A fascinating topic. Fundamentally there is virtually certain to be a biological basis. Biological sex is of course a question of which sperm carrying an X or Y chromosome gets there first. Gender is more subtle and depends on the timing and strength of the hormone balance in the womb. Get this wrong and you have a biological male with a tendency, strong or weak, towards female gender inclination. Social conditioning encourages to one to act out the male role until something triggers an awareness of femininity. In my case I had two female cousins about my own age who had fun dressing me in their clothes and the rest is history.

Yes, Jenny, from anything I, as a lay person, know about personal traits, I would guess there is a mixture of genetic and environmental influences. I very quickly became a crossdresser in early puberty and if I am honest, I think it was a combination of being very shy with girls and at the same time having a very high libido. I also had four sisters! At the same time I was definitely NOT turned on at all by homosexuality, and I distinctly remember that my aim was to create my perfect woman in the mirror. I still don’t find gay sex a turn on, but as I reached my later teens I discovered porn and in particular fetishistic girls equipped like boys and was simultaneously turned off and fascinated. And then stimulated. I also enjoyed the femininity of the clothes and when I am Tina now, I feel very feminine and liberated from masculinity. I really do put a lot of it down to the openness of my mind and breadth of imagination, and hence I am very liberal sexually and very tolerant of others. Much of it I put down to a very dogmatic and religious upbringing which I rejected very strongly in my teens with a rebellious streak. For me it is very hard to separate what is genetic from what was a reaction to my environment growing up. I guess having a fertile and adventurous brain is a genetic thing too…. someone else with my upbringing might have conformed instead of rebelling. So why do I do it? It’s incredibly liberating and transports me completely into a different and attractive world of femininity. In some circumstances it also is very erotic, although as time has gone on this has become less central. Some discover a liking for crossdessing much later in life, too. I am sure there are men who have never tried it who would enjoy it if they did – but it takes a lot to become open to it, and that is dependent on circumstances.

Yep! Many women like those feelings of constriction too…. and I admit it, so do I!
