Suggestion: Priscilla bus – idea to raise money for charity
Posted by Anonymous on 14/12/2008 at 12:42 pmHey everyone, Jackie here from west aus, I just had what I thought was a wonderful idea which I shared with Noelleena from NZ, and Claire 2 from NSW who actually gave me this idea of posting it.
I’ll give u my background first,
I’m not out to anyone at this stage except my s o though I think the kids kinda guess, I work in a job that is let us say less than accepting I think but I think this idea is for the greater good.
I want to do something gr8 in my life I love helping others and think this could be it. Okay I’ll get on with it.
What do u think about being part of a team to raise money for canteen (kids with cancer) by driving around aus in yes non other than a priscilla queen of the desert type bus, Claire suggested putting on shows along the way. Isn’t it a gr8 idea or what. I believe 4-6 weeks would be the length of time needed, obviously lots of sponsorship etc but hey dosn’t it sound gr8.
Tell me what u think, yes I am a little tipsy and when I come to I’ll probably go r u crazy, yes well I am a little but what is normal really?? lol
I’m as serious as I can b.

Guest15/12/2008 at 7:17 amwell girls this sounds like a wonderful idea, now that I counted to 10 am looking at the idea with reality. As Vampirella has posted there is a lot of background work that needs to be done. Also there is a small matter of copyright infringement with such an product idea ie intellectual property rights may also be a problem.
The problem is look large but with people that have brilliant personalities would be able to market this idea to larger corporations to invest into. I think you’ll have to obtain some legal advice of the pros and cons of the development idea. But if you have the time bubbly personality this can be a brilliant way of of raising money for cancer charity.
the problems are not impossible to get around all over like most projects it’s time in seed money which is needed.
If the project does start please don’t hesitate to drop us a line to see if we can help you.Penny

Guest20/12/2008 at 10:18 pmHi Jackie
I was just revueing Amanda’s new organisation of the forum, and came across a thread started by Georgette which was named training image. She looked at the image of transgender society she proposed an idea of helping elderly people who no longer had the ability to get out into society to meet people. Her idea was a group of girls could go to let’s say a nursing home provide conversation song and dance if they can, to give back to the community within their state. And in doing this would bring cross dressing, transgender society into the light which hopefully would give us better control of our message. Of being normal outgoing people who can give back to others, then their own people.
it’s not quite a Priscilla bus but as an idea does sound like a plausible idea, but now let me put my business hat on, sometimes older communities can be a group of people that will never understand what we do. Yet again we need to find people with bubbly personalities quick thinkers and an ability to calm troubled waters. Within the tranny radio sisterhood I have chatted to these type of people, they are out there once again if the ability of organisation finding people with time will be the problem.
I do love the idea of a small group within society changing the way others see them, and I still wish the very best for whom have takes on this Herculean task. I also think that there would be government departments that would be able to help fund this sort of work, if you know how to present the information.
Penny.

Guest21/12/2008 at 12:40 amHello people…I am new to the site and this is my first “Post”, but I thought, I would put my “Two bobs worth in” here.
The basic concept of this idea is great. The trick to make it work is KISS…Keep it simple stupid…I’m not saying any of the people who want to do this are stupid, far from it…it’s just a phrase ok?
But, keeping it simple, from the start and not over complicating the project, will get things off the ground and moving rather smoothly and quickly.
There seems to be a large community here, from all walks of life, and I am sure, there are heaps of people with the necessary talent, connections and positions in companies, to contribute something.
Even if they cannot go on this odyssey, they can be a part of it indeed.
How many “girls” here are in advertising companies, how many vehicle mechanics, drivers, Logistical people, promotional professionals, etc..Importantly, any “girls” here, own a bus company with a spare bus doing nothing? ha, ha.
Every one has something to offer if we are serious to do this.
Look, I lived out west of Brisbane, a five hour drive, in a little country place called Tara. Its full of real rednecks and it is a real rough town. Its so dry, with many people scrapping an existence…just. No real entertainment, but the local couple of pubs and fights on the footpath outside.
Then, out of the blue, a Tranny Review just turned up in town. They threw up a couple of posters and put on a show in the local town hall. It was the best night Tara ever had and it is still talked about years later. No fights, every one had a fabulous time and enjoyed it heaps. I never knew there were so many people actually living in the area until this night.
Outback people are so staved of different entertainment, something out of the ordinary will be well attended and well received.
They are doing it tough with the drought and other things. A project like this, can only succeed and all will have heaps of fun in the process.
As I stated at the beginning, this is my “Two bobs worth”, but even if I couldn’t go, or had nothing in experience to offer, I would still put my hand in my pocket and contribute something to make this worthwhile idea rolling and make it happen.

The Logistics of a bus journey would be a challenge BUT I love the concept of TG’s identifying themselves openly as people who care about others in the general community and at the same time blowing away misconceptions about TG people.
In my experience iI’s difficult to find a more trusting and friendly group of people than in this community .
You have opened the doors to some wider discussuion on ideas Well Done

Guest01/01/2009 at 11:17 pma new year, a new idea — raising money to charity is a lovely idea, but maybe too many of us do not wish to be in the limelight. So how about helping with even our community itself such as helping in the gay and lesbian Mardi Gras 2009 I know that a lot of girls here will say they’re not gay and that’s all well and fine. And help in the Mardi Gras to be a volunteer you don’t have to be!
This may be a start getting the transgender community known, for the Mardi Gras itself only acknowledges Drag queens as being the only part of our community. From here you would be able to help in many other foundation, that are part of the gay lesbian and transgender community.
This may be a twist on the original idea but it’s a way of getting the ball rolling.
Penny.
