Trans*Lives is to be a documentary based on the oral histories of Transsexual women and men (“Trans*People”) who transitioned in Australia and New Zealand over the last 50 years. This documentary, by Jade Wren and Transxepic Films, aims to explore changes over time to myriad factors that impact the lives of transsexual people. These factors include societal attitudes and behaviours towards Transsexualism, levels of acceptance within broader society, implications for socio-economic circumstances, medical and psychiatric prerequisites and support, legal factors enhancing and impeding Transsexualism, and issues of identity recognition.

Trans*Lives is informed by Jade Wren’s own transition experiences that have motivated the desire to document, understand and explain the recent history of the Australian and New Zealand Transsexual experience. It is her hope that this contribution results in greater understanding and acceptance of the Transsexual phenomenon.

The Trans*Lives Project begins with the recording of the subjects’ oral histories extracts of which may be used in the subsequent documentary. A personal DVD copy of their actual oral history will given to each person who participates.

This sounds like a wonderful idea a chance that people to tell their story in their words this may be away to remember old friends who are no longer with us a chance that their story to be heard.
This may also become a resource for people to listen to show the challenges of the journey but also to show there is a light at the end of the tunnel there can be a future.
