TgR Wall Forums Transgender Radio Improving TgR Serious debate

  • Serious debate

I have posted a few times on serious issues and had hoped to have a debate of the topic and chance to learn something new of the lived experience of other TG people and their opinions and reflections on life.
I have , however, been dissapointed at the responses so far. Am I incorrect in wishing for such debate or are there girls out there who have an opinion? Eg. the debate on religion evaporated as soon as Amanda posted a block on that particular stream but offered another place for the debate. What are people afraid of?
While I too enjoy the lighter side of this life eg. clothing, makeup, styles etc. I would also like some “meaty” discourse on some of the issues that, I believe, underpin the Transgender experience.
    Anyone else interested?

    Christina,
I’m not sure your complaint is justified – as there are a lot of meaty discussions already in the forum besides the famous religion thread that took on a life of its own.

What about Crossdressing or seriously wanting to be a woman

    What percentage of men crossdress

    How to tell my wife

Why are we the way we are?

Not to mention the topic of little girls

There is perhaps a pattern to the best serious topics

Firstly name the topic clearly with what you want to discuss – then people who want to contribute will open the topic and join in.
(in that context perhaps “A delicate matter” was not a good choice of topic name)

Secondly ensure that the topic starts with a clear post – people don’t take long reading the first post in a thread to decide if to set it going. Save your theory/treatise to a subsequent post

Thirdly – don’t provide an excuse for the posts to ramble on into unrelated territory – otherwise the Amanda topic lock will come out!

Hope this helps…but in the end it does seem to be a pot luck as to whether a topic takes off or not. I too have been disappointed when a post I thought was interesting has just been collectively ignored.
Probably the only good advice I can give is to ignore this randomness and just carry on posting!

    So
    Amanda

Amanda, I wasn’t intending to sound like a complainent nor to criticise your locking of the debate on God, I did point out that you offered a continuation in a new forum. I realize that debates can ramble off subject and I have been guilty of doing just that and that you need to exercise your option to keep us ” on track”
My intention was to prompt some of the members to engage more in discussion as there have been many interesting threads that I have enjoyed but I guess that, for me, I would enjoy more! Just greedy I guess?

I have to admit that Amanda was correct in switiching of religion as it was going off track. That is why I said in one of my last postings to contact me if you are interested. Sadly no one did. I was expecting Amanda to block it soon or if Amanda realised I am out of the equation by offering interested person to contact me personally, she would let the topic continue.

I will have to admit that a lot of postings are now just going around in circles and so subjects like decent photos, I did not read until over 10 messages. I expected the outcome anyway.

I do think there is a need to make the site more lively even if the tabo subjects of politics and religion are in a seperate catagory if facilities are available and Amanda is capable with the workload she already has.

Thank you Christina for the lively debates. I grow more by it.

Thank you Jane, I appreciate your comments. Giving this some thought , it occurred to me that I have not spoken to a Transgendered person , face to face, for over 5 years! My friends are happy to talk about things in general , to do with my world, but can only have so much insight. I have one friend who cannot even concieve of why I might be like I am but accepts it none the less. He is very” grounding “actually , he asks the awkward questions. I call him ” the brick on the end of my kite string!”
I guess that what I am getting at is that I enjoy a good deep and meaningful debate and was missing the lack, as I saw it, of enough of that debate.
