Waxing – regrowth period – is it constant?
I recently had my first go at getting my arms waxed (first waxing ever) and after a week and a half or so, I had noticeable regrowth on my arms. So I was wondering if the first time you get it done and then the regrowth period, does that stay fairly constant or is it possible that it wil change later or its just a lottery?

Everybody is different in this regard Melissa. Some have very slow regrowth, some do not, male and female alike. Personally, I don’t get waxed, except for my face but I do epilate however. The epilator does pull hair out by the roots and what happens for me is that my legs grow very slowly compared to the rest of my body [wish that happened with my face!]. In time, if you stay consistent with it, you will see a reduction but we are talking months here, not weeks. The best advice though is to talk to a good beautician as they do it for a living and have a lot more experience.

The first few times, you tend to get quite a few hairs that will snap off level with the skin and hence you’ll see regrowth in a time comparable to shaving. Over multiple waxings, the hairs become less brittle and the results improve. The hairs also regrow with a smaller diameter and less pigmentation (paler) in the tip after waxing (or epilation), and gradually thicken and darken to normal if not waxed again.
Some people find that frequent waxing will result in the regrowth getting finer and paler each time until it’s virtually invisible right up to when it’s long enough to wax again.
The quality of the waxing job also affects the rate of snapped off and completely missed hairs.
The time between waxings being needed will depend on how fast your hair grows and how good the last waxing was.

I’ve recently started shaving my arms and I’m quite surprised how quickly it comes back. just a few days.. probably twice as fast as waxing!! I guess without kicking it up a notch then it’s the only option!!! ?
Full body shaving has now become a twice a week practice!!

I started by shaving my legs, felt great until the second day so it was either shave at least every second day or try waxing. While waxing isn’t perfect it certainly has changed the nature of my regrowth to much lighter and softer. And given the rate at which I was going through razors it isn’t much more expensive than shaving. So I get my legs waxed about every 4 to 5 weeks and my arms every second visit (the arm hairs seem to get ripped out more efficiently than the leg hairs) and I tend to shave my chest but I did get it waxed just last week. I shave downstairs too but I haven’t been for a Brazilian yet. This is really a case of trying everything and finding what works for you I think. Of course I pray every night that it will just disappear!

Hi Felicity and Gurls, and happy New Year. great thread. Felicity, Olivia up here in Qld put me onto Doug and he does waxing from home. I get the all over treatment though my partner won’t let me get the chest done for to long but when I do I love it. It feels like you are wet all the time ie just got out of the shower. Also to get the bits done is so much better than shaving I’m a convert. My advise is if you can get someone to do it go for it. Talk soon

People are so different with this and think whilst the story is that for many women constant waxing eventually makes it easier and the hair less thick, for many this is a myth. It is even more so for many not born women.
Regrowth is a personal issue and you may find 10 people will tell you 10 stories but that is because they have different growth levels.
I have a friend who uses VEET and gets a smooth finish for a week, that is not the case for me ever.
Even treatments like IPL work fantastically for some and not for others. I’ve been less that pleased with the results, my friend swears by it.
Good luck through, the nice thing is, the 2nd time you know how it felt the first time and you get to look forward to it so much more lol

Umm… LASER doesn’t get rid of blonde hair.
Thick dark hair that LASER does work on, is called “Terminal Hair”. The fine soft hair is called “Vellus Hair”, when a vellus hair follicle changes to producing terminal hair it’s a one way change, it doesn’t go back to producing vellus hair. Getting rid of the hair involves destroying the follicle, with LASER, electrolysis, IPL etc. Following the destruction of the follicle it doesn’t start magically producing fine blonde hair. Marc should have told you that.

Hello Peta, is yours a boys or girls epilator and do you think it matters? I want to buy a ladies’ of course but I want a good job.

I don’t think there is a boy epilator as such… I use an Emjoi basic model and use it weekly. It does a good job on the legs and arms and a resonable job on my chest and stomach.
It took a few goes to get used to the “sting”, on the chest it was like working a piece of wood on a lathe – thump thump thump – ouch!! ouch!!ouch!!!!
I’m looking to upgrade it to one with two sets of rotors.
Does anyone else use an epilator? and what model is it?

You asked me about the epilator that I use Felicity? I quite simply went to the shop and got a “middle of the road” one and it performs quite well. There was no comments to me in the shop re. male or female items, it is only about what they can do and how much at one time etc. The only thing that might make it look like a ladies one is colour, that would be the closest that you will get to a “female” one.

Hi all
I use a Braun Silk-epil EverSoft. It cost me just under $100 and it is now on its 3rd year. I have not had any problems with it.
I dont know if you are ment to replace them after a period or you use them til they die. Does anyone know if the head wares out or anything?
