hi, i am just throwing an idea out there to see what the response is like…

    the idea is…

haveing a TR party once a year, like the glamour ball but with a few differences.

first is the VENUE – this would be more central an around oxford street somewhere, we could hire out a club or something??? something with a VIEW!!! high rise?? any ideas?

second is the TIME OF YEAR – the glamour ball is held in the middle of winter and it is freezing! this TR party should be held in spring or autum when it is not cold or hot? any ideas???

third is the MUSIC – the glamour ball is centred around older music and i was thinking the TR party could be more centred around dance (old remixes etc..) but also with cruisy music, for down times etc…for example, we have a build up from slower music to start the evening, get a dj to play a set later on and then tone it down before leaving time so people dont leave wanting more…any ideas?

fourth is FINGER FOOD – this party should not be a sit down dinner but a finger food party so people can mingle more rather than being stuck at a table, this way we can all meet and talk more. still have chairs and tables somewhere for those with sore feet etc…movement friendly is the aim…

fifth is GAMES – the party should have times when we think of participation games, maybe a make-up contest…who can put make up the best on a dummy in one minute? i dunno, post your ideas?

anywayz that is my idea, i am willing to help organise it if we get a good response and others are willing to help, post ideas and lets see where it takes us…

bye for now Anita D 😆

While I agree with the other parts of your suggestion, I’d much rather see a venue completely out of the city. Somewhere more laid back with plenty of accommodation on site.

anita – what a fantastic idea! and sorry i didn’t get to catch up with you and sarah on ball night (so many people, so little time). i agree with all of the stuff you put, especially the music …

as for your suggestion, alice, i thought the “mer-cure-ray” was about as far out of the city as you want to make it. it seems like a lot of girls stayed for more than one night and had other events to go to, including venturing into the city. any furhter out than mascot, and you are starting to incur serious money for transport (and i would think driving may take something away from the in-the-city experiences that involve alcohol). but for sure, another venue would make a lot of sense.

that’s my ten cents worth today! i sense a momentum building and visualise a grand ball …

a venue far out is good but there is awesome accom in the city, parkridge apartments is excellent, full apartment with balcony for 150 per nite on oxford street near hyde park! that is as safe as it gets for a Tranny area…

also i think a venue with a view is the go, imagine parting looking at the opera house or the bridge on down onto the harbour, that would be absolutly awesome and for 100 bucks each i am sure we could secure a venue like that…

laser lights and smoke machine are a go too i reckon for when the DJ plays his/her set…

Yes I agree, what a great idea. The venue is interesting. Alice has a point but so do you Anita. Like to hear some more opintions there. Our inter state guests have to catered for so that is important.

Finger food is good, was a pain at the ball with sit down and we are there to mingle after all!

How about March – Autumn, the end of summer and still nice nights ? Also well away from the ball in August with costs ect.

The games is a fantastic idea, is fun and gets all involved.

If we could keep under the $100 would be good but having a good view is also good so I guess I cant have my cake and eat it to – so I’m told ! Anyway lets see what we all can come up with.

    Thank you Anita,
    Melanie

apologies for the long post …

not having anything better to do, i thought i would do a quick survey of a few hotels around the city that may fit the nice views cirteria. some are located right in the cbd, others a little further out. basically, this will give you a bit of an idea of what’s around. there are quite a few others that i haven’t included, so the search can be cast wider if necessary.

just a word of caution. in april this year, i attended diva las vegas (http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/) and the organisers have put up for debate possible dates for diva las vegas next year (11-16 may), and already, there have been some 25 posts regarding the suitability of those dates. so it will not be easy making everybody happy.

    Hi Anita.

Just a thought….. what about a Queensland ball?

The “Trans Tropical Ball” sounds good to me! It’d be nice to combine it with a stay on the Gold Coast for a bit of a holiday!

    Skip Sydney!

The idea that events can be hosted in states other than NSW and SA has some merit.
To investigate how practical it is I took the current Qantas bargain fair structure and worked out how much it would cost to fly from round Australia to various venues.

If we suppose there is one girl each from
Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and Perth
    – then their combined flight costs are lowest if the party is held in…. wait for it….

    Melbourne.

Yes Melbourne is the cheapest hub with a cost of $591 for the 5 girls who have to fly in.

Sydney comes second at $613, Brisbane is more expensive at $713 and Perth gets the top of the table at $1220.

This is a simple calculation because it doesn’t reflect the number of girls travelling from each state – but it shows where perhaps we shouldn’t hold the event.
Give Perth and Canberra a miss!
