Guest04/05/2016 at 6:41 amThis kerfuffle is not about toilets, it is about the Conservative Right looking for another group that they can unload upon and know that their fan base will not argue. You can’t do it to Black people or Irish or those rapist Mexicans ( yet!) so Trans are the bunnies. The reasons given are ludicrous, to prevent a 4 year old being perved on ( via Ted Cruz) is just BS. A survey done in the States found no true Trans people did this in the US but 4 Republican politicians were charged in recent years.
The MINEFIELD on Radio National with Wahleed Ali last Sunday pm had a good account of exactly this type of prejudice.

This has gone on a long while but since Cruz has withdrawn and Trump (pro-bathroom equality) is the presumptive Republican candidate perhaps long enough. Part of me though wishes the test was whether a prostate is there or not. By that test I’m a woman. Pity about the other surplus bits of my anatomy that the surgeons haven’t got around too.

Which shows a second GOOD thing about the current “Bathroom” debate in the US.
Finally the general population might realise that all transgender people were not born male. The exposure of the F2M population is great – and will I am sure help people understand the true scope of gender diversity.

Hi All
Yet another push back on Obama’s reported order on use of bathrooms based on gender identity. As is typical of these “orders” they are in this case a Federal Guidance document, and nothus binding. If the Feds in the US are not express in their directions then no one takes these nebulous guidance decrees seriously. The debate in the media, and in this case Texas rejection of this “Guidance” continues. See latest article from news.com.

Trump is starting to backpedal. He now thinks bathrooms are a states rights issue and the states should be able to set rules that work locally. Pity, for a brief moment I thought he had one shred of humanity left.
Back on our home front. …..off topic comments deleted (see Transformal thread)

I can only comment on the absurdity of the way some areas in the USA think. In this day and age where we have Gender Neutral toilets in Defence (And have had for more than 10 years), one can only take pleasure in knowing we are ahead in accepting people in more ways than one in comparison with our American neighbors.

A T-Girl friend of mine in America is now fearful of going to ANY public toilet, something she did frequently before without giving it much thought. She feels that all the publicity has raised awareness not so much of transgender issues but that “OMG you might find one of THEM in your restroom!”
It’s bad enough feeling that you might be a target for verbal or physical aggression but all this not only amplifies the problem but also gives the bigots and haters “just cause” for indulging in abuse sanctimoniously directed at a specific group of innocent people just trying to be themselves.

41The Trump administration on Wednesday formally withdrew Obama administration rules granting transgender individuals access to the sex-segregated facilities of their choice, including bathrooms.
The rules were dropped because they didn’t “contain extensive legal analysis or explain how the position is consistent with the express language of Title IX, nor did they undergo any formal public process,” according to an official letter to the civil-rights divisions of the departments of Justice and Education from acting Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights T.E. Wheeler and acting Assistant Education Secretary for Civil Rights Sandra Battle.
They added that former President Barack Obama’s rules had set off significant litigation, noting in particular that courts differed over the definition of the term “sex.” The letter also emphasised the agencies’ preference that states and local school districts be given a primary role in setting education policy.
“The president has made it clear throughout the campaign that he is a firm believer in states’ rights and that certain issues like this are not best dealt with at the federal level,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer said at a news conference Wednesday.
He added that the Obama administration’s guidance was “stalled, never fully implemented.”
The Trump administration’s guidance staked a position in a contentious debate about transgender rights, including whether schools and states can require people to use sex-segregated facilities, including bathrooms, that correspond to the sex on their birth certificates.

With apologies for taking such a serious matter a bit lightly, (’tis better to laugh than to cry at any time), dont Americans call “cubicles”, “stalls” and was this a deliberate choice of the word??
