This morning, Saturday, while reading ‘The Age’ here in Melbourne I found an article about discrimination in the workplace based on sexual and gender preferences. It discussed how gay and lesbian and the transgendered were often reluctant to ‘come out’ in case this jeopardised their promotion opportunities, apart from getting harassed anyway.
I glanced at the article illustration, two figures of the sort on top of a wedding cake. Both wore long white dresses but one head was with short hair and on closer inspection appeared to be male and if you look closer there is a definite line, (make up line?) at the neck suggesting that either Photo shop was used or a head transplant took place. Of course it could be to illustrate a lesbian union but I like to suspect a photographer could be a ‘tranny’ fan and took the opportunity to indulge in one of our favourite loves, wearing a wedding dress. Or maybe I am reading too much into this? **LOL**
I have put the photos of the article and a close up of the neck in my photo album, no 3, if anyone is interested.
    Cheers,

    Helen

You’re welcome. To be honest I didn’t think it was that great an article, lacking in depth, it did make unbiased reference to us,

    Hi Chels
Sorry to hear that, can I ask, were you working for a small business? Did you have a HR department at this old job?

chelsea – without knowing the facts in more detail, it seems like a good case of unjustified dismissal on the grounds of discrimination. was there a written employee code of conduct to the effect that you must have short hair (i seriously doubt it)? shade of black pants is probably not specified in the conditions of employment either (except maybe if you were in the funeral directors’ profession). go see a lawyer (or community law centre). i’m pretty sure there is a case here.

bob marley: get up! stand up! don’t give up the fight.

This discussion has gone somewhat off the original topic.
If you want me to split it send me an email – otherwise please remember the topic is in “fun stuff” and is about a specific article in the Age/SMH.

Thanks Amanda, I was getting confused, I thought I had missed something, then again, I frequently do!
