Guest13/03/2006 at 9:07 amSaw it, I thought it was very thought provoking. The young guys in the youth centre seemed very mature and informed in their responses. Not bad at all.

Well, my thoughts were that it was pretty average.
Nothing startling new and I thought the presenter was trying to steer the whole thing in his/her direction.
I would have liked more depth in some areas, particularly So’s & general public overview (what they understood and what their position was).
But I suppose, at least it got an airing and it wasn’t trashy.
Cheers,
Wendy

Guest13/03/2006 at 9:59 pmI was also a bit disappointed over the show. It started quite well as we saw a gaggle of our sisters away at a seaside retreat for the weekend – I would have liked to have heard more from them rather than the somewhat lengthy period spent at the motorcycle racetrack as the presenter asked questions (which could have only illicited the response he wanted) which bore out his assertion that wearing racing leathers was a parallel to we ladies wearing our frocks. The boys at the Polytechnic were intelligent and interesting to hear but didn’t add anything really either.
The ‘history of transvestism’ was good only in that we got to see some lovely victorian outfits but I was a bit lost when the presenter spent some time with a bunch of androgynous Goths putting forth the theory that transvestism may be finished if male and female clothing styles get more and more similar as they are with these bejewelled wierdos. Forgive me for thinking that if Gothic styles are taking over popular fashion that everyone might as well give up anyway..and weren’t Marlene Dietrich, Tallulah Bankhead and Garbo dressing in mens clothing 60 -70 years ago without any major threat to mainstream clothing trends?
Some more parallels were then drawn with transvestites and victorian ‘dandys’ before we finally got back to seeing the Real Deal as a bunch of girls had lunch together after visiting a transformation service. This excerpt did more for promoting the benifits of a professional makeover than actually giving an insight into our lifestyle.
The highlights for me were:
* The presenter’s appalling hairstyle.
* The presenter having a voice-over swipe at a highly intelligent TS who clearly had the better of her in an interview.
* The presenter’s skateboard riding skills.(good style but I was lost with the relevance of it)The question of Why Men Wear Frocks was never really delved in to. If we got a couple of cameras and a skateboard we could do considerably better ourselves…..or we will win $50,000 on Australia’s Funniest Home Videos.
My rating: 4/10

Emma,
Your never one for a few words but agree wholeheartedly.
I think we could produce a better version here – maybe we should approach SBS (hehe). We could have a few stars in the making.
Overall, did not learn to much from it and presenters hairstyle was a good advertisement for Wigs or a visit to a hair stylist.
At least, it was a start.
Cheers.

Guest14/03/2006 at 3:46 amChannel 7 might be a better bet sis….have you seen All Saints?? They’ll broadcast any old rubbish.
Reality decrees that the Sex Broadcasting Service would, I agree, be the best bet though. As long as we get a few boobs in there we’ll get a series out of them.
A ‘Light hearted’ look at transgenderism would be the way to go. After all it is a bit funny and you could get your message across much better.Ok. Who’s in then?

Guest14/03/2006 at 12:05 pmHi All
Yes I taped it . Why you may well ask , LOL Pending on your perspective and the individuals situation as to what each of us does or does not get out of it .I have a tendancy to be a bit of a hoarder LOL .. and take the view that it may just have some uses , regardless of the presenter her hair or what ever , By the way I also race GP bikes in my former life.
Anyway , to the point , I saw it as and educational tool for the uninitiated , IE my wife who is generally supportive , but was of the belief that I was about the only one in the world who loved to dress LOL …. LOL LOL PMSL !!!
It served to open her eyes that dressing and transgenderism is really quite common particularly from both the history and relatively wide spread SUB- Cultures ! Thus I personally have a use for it . in changing her perspective that it is NOT such a rare practice . therefore increasing her acceptance . hopfully leading to the both of us becoming active or at least the existance of support groups . IE GOING OUT DRESSED , Now that would be neat for me as I do not get the opportunity .
So for me it has a use , even if it was not the greatest show on earth. BUT !!! I found a use for it in both my wifes and my journey together in the tranny world. even if it is only to the local support group ( Chameleons ) in perth some 300 klms away , and interact with others and their spouses.Just the first step in hopfully many more.
Cheers to all

Guest16/03/2006 at 8:36 pmI taped it and watched it with my partner yesterday. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a well crafted documentary and I found it thought provoking. It positions transvestism in the community where it belongs.
There were lots of clever sequences such as the provocative walk through the markets – carefully catching the background comments as she sauntered past the stalls inn that crazy colourful outfit. It reminded me of a group stroll Seahorse members did at Melbournes Victoria markets a few years ago,
The skateboarding sequences in the china shop I saw as symbolic of our travels through life. And the crash right at the end was a laugh.Lynne
