I went to a professional (theatrical – TV) makeup artist.

My feeling is that this is a good choice and people in this profession are experienced in all types of make up, making anyone looks like anyone. Whereas stores selling makeup are not so experienced.

A make up artist in Brisbane will give a makeup lesson and explain and give an educational experience on how to use them. Perhaps if you are not in Brisbane search out someone similar in your home town.

He also has a DVD video for sale which may be of interest.

“still a long long way from getting it right but I am slowly learning. Sometimes I go into profiles to view albums and seee if there are close ups that I can try and immitate some times it looks so easy but wow its not as I have glasses it makes it so hard to see when I want to apply but I will never stop trying”

Hi Abby.. it can be difficult if you’re still not confident to go out dressed, sitting in front of the mirror and practise is the best advice, like most girls you will find your own style…

regarding the glass I have the same issue, some years ago my Mum had pair of makeup glass.. each side was able to be flipped up, I have asked in several stores but get the same answer “never heard of them”!! I will continue to ask and one day they’ll be found and I will post here..sorry to say my girl the older we’re getting more those glasses will be needed !!!!

Trial and error mostly. Try the internet there are some reasonable posts, whether they’re any good is anyone’s guess. I learned the basics there, but it’s still trial and error. I often feel that I put on too much and feel like I’m presenting as a pantomine dame.
    Back to the drawing board.

My girlfriend did my first few and made it clear that I would learn to do it myself. This took a lot of prcatice and I am still not as good as her. One thing I that helped was after going out for a night, when you get back home try a new idea and take a picture of it. After all you are made up and this is the best time to try something new. If it doesn’t work well you are going to bed after it anyway and you have learnt something.

After a couple of years I did see Rawdon (professional makeup artist that Bambi recommended) and I learnt a great deal as he took it to the next level.

I am still looking for new ideas – I don’t think it ever stops.

I first learnt my makeup skills from a beautician. One thing I remember her telling me was too little makeup is beter than too much. She used to do my makeup on some of my days out as Paula.

I have also obtained some books and video clips about putting on makeup.

I agree putting on makeup is an art that needs lots of practice and is a continual learning curve.

A lot of practice and gets as much feedback from GG and CD as possible.

Most important: try to look like you have no make up on (that is just enough to get the look you want)

There should be no borders between blush area and the rest of cheeks. it should blend smoothly.

Also try the contouring technique of dark on chin and areas to hide but blending as smooth as you can.

    Gently does it.

But watched the wife and spent lot of time on youtube and practicing in front of my mirror. Been dressing since 10 but only started makeup 18months ago.
