Guest24/09/2007 at 10:32 amUnless I missed it, nobody has mentioned the Aussie movie starring John Jarrat, “All Men Are Liars”. No, John Jarret isn’t in drag and the movie itself is a bit of a spin on “Some Like It Hot” whereby a young guy joins an all girl country and western band. It got panned by the critics but I found it quite entertaining.

The highlight for me, however, was after the show in the foyer. This young kid says to his mother. “Why is that man wearing a dress?”. The mother says, “Oh that was John Travolta”. But the kid points at me and says “No, Mum. That man over there!”
I smiled and retired to the bar. XXXX Jan

My goodness, that was a highlight? You mustn’t have been impressed by the movie then. Aren’t kids the worst thing?
I saw that movie ‘All Men are Liars’ and am glad you enjoyed it Terri, I’m afraid I didn’t and to be honest it was one of the few movies I got up and walked out half way through..

you gotta say, glen or glenda is just a classic.
lots of other excerpts from g or g on youtube too. and omg, a band named glen or glenda. so does this mean there is more than one transgender band in the world? wow … maybe there should be a transgender woodstock …
well if there is to be one, let it be in australia!
oops … getting off topic … sorry …

Guest27/09/2007 at 3:10 amI believe the very first movie to cover the transexual subject was the “Christene Jorgan Story” starring Vanessa Redgrave. Story of the first known male to female trip in the world. It was as ground breaking as replacing a heart for it’s day and now both are done all over. Not sure the date of the movie but it was before videos I think. I remember seeing it in my late teens and thinking I wish I could do that. Back in those days it was considered so racy and shun by the public saying “how could he do that” but it gave hope to people like us that anything is possible

Guest31/08/2009 at 1:32 pmGot to see a sneak preview screening of Richard Franklin’s new film Stone Brothers last week. It comes out on Sept 22 & is being marketed somewhat as Indigenous Australia’s answer to Cheech & Chong!
Like so many Austrlian films it’s a road trip (set in WA). David Page (I think Bangara Theatre) plays a secondary charcater, Uncle Reggie, who turns out to be Reggina who dreams of appearing on Koori Idol show.
Anyway, the message presented TG wise is one of positive acceptance. Laughed a lot during the movie. There’s a great ‘sorry’ scene, parody of that ficticious book Mutant Message Down Under & 187 joints. Unfortunately the ending’s slightly weak. Well worth seeing though.

Guest06/04/2011 at 8:55 pmThe Crying Game is the most beautiful love story. It’s a lot yukky too, being about IRA terrorism, but confronting when the male lead initially rejects the girl & denies his feelings. but it’s still a beautiful love story, and love conquers in the end. And if it was a straight girl, it would still be a beautiful love story

Guest07/04/2011 at 1:10 amI have always enjoyed this film. The Crying Game is set in a very violent time and transgender people in the community were not accepted any where near as they are now. A dangerous time to be transgender with people going missing due to the conflict between the IRA and British forces. It would take far more courage to accept and be in a relationship with a transgender person in that period of history than now. Which makes the love they have and accept for each other so much more heart warming.
