  • What do you look for at a wig shop?!

Posted by Anonymous on 26/05/2009 at 10:40 pm

    Hi
Recently I holidayed in Sydney and, following a recommendation, called in to a wig shop for help. I had expected that there might be some professional wisdom offered as to what style best suited my face shape, what colour might work best etc. Bear in mind this was a first, I have up to now made my purchases online. Going into the shop was a major step, made somewhat easier as I knew I was a long way from anyone I knew.
The shop owner, while she did make me feel quite at ease, merely asked which wigs I wanted to try, and then sought my opinion on what I preferred. I did buy one, which I like, but I had looked for more help and direction to educate my taste and decision making.
Was I wrong in my thoughts, is this what I should expect, or was this perhaps just a bad day for this shop?

    Cheers
Jan Vestia – from New Zealand

    Jan,

If you are evr in Melbourne there is a large wig shop in Swanston St (I think). Anyway, it is near Myer and is on the first floor above shops on the street; their sign can be seen quite clearly from Bourke St mall. The lady there is very helpful and chooses wigs to suit your face (and features). They have huge range and she doesn’t mind spending time with you. Maybe one of the Melbourne girls can help with the name of the firm?

    Hi JanV

When shopping some people do not like sales people getting to close it may have just been trying to keep some distance, some times too much information can make your head spin.

I been to one in Perth and I found myself finding my own style and choice.

Anyways good luck and hope you found the wig that is you. 😉

    Hi
For melbourne girls. There is a great shop in chappel st.
Went there in drab mode. I told the girl assisting me “chatting with friends at a pub and decided my hair was wrong” No lie…
Showed her similar length and colors on some wigs and said I need a change. She sat me down and came back with 4 different styles/colors. She found my ‘now’ hair style No fuss or bother and all help and care.
    Be yourself.. it works

    It is NOT about wigs.
The post is about what we look for in a Wig Shop.

Wig shopping is a bit of hit and miss affair in my view, I been into wig shops Perth looked and worn and it is always down to luck and time.
Yes I brought some wigs off the internet and again fun had again.
I hate to say it I have 8 wigs in total and yes have the hair spray and the begs to keep them all in good order. Yes even have the stocking to cover my hair, not thats been an issue as of late with me cutting it down to number 2 because I can not stand my own hair.

Look I hope you find that one wig and place and person who will at the end of it all make you feel human and a woman.

    i have 8 wigs too
    bought 6 on net,
only liked 3 of them, when i put them on
the 2 i bought in wig shop better
my short one, highlites my faces fem features (if i have any lol)
the longer one (shoulder length), frames my face.
the 2 i bought in wig shops, best.
fun sitting in a shop full of customers, trying on wigs, in a skirt
it is hit and miss, finding the right look

    Hi again
    For MELB. girls
We had a new girl at SHV meeting last weekend,
Between 2 of us chatting to her about wigs we came up with the following
We both said got to go to Celib Wigs in Sth Yarra
The best way to get a new hair style is go in full gurl mode. That way you are made up so they can match hair style to you. Always listen to their advice on washing, conditioning and after care. They are in the business, so they do know.
They are very helpful and trained hairdressers
And like I said above… BE YOURSELF they will help you.
