Where to start?
Posted by Anonymous on 21/05/2012 at 4:58 amI’m feeling more and more determined to exit the closet and transition to being a full time female. But where do I start… Should I speak to a doctor? if so, what sort of doctor? Should I start with a support group? if so what type. which one? what am I going to do about my wife and family, do I tell her/them? How will I tell my wife.family and stay alive? should I find another way to leave so I don’t have to tell her/them? so many questions, but where to start?

Guest21/05/2012 at 8:26 amKathy, are you actually wanting advice or is your post a rhetorical example of your inner dilemma?
If you are after an opinion , mine is that the first step is to find the courage to tell your loved ones but only once you have determined to move forward in your life by dealing with any consequences that that action may throw up. How could you live life as a woman without their knowing?
This of course takes a lot of courage and the determination to be yourself rather than someone that others approve of. If you believe that the fallout would be too dire then you should stay in hiding IMO , until you really know what you must do.

Guest29/05/2012 at 4:04 amHi,
I have been a closet crossdresser since I was about 12, I have always had the desire to be a girl, but over the years I have tried to hide my desire and thought there was something wrong with me. Now I realise that being a girl is what I may have really meant to have been. I want to investigate further if this is right for me.So where do I go now, do I speak to my GP? or should I find a Transgender friendly GP first? if so, where would I find a good one in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne?
Thanks for any advice,
KathyModerator

Guest07/07/2012 at 12:00 amHi everyone,
I am after some similar information (thanks for starting thread Kathy)..
My personal goal, for myself though is planning to start HRT early 2013.
So I’m after info on some TS friendly GP’s to be able to attend to in the Brisbane/Sunshine Coast area (if due to ‘legal’ reasons names/clinics cannot be replied on here could I please be emailed) and also TS friendly clinic/psychiatrist to attend to gain HRT.
I have finally faced my biggest fear and have come out to some of my closest friends/family that I identify myself as a Trans Woman and as thus plan to start transitioning. (I plan on going stealth on HRT as I don’t plan to stay with my current employer/field of work – more so due to a recent workplace accident I was involved in and subsequent x-rays etc the doctor advised me to find a less physical job if I plan on being able to walk later in life).
Also a few personal goals I have set myself for the remainder of the year is to join a gym and try lose some weight (boy belly), start on laser hair removal (firstly aimed at the beard). Giving up smoking and cutting out alcohol consumption – these are only increasing my caffeine consumption though, lol and if time/finances permit begin on voice therapy.
Those who have/are transitioning if you’s have any ‘do’ or ‘don’t ‘s would be awesome too
I hope to hear back from someone to help me get this journey going in the right direction.
Thankyou,
Jo xx
