Surgeons in Thailand
Posted by Anonymous on 31/08/2010 at 9:20 pmI usually manage to find the wrong place to put my posts so we shall see.
I know there are a number of surgeons that a number of you girls who have seen for both SRS & FFS, I have been doing a lot of reading on various surgeons profiles and looking at accomodation ( Bambi what a fantastic Info package you have put together) Can I ask those who have been before me their reccomendations of surgeon / accomodation and why.
I am looking at early Feb next year and I am going to be flat strap at work in the next 3 months I just want to be as informed as I can be as I know I won’t have much time once I get busy.
Hugs

Guest01/09/2010 at 3:39 amHi babe, Chettawut, Suporn, Sanguan, Saran, and Kunaporn are all worth a look at. Talk to people who have had experiences with them if you can but they can be hard to find sometimes. Names are from memory and in no particular order. My Dr was Dr Chett and I have no complaints at all .

As one usually only has experience for a particular surgery with one surgeon, to get a good research pool you need to talk to many patients 1st hand who have had surgeries with different surgeons. Do be aware that some patients may feel ‘their surgeon is the best’ and even state so, but in actual fact they have only had one experience with one surgeon, and cannot make any comparison. Also be aware that some patients seem to have had a ‘spiritual’ experience after having surgery and may express feelings for their chosen surgeon in spiritual terms.
Asking for ‘a recommendation” or Who is the best?” are perhaps not the best questions, for the reason stated above. Perhaps asking “What were the determining factors in choosing your surgeon; How many other Surgeons did you research; How did your surgery go; where there any complications; how were any complications sorted; were you happy with your outcome, if so why, if not why; what would you do differently (if anything) if you had it to do again, and why?”… may get the replies that will help you come to a decision.
So I would suggest canvass 1st person experiences, not 2nd or 3rd etc. and use this data to help you in your Surgeon Selection.
Thailand-Regarding Accommodation: Usually the Surgeon has preferred recommended Accommodation. This is so their nurses can visit you daily during your recovery when you have left the hospital. So after Surgery your accommodation choice may be made for you. Normally the Surgeon has a deal and the accommodation is a cheaper than the usual price.
There are some Yahoo Groups that may be of assistance to you:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GRSinThailand/?yguid=279586151

I would also suggest if you can – consider spacing out your planned surgeries. I did this leaving 3 months between 3 surgeries. As you have no doubt read- many patients say afterwords that if they had it to do again, they would not have had so much done at one time. No complications, but its just a BIG recovery for the body if you have a lot done at once I feel. I was happy with my decision to split up everything.
Bambi’s Guide – is a 36 page PDF file containing a 1st hand guide that may assist patients with their stay in Bangkok. It features general details about Arrival, Bangkok Rama Hotel, Dusit Princess Srinakarin Hotel, close by Shopping Centers and the Chettawut Plastic Surgery Center. It is available in English, French and Japanese.

Guest02/09/2010 at 9:19 pmI had my Surgery with Dr Suporn http://www.supornclinic.com/ on the 29th of May 2009, and had no complications, in fact Dr Suporn said I was a good healer, a couple of my friends had a couple of little things occur, manly a bit of separation but Dr Suporn fixed that straight away and after that no issues.
One of the reasons I chose Dr Suporn was his after surgical care, the clinic girls see you everyday to check up on you and are wonderful, as is all the clinic staff and will even help you friend/s, partner, family member or who ever else you had come with you for support,
Another reason was his lifetime Guarantee, which means if anything comes up you don’t have to pay any more fees, apart from your flights, accommodation and living expenses and after doing my own research I found him to be the best one for Me, but everyone is different and different surgeons are better for different people, depending on their situation.
And Yes I am Very happy with my results
All the best

Guest02/09/2010 at 9:28 pmDont go to yanhee in Bangkok.
I had the most horrific experience there in hospital, i wont post in detail but email me for any information if you wish.I left there a nervous mess.
The broker was destination beauty and the hospital was yanhee.
That was a year ago and im still battling with them.

As other members have posted, I see no need for a broker to become involved with any planned surgery in Thailand. Air Flights can be booked online by you, and as other members have posted, most Thai Surgeons arrange Airport pickup and all transportation and accommodation. I really cant see any advantages in paying for such a broker ‘service’.
If members are concerned with language differences, I suggest when writing to Thai surgeons, check that your e-mails are simple and easily understood. Perhaps don’t ask ‘negative questions” for example “I don’t have to arrange transportation to/from the airport do I?”. In the west if you do not have to arrange your own transportation the answer would be ‘no”, but in the east the answer may be “Yes” (you do not have to arrange your own transportation). So its best to ask directly like “Do I need to arrange transportation to/from the airport?”.
Using simple English in your e-mails can help with the communication I suggest.
I can only relate my Experience with Doctor Chettawut’s Plastic Surgery Center…
It is run on a personal basis. The Doctor replies personally to all correspondence (e-mails etc.). His nursing staff consists of a team of selected dedicated professionals that have worked together well for a long time.
This personal attention starts when you arrive at the Airport and are met and driven to your hotel with Doctor Chettawuts personal driver. All transportation between the Airport, Hotel, his Surgery Center and the Hospital is included in most Surgery Packages. (Surgery costing USD$2,000 or more)
The Doctors method is to use his Surgery Center for all surgeries. Doctor Werra is the anesthesiologist. The Doctor and his surgical Nurses will visit you during recovery on a (2 hourly) basis, while you are in the Surgery Center.
The personal care continues when you have returned to your hotel.
The same surgical nurses that assisted with your operations will visit you daily (except Sundays) at your hotel during the recovery period. They will attend to your needs; SRS Dilation techniques, AM Massage techniques, cleaning and bandaging and general replacement of medications and other things. Doctor Chettawut is informed of your status on a daily basis through his surgical staff. This attention to detail and personal involvement by the nursing team is all part of Doctor Chettawut’s method of assisting you with your surgery and making your time in Bangkok, Thailand as relaxed and as worry-free as possible.
Again I just cant see what advantages a surgery broker could offer.

Guest06/09/2010 at 12:13 amHi Stepanie,
One other issue is that the good surgeons have heavy forward schedules. For example when I spoke to Suporn earlier in the year his next available date was 9 months in to the future. Many will accept a tentative booking during the remote consult process but will expect a deposit to be paid once the details have been worked out.
I also would not use a broker mainly cause you don’t need one and secondly there are some bad stories circulating.

Guest05/11/2010 at 9:58 pmHello Ladies, thank you all so much for taking the time to assist me with making a decision there has been so much advice and once again I thank you.
I have finally decided on Dr Preecha of PAI, a dear friend from here in WA ecently returned in July and I listen to her story of no pain relief at Yanee Hospital so that one is defintiely off the list.
I am now booked in for surgery on the 8th February next year. My friend I live with is coming over to help me after surgeries, he has suggested that should anyone else be going over by themselves at the same time if they would be interested in sharing accomodation for your recovery as he may tend to your needs as well.
I am planning on being there from the 3rd of Feb to the 3rd March so if you are aware of someone who needs support in Bangkok during this time please let them know.
Ladies thanks again for your adivice.
Hugs
