  • Suggestion – A local Casa Susana to escape to?

Posted by Anonymous on 04/12/2007 at 1:05 pm

In the last few weeks a couple of things have happened to me to make me think that getting out of Brisbane may be a good idea. With that in mind I’ve been searching Real estate sites for acreage in the country. The more I’ve thought about it the more it seems to make more sense. Then I was reminded of Casa Susana

Now the question that I have to ask is very simple.

Do the members of this forum think that a local version of Casa Susana would work :?:

For those who haven’t heard of it, this is a link to an article on it:

Hi Malla, for a number of years I have had a dream of starting just such a place in the mountains of northern NSW of southern QLD, a refuge where people like me could go to be their feminine selves openly and without fear; perhaps also a place where we could find out a bit more about why we are who we are and learn to accept ourselves as we are.

It is still a dream at this stage (lack of funds), but dreams can sometimes come true. When I read the article on Casa Sussana my heart leapt, what a wonderful place it must have been!

There are many of us who are not able or willing to be public about their dressing and a place like Casa Sussana would be wonderful for those want to come out of the closet for just a little while in a safe, non threatening environment.

Thank you for showing me the article and I wish you every success if you ever decide to make “Casa Malla” a reality. If I can help in any way, I would be happy to as it seems we share a similar dream.

I send you much love and wish you peace, joy and fulfillment in your life.

What a brilliant idea, it could be a winner, a hide away to be utilised by many of us. What a dream, to be able to get away and be femme for a weekend or even a week? I imagine there would be many who would jump at the chance.
Reality would be the problem of costs, continuous maintenance or upkeep. Would the premises be used for other groups? This would help with costs.
An alternative would be someone owning such a property and opening it for this use, any volunteers?

I think that it could well be a winner I was thinking about maybe 4 cabins to start on a self cater basis, plus a place for myself. I really don’t want to run this as a business but rather as a retreat. With donations being the income to cover expenses.

I would also try to make it as eco friendly as possible. Solar power, composting toilets, recycling grey water, that sort of thing. I would also try to use all recycled materials in the construction.

As I’m also a long time re-enactor. I was also thinking of opening it up to some of the Living History groups as well.

With what I’m thinking of I may be able to do it for maybe $200,000, or there abouts. All I need to do now is raise the capital. Being a lowly paid bus driver that may prove the major hurdle

    Hi Malla

Great idea, you would have my support, I dont know how to help, just let me know.

A place to eacape and have others that think and live the same. May be a pace for some people to live full time.

It’s all great and nice for people to say “I’m there” and “I’m behind it” but the reality is, such an endevour needs money.

Instead of saying “I’m there” try saying “Where do I send $50 a week”?

Or if really serious, get together have a formal meeting, with 10 or more people, each arrange to chip in the $40 a week or so necessary to raise the $400 a week rental on a property, or if REALLY serious chip in a few thousand each and back a mortgage under an Association, nd get it started.

Posting in internet boards “Yeah great idea, tell me where” does nothing progressive. I’ve seem great ideas over 15 years end in more more than archived threads because no one was really serious about coping the costs.

    Malla,

What a great idea, if you get it going I’d certainly help out as well as use it for those times when a weekend en-femme with the girls is needed.

    Good on you sis!

    Hi Girls,

In regard to the local Casa Susanna, it would be nice to buy a place, however I believe this would have to be done by an individual who perhaps uses there home. I can’t see any government agency extending money or govt loan for this puspose – it simply would not be palatable for any party charity to group to support us.

Realistically if someone could head this idea up and rent an acreage somewhere we could then collect some furniture etc and donate the rent money up front to pay the landlord. i would say this is probably how Casa Susanna came into existence.

I would certainly donate a week’s rent say $350.00 if we could organise a place in Brisbane.

    Whad’ya rekon girls?

The Gender Centre in Sydney is funded, and through that funding it also has a House for Accommodation for needy girls.

Unfortunately, to my wife’s dismay as we’re houseless presently, the accommodation is for individual girls, not families :) So we continue to live on the side of the road :)

this isn’t exactly the same, but for those looking for a bed and breakfast/weekend away, you might want to check this out… the people are really supportive as well. they also do massages and make overs

Sounds like a great idea. Though I think such a project may need a slightly different formula than Casa Susanna if it is to be successful in our less repressive culture.

If anyone is interested in a smaller scale alternative, could I suggest this?
I am currently looking for a place to rent in Brisbane for the purposes of business, running workshops, drop in centre, accommodation, social events, etc. All tgirl related. I am seeking partners to share the financial risk and help with securing an appropriate property. This is not buying a property or anything on the scale of Casa Susanna, but the financial risk would be less and it could act as a pilot or tester for something on a greater scale in the future.

Otherwise, I would be interested in attending a viability/planning meeting for a Casa Susanna inspired venture in the Brisbane area. Could a reputable person please post a time and place.

    Thank you

Hi Hana, I met Denise and Madeline at the Seahorse Ball in 2006 and lost their business card. I have now bookmarked their sites and hope to be able to visit them next year.

As for Casa S, I am a long way from the east coast at present (hope to change that next year too!), but would support the concept in any way I can.

Love, peace and joy to you all

Read the Casa story and a great place it would have been , 💡 a good sugestion I’m sure there would be plenty of support, finding a place that is central for most might be harder

Lets see what responce there is for the idea.

    Hi all.
I see this discussion has been slow, as in dead but was wondering if there are some genuinely interested people out there at present as a I may be in a situation to get involved with the dream.

Noting that this idea has been on my mind since first mentioned, I had researched possible land/acrage, and had found possibly the best area around, and until I can afford the setup costs, I am unable to set the centre up. I have chatted on TR chat about the idea about month and half ago. 160 Ha in land size
