  • We have the builders in..what do you want to change?

The website was long overdue for a significant upgrade in the engine room. The version of Joomla that it is built on is long obsolete. But I have been putting off doing the upgrade as it has to be done bit by bit rebuilding the site from scratch.

Having the builders in working on the foundations is a great excuse to change all the soft furnishings. So I’m rebuilding the site for a better user experience – and throwing in a new look as that comes free.

I’ll be rolling out the new site soon – and sooner if it carries on raining in Sydney!

So, if there is any change, big or small, that would improve TgR for you – then let me know this week and I’ll see if it can be included in the upgrade

Would be great if the site held my login cookie for longer.
Would make it faster to get to certain forum threads when I try and get there from the daily emails.

    Thanks for the feedback Jordan.

The “Remember me” cookie is held (by default) for 60 days.
There isn’t any easy way to modify this – but I’ve edited the core to make it 90 days – this may however get lost the next time the core is upgraded.

If your login is not “sticking” at present for 2 months the problem may be in your browser clearing the cookies..or switching browsers…so the change will probably have no effect for you.

I like the new look, could be imagining things but it seems to respond a bit quicker than before.

Love the new look website. Looks great on my phone and works well too- with its own quirks. It’s a pity to lose live massaging but that’s ok- the quick message works fine. The default option to trash original message when replying does seem a bit odd as I usually like to keep my messages from people. Also the postcode/map search seems to have gone but again that’s not a buggies. Otherwise in general the site looks more schmick and clean and well organised. Love the cover image as well. All feels very wholesome. Thanks Adrian!

Will have to put massages on the wish list :) But till then there is a new chat/messaging system. Look down at the bottom right on a PC browser for the Live Chat slide-up menu. On a mobile phone it appears as a black & white speech bubble icon.
If you click on the name of someone who is logged in and shown on the live chat list then a private 1:1 IM window opens. If you click on Public Chatroom then a room opens up for group chat.

It got lost in all the reconfiguring for the new site… I’ve put it back on the user lists now. But don’t miss the new member map on the members page. It is a great improvement on the last one – even if some of the members with 234X type postcodes plot in bizarre places…I may have to change the X to 0!

    Hi Adrian,

    “TGR, we have a problem”…

I have two laptops, one is on windows 10 and (eventually!!!) ran it OK. I have another one, (which when I’m in Caty mode at night is the one I use.) runs windows 8.

On both the latter and a public computer I used in Hobart yesterday, it comes up as “error 404” and wont run the TGR site.

If I have to take the old laptop up to 10 I will, but I’m VERY reluctant to do so.

Anyone else in the same situation???

    Regards

    Caty

When it says error 404…what EXACTLY does the browser URL say at the top of the window?
If it doesn’t say http://forum.tgr.net.au/cms/ then try actually going in the front door … to http://forum.tgr.net.au/cms/

Well, for various reasons I haven’t had time to pay an actual visit to TGR, this morning I did and for what it’s worth I love the new opening page. Very simple but striking in style. I haven’t had a proper look-see, for example, where are the toilets and the bar?

Love the new look website and it’s functionality; and the heading typeface is very elegant in an Art Deco sort of way. Appreciate the hard work it must all take.
