Simple answer “Yes” – there will be a TransFormal in 2014.

TransFormal is not exclusively a TgR event – it is something that I run personally with a lot of help from others. So these forums won’t carry much information about the event until we start ticket sales in January or February.

TransFormal does have a web site – which should be your primary reference.
    http://www.trannytix.com/transformal
But all that is there at the moment is a date!

Well, to be honest, in fact it wasn’t there.
Sometime in the last few months the old web site had fallen over. Maybe it couldn’t cope with the post-TransFormal lull in traffic.
I’ve given it a hug and a tickle – and it does appear to be on its feet again.
But it is getting a bit old – 5 years old to be exact – and maybe it will need a rewrite before we go live for TransFormal 2014.

From earlier in this thread, the date for TransFormal 2014 is

    Did I mention when?
I’ve signed the contract for the weekend 16th -18th May 2014.
Put the date in your diary!!

I’ve now got my TF2014 ticket, accom, and airfare fully saved for. Now I can start salting away spending money for the trip :) , and start my saving towards TF 2015 ;) .
I’m really looking forwards to the discussions and workshops. Those have become my favourite events over the course of the weekend.
It will be great to catch up with folks I met at the past 2 TFs, and meet more new people.

I just had a look at the site.
One of the questions on the FAQ page still refers to TF 2010.
The links on the main page for the Formal Dinner, The Weekend, and Accommodation, are currently HTTP 404 errors
All the links in the sidebar are still currently valid though.

Here’s hoping for another brilliant TransFormal in 2014!

Tickets go on sale on Sunday.

The web site is entirely new this year – so you will find the process of purchasing tickets is different (but I hope not too challenging). I’m hoping the new site hasn’t introduced too many new bugs!

    1) The new website has new logins – so your old login will not work.

Before you can buy a ticket you will need to create a login on the new site. When you try to buy a ticket you will be prompted to login. After you have logged in you will see step by step instructions on how to buy your ticket on the left hand side of the screen.

    2) Everyone has to purchase a TransFormal Ticket for Saturday night.

When you purchase your ticket(s) you are asked to select which table you want to sit on. Read the instructions carefully – the site will tell you who is already sitting at each table. If you want to sit with a large group (i.e. Wendy’s table) then you should organise to purchase your tickets promptly. (It isn’t much good finding yourself on Wendy’s table if all the seats are reserved before Wendy buys a ticket!)

Your TransFormal ticket will be emailed to you. The TF14-xxxx ticket number allows you to reserve rooms in The Carrington Hotel at event prices.

    3) You can pay by credit card, paypal balance or bank transfer.

This year there is no booking charge for bank transfer – but you must quote your order/reservation number when you pay.

    4) After purchasing your TransFormal ticket you can buy an add-on for the weekend.

There are two add-ons on sale. A lucky few will reserve the Value add-on that includes 2 nights accommodation in TransFormal central. If those tickets have sold out then you can buy a Weekend Add-on. Both add-on tickets include Friday night Reception and Saturday lunch.

Because the new web site doesn’t have a shopping cart you cannot purchase your TransFormal ticket and add-on in the same transaction.

    5) As before we cannot hold tickets for anyone, nor can we reserve seats unless you purchase a ticket.

Any questions please first try the FAQ on the web site. If that doesn’t answer your question then contact us through the website contact form.

Ticket sales for TransFormal 2014 have been very strong in the first week. My thanks to the early purchasers who helped me iron out some creative bugs in the new website – but things seem to be working very smoothly now.

      New ticketing structure
Just a reminder that the ticketing is different this year. Everyone must buy a ticket to the formal on Saturday night. If you want to participate in the other weekend activities then you need to buy a weekend add-on ticket as well. Splitting the tickets into two made it easier to implement the new web site (with seating for Saturday night).

      Seating
Table allocations at the formal are made when you reserve your ticket. If you want to arrange seating for a group of 4 or more on the same table then contact tickets@trannytix.com to arrange for a temporary block. We can hold back the seats you want to give your friends time to get ready to book. When you are all ready to book the block can be lifted and you can all jump in! Alternatively let one person book all the tickets for the group.

      Transformal Central
All 9 Value Add-ons including accommodation have now been reserved – though there is a possibility that a 10th room will be released when the event schedule is finalised in the coming month or so.

I’m pleased to announce that 50 guests have decided to spend the weekend in Katoomba and enjoy the full program of activities we have lined up.

That means the weekend activities are now at capacity (or perhaps a bit over capacity!!).

So the weekend add-on tickets for the full TransFormal Weekend have sold out.

We still have a very few (<6) tickets left for just the Saturday Formal (and the vendor expo). If you want to be part of TransFormal 2014 grab your ticket quickly.

      Katoomba in May means

      TRANSFORMAL 2014!

      Don’t miss it!

Tickets for 16th/18th May 2014 are selling well.

      http:/www.trannytix.com/transformal

      *Come for the Formal!*

The centerpiece of the weekend is a formal dinner dance held in the
      heritage 1886 Grand Dining Room.

Now in its 5th year what will be the same?

      – Well you can be sure of lots of opportunities to socialise and
      dance.

      – By popular request this year sees the return of the dynamic band
“Radio Dynamite”. This group received very good feedback last year –
      come along and hear why!

      What is new?

      – The bar will be open till 1am giving an extra hour to relax after
the exhertions of the dance floor.

A TransFormal Ticket includes: TransFormal on Saturday night +
admission to the vendor expo on Saturday afternoon + access to special
accommodation prices at the Carrington Hotel

      *Or make it a weekend!*

Transformal is so much more than a too short evening at a formal!

As a guest wrote last year “Transformal is a place to meet old
friends, make new friends, a place where we, for one weekend in the
year can truly be ourselves, without guilt. For one weekend in the
year we can thumb our noses at the unaccepting side of society and
feel good about ourselves, more, we can take pride in ourselves.”

      >From Friday to Sunday there will be organised activities both inside
and out of the hotel to make it a weekend to remember for everyone.

Planning for the weekend activities is in its final stages – so look
out for the chance for a round of golf, wine tasting, a return of the
TQ&A panel, makeup workshops, and a fun new addition to the Sunday
program. Your weekend ticket also includes a supper reception on
Friday night, and an informal Saturday lunch.

Buy a TransFormal Ticket (see above) Then pair your TransFormal ticket
      with a Weekend Ticket.

Your Weekend Ticket includes: Admission to all free events from Friday
morning to Sunday lunchtime. + Reception on Friday evening + Saturday
      morning workshops + Saturday lunch.

      *Seating at the TransFormal formal*

When you purchase your ticket you will be asked to nominate which
table you want to sit on. Read the instructions on the web site
carefully as we cannot change seating after your reservation has been
ticketed. Seating is strictly on a first-come basis. The web site will
show you who is already seated on each table. Your choice of seating
is determined by when you book.

BOOK EARLY TO GET YOUR CHOICE OF SEATS

If you want to arrange seating for a group of 4 or more on the same
table then contact tickets@trannytix.com to arrange for a temporary
block. We can hold back the seats you want to give your friends time
to get ready to book. When you are all ready the block can be lifted
and you can all jump in! Alternatively let one person book all the
      tickets for the group.

      *Ticketing*

Tickets will be sent by email. If you are staying for the weekend then
you will have two tickets – one for Saturday night and one for the
weekend. Payment has to be received before the ticket can be issued.
If you elect to pay by bank transfer then don’t forget to put your
order number on the reference- and more importantly don’t forget to
pay! Seat reservations will only be held 7 days after which your order
will be cancelled and you will have to start over again.

      *Pricing*

      Transformal Dinner Only $109 + Transformal Weekend Add-on $79

Is the accommodation limited or is there enough for everyone? If it is limited at the venue where does everyone else usually stay and is it trans friendly?

We have never sold every room at the Carrington – but generally by the day the on;y rooms left are the suites ($$$). The web site lists plenty of other options under Accommodation – all of which have been tried by guests in past years. I’m not aware of anywhere trans-unfriendly in Katoomba – I’ve never had any negative feedback like that.

      Quote:
Will anyone be going who is from the Newcastle area who I could maybe share a ride or transport with?

I don’t know where everyone is from this year ( a mistake in making the new web form) – but I do recognise names from the central coast. Tanya (BFS) will be there as well. So yes – but car pooling is something you would have to arrange.

      Quote:
Is there any opportunities over the weekend to go shopping as a group or similar?

Everyone goes shopping…and some vendors bring their stuff into the hotel to make it easy. Katoomba is a boutique place – no Target.

The personal portrait is very tempting but can I find out more about what is involved. Is a pre-photo make-over included? Is there an opportunity to have another supplier do a make-over first? Is this a break out in the middle of the dinner or is the booking for a different time entirely (ie chance to change outfit)?

Hi Carol and others potentially interested in this .

Its a late afternoon.. probably 4-5pm sessionon sat afternoon if sufficient interest exists from the group attending TF2014 . We need at least six confirmed for this event to occur. Regret we cant arrange pre make up sessions or the options of outtfit changes Pose changes would be the essence of this but in my opinion an excellent option for a high quality photos. session would probably be about 10 mins each

if any questions feel free to call me 0408 419 725

This was a hoot last year – all thanks to Connie and Caroline’s hard work.

Whatever you do don’t pass up the chance to own a wonderful souvenir of a special evening shot by a professional photographer (it shows) and for ten dollars it might as well be free – couple of cups of coffee.

Also I know for a fact that poor Caroline had to spend days burning all the copies – lets make it a week this year!

To reward you for your restraint I think you deserve a quick update.

Ticket sales this year are “solid” (Look that up if you like in the Organiser’s Guide to Publicity Allen & Allen 1989 ) .

As I write this we are approaching 1/2 way through the ticket sales period.
We have sold 70% of the seats we can comfortably sell for the formal, and 75% of the weekend tickets.

That’s my definition of “solid” !

Thank you to everyone who has supported the event by buying a ticket, and to the others….you have up to 50 days left to decide.

      Hi Amanda,
Is there going to be a wine tasting on Friday night? I went to the one last year and it was great fun and if it is on again this year I will be there.

I hear that the wine tasting was a great success last year – but sadly I gave my ticket away to someone. This year, as organiser, I’m not going to make the same mistake twice!

Yes, there will be a wine tasting, maybe two depending how many Weekend ADD-ON Tickets are sold.

And the good news – wine tasting will be included in the price of the weekend ticket this year. Though sadly I won’t be able to provide a place for everyone hopefully everyone who is interested will be able to go. A couple of weeks before the event I will email/post instructions on how to book a place.

The weekend program for TransFormal is coming together fast, and will be finalised after I have made a planning trip to Katoomba on Friday.

      program.jpg

If you were waiting for the details before purchasing your Weekend ADD_ON ticket then you need to act fast.
At the time of writing there were only 6 weekend add-on tickets left.

If you have purchased a TransFormal formal ticket but left booking your weekend ticket till later then grab one of the remaining few tickets.

After the last 6 tickets have been sold there will be no more weekend tickets available for 2014.

UPDATE: 9th April – Just 4 weekend tickets left. (Still plenty of tickets to Saturday night though)

    Guest Facilitator/Presenter for TransFormal 2014

I am pleased to announce that Surjay Kentlyn has accepted an invitation to be the guest facilitator/presenter at TransFormal 2014.

Surjay brings to our workshops an impressive background of academic publications and practical work with the Transgender community.

Surjay is currently working to help LGBTI people who are ageing sustain independent, active and healthy lives – a topic that I know is of concern to many attending TransFormal. I look forward to working with Surjay to provide an entertaining, informative, and thought provoking workshops and activities throughout the weekend

Don’t forget the weekend activities are only available to those attendees who have purchased an ADD-ON ticket.

Our guest facilitator/presenter is sponsored this year by a anonymous donor.

Put the T back in Katoomba
Here is our second update for those attending the TransFormal formal in two weeks time on the 17th.
That’s right, just two weeks to finish your plans for your weekend!

    Photos @ TransFormal
Everyone is of course welcome to take their own photos at TransFormal (provided that you respect our photography policy) . But last year we also had some very special photographs taken by Connie.
I’m pleased to announce that Connie enjoyed herself last year and has offered to come back and capture this years excitement and finery on pixels.

    Quote:
Absolutely the best quality photo’s I’ve seen at any event, ever. She took the background of a stunning building and made it work, rich colours, stunning depth of field, sharp focus without that blinding flash that makes us look like shadowy ghouls… best evah!!!! LK 2013

Connie is a professional photographer who will take lots of photos of you and your friends during the evening.
This way everyone has a permanent record of the event with lots of happy shots of themselves and friends new and old.

Don’t worry if you don’t want to be in the shot – Connie will ask for an OK! And red NO PHOTO stickers will be available as usual.

A disc containing photos of the whole evening will be mailed after the event to those who deposit $10 and their address in an envelope in a BOX which will be located on the Transformal Central wing (1st floor hotel) from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon .

    PLUS PLUS PLUS!!!!

This year Connie has also offered to take studio quality portraits of any guests who are interested using a backdrop and professional lighting. A few lucky guests will have the opportunity to receive 5 high quality pictures from a 10 minute session. Connie will charge just $30 for this service.

To reserve this unique opportunity and capture the moment in style go here:

    TransFormal Sunday
    Don’t rush home on Sunday!

There are lots of reasons for staying in Katoomba as long as your travel commitments allow on Sunday.

It starts with the traditional group photo on the steps of the Carrington at 10:15.

Then it is time to head off on your Quest for the “T: in Katoomba.

Form teams of 2 – 4 (with a car, pencil and umbrella) and start your quest from the Carrington Front Verandah at 10:30.
Each team will have a quest guide that will take them to 10 locations nearby in search of the answers – answers that we hope will start with “T”. This fun exploration of some of Katoombas most interesting sights will finish at 12:45 in time for lunch. For all the details go here: Back at the Carrington Hotel you will have worked up an appetite for lunch. This year we have two suggestions for Sunday lunch.
Option 1 Paragon Cafe 65 Katoomba St. Lunch at the Paragon is very much a part of TransFormal. This year the weekend schedule allows you to have a meal in this iconic restaurant on Sunday at 1pm.

Option 2 Katoomba Cafe 175 Katoomba Street. Looking for a more local / less tourist experience for lunch? This year we have been contacted by Geoff who runs the Katoomba St Cafe offering any TransFormal guests who wish to lunch at the cafe a warm welcome.

After lunch at 2pm a reminder that A Bras Kadabras will have private opening just for TransFormal guests on Sunday afternoon at 2pm. This local & web lingerie shop is just down Katoomba Street from the Paragon (and a bit up from the Katoomba Street Cafe). The delightful and accepting owners will offer private fitting and browsing of their extensive range. Just visit Gina in The Library on Saturday from 3:15 onwards and register your interest.

Finally, it would be understandable if you decide to just stay another night in Katoomba. If you do, then we will be having an informal dinner/supper on Sunday night in the Old Bank Hotel Braserrie next to the Carrington Hotel.

The Carrington Old Bank Braserrie (on the north driveway to the hotel) – Sunday 18th May 2014 Time: 7:30pm
Dinner or Supper in company upstairs at the Old Bank Brasserie.
We had a most enjoyable meal at The Old Bank last year and can totally recommend it.
RESERVATIONS ESSENTIAL Table bookings will open on Wednesday 7th May
All food and beverage to own expense. NO SPLIT BILLS. Tables of up to 8. Shared bill. BRING CASH not CREDIT CARDS

If you do have to check out of The Carrington at 10am and want to participate in the exciting Sunday program, then you can use the Traditional Bathrooms during the afternoon to get changed and/or freshen up for the trip home.

Reading the posts above there is not much that has not already been said.

Thanks must go to Amanda and Megan for thier tireless work in arranging all the details required to make the weekend happen seamlessly. I would be very interested to see the “Weather Request” form that Amanda submits each year.

Unfortunately due to personal health reasons, I had to bail at about 10PM but still had a wonderful time over the weekend. Apologies to those that I missed catching up with, I had looked forward to utilising that extra hour in the Bar.

Well done once again Amanda and team TF.

When are the tickets for TF 2015 on sale?

      Thanks Jannine.

It was a pleasure meeting you and so many other new happy faces at TransFormal.

It was also gratifying to see so many partners joining in this year.

The success of a weekend like TransFormal is ultimately only a reflection of the attitudes and enthusiasm of those taking part. And this year on those counts you all made the event. From my perspective, making it the best ever.

I hope the TransFormal experience energises your life in the months ahead and sustains you till we have an opportunity to meet again in Katoomba.

Many, many thanks to Amanda & her helpers who made this weekend another marvellous experience, this was my fifth & I’ll keep coming back, for those who haven’t been to Transformal, I’d suggest you put it on your must do list for next year

A big thanks to Amanda and the TF14 team. It was my first and from the moment I arrived, I felt welcome and at home. It was a lovely weekend and the weather most perfect – not sure how you did that as well!

It was great to catch up with ladies I’ve met before and make many new friends. Can’t wait until the next one!

      Thanks again,
      Sammie

Wow, what a weekend. Being my first time to Transformal I was a bit apprehensive at first as to how things would go for me but all my fears were soon put to rest when someone saw me sitting on my own and grabbed me and took me off to meet the others. That soon broke the ice and everything after that was priceless. I cant wait to get my copy of the photos so I can put some pressure on my partner to join me next year. The sessions were just what I was hoping for and the dinner was just the best.

Finally, thank you to all the participants for being so welcoming and fun over the weekend ad to Amanda and your crew a huge thank you for putting together a wonderful event.

Yes as another having their first time out in public, a huge thanks to everyone for being so friendly, welcoming and reassuring. I so wish I’d been able to get to more of the weekend but had a brilliant time at the dinner. The staff & the band were brilliant & amazingly helpful too. Thanks again & I do hope to meet a few more of you next year.

I ‘d like to add my thanks as a first timer too: to Amanda and Caroline for the organisation, to the hotel staff for being unfailingly polite and accepting and to the band for music that allowed me to still hold conversations, that was easy to listen to and that actually got me on a dance floor for the first time in decades. I loved every minute.

Just like to add my thanks to Amanda and Meagan for hosting such a wonderful event, very much appreciated.

It was so good to catch up with old friends and make new ones, the workshops were fun and informative, and Saturday night was brilliant.

I hope Amanda, Megan and all who helped to put Transformal 2014 together are very proud of their efforts and know that all their hard work is very much appreciated.

I don’t think the Carrington staff could possibly be any more helpful, accepting and respectful. They are wonderful.

The weather was absolutely perfect. The evenings were mild, the sunny days a joy.

Previous friendships were rekindled, new friendships were forged and our ever expanding network of gender diversity was taken to a new level.

All the activities were fun, informative and worthy of mention but Saturday night at the Formal was over and above all expectations. As last year the band was a perfect mix of great songs, lots of fun and we were still able to hold conversations at the tables, a tick in every box.

Not a black mark to be found.

      Thanks to all.

      Janny Wilson.

This was my first Transformal and the whole event was a delight. I had a thoroughly good time and so did my partner. We are already planning to come to next year’s Transformal as a major event in our calendar. Again many thanks to Amanda and her helpers for a job well done.

I spent the hour each side of midnight last night, kept awake by night roadworks outside my hotel bedroom, going through the CD. What an excellent set of pictures proving conclusively what a lot of people had a fun time at Transformal. Thank you Caroline for organising the CD and delivering my copy personally at the Glebe Café night.

This was my first transformal and I hope it wont be my last. I had a great time meeting other girls from all over australia and now have a few more on my facebook to see how there life is going. I stayed off site which had its good and bad points however apart from falling down some stairs, no I wasn’t drunk, I had a great time

If you head over to the event website (http://www.trannytix.com/transformal) there is a new menu called Photos. I’ll be posting here the selection of pictures that are assessed as suitable for general distribution. And if you log in (with the login you used to purchase your ticket) there will see an album of “guest-only” pictures. I will leave the guest album on-line for about a month and then remove it as a security precaution. So if there is a picture you want download it!

If you have pictures on your camera that include another guest I ask you to do the right thing and share them.
Posting pictures to your Facebook or Flickr album is NOT the same thing as sharing it!

To upload a picture to the “guest-only” album email it as an attachment to

    116425376635881764716.transformal@picasaweb.com

and make the subject of the email

    Transformal 2014

Your photo should appear automatically in the guest album in about 5 minutes if you reload the webpage.

Oh – and thank you to the few who have shared already.

Looking forward to getting my copy of both the Professional Photo Shoot and the disc from the Ball. I forgot to re-powder my face after dancing so much so in my own photos my face is very shiny LoL, Any one out there know how to take the shine off the face in a photo without darkening the whole picture ?

        Cheers….Karly

In RAW no problems ……. this is why I like RAW might be doable in Adobe Photoshop anyhow……… I’ll look into it and get back later :-)
