Amanda, thanks for the URL for Savers.

Jessica, going by what I saw at my local Target back in the new year, the only stockings Target now sell are no longer the proper old-fashioned ones. They are the modern sticky silicone topped stay-up designs.

    Hi everyone,

I recently bought some “good old fashioned stockings” at a Myer store in Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs. So they should be available at most of the other stores.

Also whilst I did not purchase any at David Jones in Melbourne’s CBD. they also had a reasonable range. I’ll save any extras I need for my next trip to their store in Melbourne’s east at The Glen Shopping Centre.

To add to the list of on line availability, try Zodee out of Sydney.

    All the best

I have seen the term ‘hold ups’ and think they refer to the old style stockings. I do know Myer and DJs sell them and I must admit that I went to Adelaide and left my glasses at home…. So I just read the packets and decided I wouldn’t take the risk etc.

Helen, ‘hold ups’ stockings are the same as ‘stay ups’ stockings. The tops of these stockings are lined with a band of sticky stretchy silicone.
Proper old-fashioned stockings don’t have this. They need suspenders. Unfortunately it is now very difficult to find stockings stockists who DON’T solely carry ‘stay ups’.
The eTailers I listed and linked to in my earlier post in this thread all do carry current versions of proper old-fashioned stockings.

    Hi ladies,

I thought I might share with you my own method of getting the stockings I prefer – via the internet, would you believe!

for the past 5 or 6 years I’ve used ‘Stockings HQ’, a specialist stocking and tights supplier, at http://www.stockingshq.com/stockings – a UK site which sell all sorts at prices ranging from £!.50 (about $A2) up to £60 {about $A100} – for those wanting to really impress potential viewers….

I pay by credit card and have found them to be really reliable.

As regards postage, currently no matter how much you order postage to Australia is £5.95 OR £9.95 if you choose international postage. Normal airmail could take up to 3 weeks to arrive International postage could be 7-10 days.

I usually order 5 identical pairs at once – so giving 9 replacements for one that is laddered – so I haven’t actually had the need to order any for well over 6 months – ‘cos Im a good girl…..

    Thanks for the link Coral.
StockingsHQ has a better range of old fashioned stockings than any of the Australian eTailers.
Even better is that they also have a good range of suspender belts for the stockings. That is something sorely lacking in ranges offered by the Australian etailers.

I have purchased several pairs of stockings for garters without the silicon hold up or stay up bands from target.
