should wear a ring on the pinky finger of the right hand. They also have a special ring available for a reasonable cost. http://www.pinkypals.net/
maybe worth a look

Guest10/01/2008 at 10:59 pmThanks Rose and Linda, I had thought about an item of jewellery. I guess eyebrows are more likely to be a bit of a give away. Is there anyone out there in a relationship with someone who doesn’t know about their crossdressing that plucks their eyebrows? I’ve plucked out a few rogue ones that make me start to look like John Howard (remember him?) but I’ve never shaped mine. Thankfully mine are fairly light coloured and fine so it’s not too much of an issue.

Guest11/01/2008 at 12:33 amQuote:. Is there anyone out there in a relationship with someone who doesn’t know about their crossdressing that plucks their eyebrows?I regularly pluck my eybrows and have even had them professionally waxed, I’ve yet to justify the $$’s of a dedicated brow bar. Although my wife knows that I am CD, no one at work does. I haven’t had anyone mention my eyebrows apart form one rather astute lady who said that I had well defined eyes.
I wonder if the fact that there is an increase in the number of products and salons that tend to ‘beauty’ for men and the increased social acceptance of men that actually do look after their looks means that these things are now not even noticed in general.

Guest11/01/2008 at 12:59 amMy previous post digressed from the topic, for this I apologise.
I think that if a line of jewellery was designed as rings, earrings, pendants Body Jewellery, etc it would perform the function of ‘displaying’ ourselves to each other. The Jewellery could be manufactured in a uni-sex style and could be worn anytime anywhere etc.
There is also a fairly well accepted TG logo that could be used in the design. Sales of such jewellery maybe a source of finance for TG radio

Guest11/01/2008 at 3:54 amIt appears there is no real method of identification out there for our situation.
Audrey, I love your symbol and I would like to have the opportunity to say that I will wear something like that without hesisation.
I would also like to see if others are willing, and if so can we go ahead with something like this. It is long over due I feel
Can we have INPUT please

Hi Felicity
I tried double piercings in both ears-I kinda hoped that might have at least provoked a conversation or two which may have lead to THE question-but alas nothing so far-perhaps us girls in Tassie are a little shy in that regard,i.e most of us are in the closet, and afraid of being outed by asking the wrong questions at the wrong time!
I like your idea of the seahorse keyring but I think the specific jewellry design is a great idea-so who knows a jewellry designer who can help us out? -

Guest12/01/2008 at 8:17 amI would love to see a “standard” established and perhaps Seahorse, because of its nation wide coverage, may be that standard. Is it so simple though? We, as variants, are naturally independent, therefore do we need to be categroised by an amulet, bauble, or other totem?
If this was the case, then a certain amount of anonymity (privacy)would be lost due to normal gossip spreading via our many modes of communication.
Please do not classify me as a Jeremiah, but with today’s relatively free and easy access to information, then we may become vulnerable to any casual browser
Pleaae let us devise some kind of signal, but not one that can be abused by those who wish to exemplify, but not accept.

Guest12/01/2008 at 12:37 pmI don’t like being labeled, or worse yet, labeling myself…
Whilst a “Secret Handshake” scenario may work for some…I prefer to steer clear of such a thing…seek and find things out for myself in due time…and likewise, people can find out about me by getting to know me and talking to me…
Each to their own though…

Guest12/01/2008 at 2:15 pmTotally agree with Lina on this, using some sort of Masonic method of displaying who we are would I am sure on lead to a misconstrued idea of who we are and further mistrust and misunderstanding. Personally if we were going to go down and symbolic route then perhaps we should all start wearing the international Transgender symbol, that pretty much states clearly to everyone and each other who we are.

Guest14/01/2008 at 1:51 amGood points raised there. As soon as a secret handshake exists it will soon cease to be a secret. I guess websites like this have largely filled the void. But it would be interesting to know if anyone has made a TG acquaintance just by acting on a hunch. And if I take my keys out in public I’ll make sure the seahorse gets noticed!

But she really loves my shaped eyebrows and says its’ the best thing I’ve done in 13 years
I think back on my Man days and regret not taking the time to let that little fem leak out. But I was afraid to be anything less than a Man with Hair. (sigh) Thank god that part of my life is so gone.
I wionder if my parents have thrown away all the photos of me as a boy, they sure don’t have any of me as a girl.

I love the idea of a keyring, ring, or pendant. Where did you get the seahorse keyring from? I would like to buy one.

Guest15/01/2008 at 10:23 pmHi Paula, it’s a bit ironic but my wife must have picked up a seahorse and a dolphin keyring somewhere; both about 5cm in length with another 2-3cm of chain to the ring. I don’t know why she bought them but once I saw that they weren’t being used the seahorse became mine! Maybe she knows what I think she doesn’t know! I guess those of us who wanted to could probably find a few things out there on the seahorse theme to wear. Perhaps those of us who like to go for the trashy look could seek out a Leafy Sea Dragon! Anyone game enough to have a seahorse as their screensaver at work? The possibilities are endless.

Guest16/01/2008 at 4:11 amI would like to suggest you ring marine parks and places like seaworld. One site that sells items like that is

Made in Tassie as well
Item 5438
They are wholesalers will sell to anyone as long as the order is $60 + gst =$66The seahorse key rings are $5.80 + GST
Georgette
If you see one they are TG’s or they have been to seaworld. he he he
