Not sure what the programme is called but it’s on ABC radio every Sunday night at 10pm. It usually has a religious theme but this week (13th March) they are advising that they will be discussing transgender in today’s community. Could be worth a listen.

I just heard about this upcoming show.

Below is the link to the ABC Sunday Night show page, but looks like they don’t have any info on the upcoming show. It’s normally podcast to download if you can’t listen on the night.

    I’ll be tuning in.

Thanks for starting this post Felicity

Some people have posted about John Cleary’s program, “Transgender issues and the churches” which aired last Sunday, 13th March.

ABC has now updated the web page for last Sunday night’s program. The web page includes a link to listen to the program, or to download the MP3. You may need to right-click on the MP3 link and select “Save target as …” or “Save link as” to download it.

    Quote:
This past week on the religious calendar was marked by Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Christian season of Lent, a period of reflection, meditation and for some fasting, leading up to Easter. The three days before Lent are known as Mardi Gras famously celebrated in New Orleans, and in Rio as Carnivale.
Here in Australia, Mardi Gras, has been captured, in a somewhat ironic vein, by the Gay and Lesbian community, as a celebration of Gay rights. It has, over the last quarter century acted as a focal point for an issue that continues to provoke community discussion, most recently over Gay marriage.
We turn our attention to an issue that brings into sharp focus the difficulties of drawing prescriptive boundaries on human behaviours – trans Gender. That is, those who are born with a different sexual identity to their biological identity, and even those who are born with both male and female characteristics. Churches generally have tried to draw lines in the sand over issues like homosexual behaviour. What kind of theology and pastoral understanding are presented by those whose gender is uncertain? We discuss gender dysphoria, or gender identity disorder, and the range of issues , from the apparent fantasy world of cross dressing to the profound commitment of gender reassignment and a sex change operation. We ask, how do those who wish to draw moral precepts from gender distinctives, fare in such murky waters?
