i regularly get tips from north american stylists. and although our seasons are upside down, some of this informaiton is valuable and can be adapted to our circumstances. here are some i received today:

    Quote:
    1. Retire 2-3 sweaters you never wear anyway. Your closet (and your psyche!) will feel ten pounds lighter — promise!

    2. Add a scarf to your outwear collection in a hue you love. This is the best fashion remedy we know of to ward off the winter doldrums.

    3. Shop for a brand-new workout outfit. Even if you don’t work out, use it as an alternative to jeans and sweaters on the weekends. If you are committed to working out more in 2011, this will help keep you motivated.

    4. Freshen up your boots. By now many of your boots are probably covered with salt and water stains. Instant shoeshines are available at shoe stores for under $5 and work wonders. The local cobbler is at your service for tougher jobs.

    5. Upgrade your PJs. If you think about how much time you spend in them, it’s silly not to love them! While you’re at it, give yourself permission to lounge around in them for at least a good part of one day a week — it does your soul good this time of year!

in terrms of sweaters – instead of getting rid of them (although the old worn ones should be donated), now is a good time to shop for them on-line in america. many retailers are starting to get rid of their winter stock and you can pick up some good bargains for things which you would pay double for here when considering the materials and quality of manufacture (yes, i know, they’re all made in china).

a scarf is a must have for chilly winter days and the same comments i made about sweaters goes for scarves too. as for our when-is-it-coming summer, a scarf for the cooler summer evening or in air onditioned premises can be very handy, and a great way of adding colour to your look, not to mention hiding any multitude of sins on the neckline.

work out outfits get the hardest wear, so there is nothing like a nice new set for the new year. i find mine at factory outlet stores. recently i picked up a nice adidas track suit made of “climacool” – a special fabric which transports moisture away from the skin (yep – enough detail, i hope you get my drift). nice colours too. they have factory outlet stores in harbour town, gold coast; lidcombe, sydney; collingwood, moorabbin and docklands, melbourne (lucky people); and at harbour town, perth. nike have shops in most similar locations.

at this time of year, i take my boots and winter shoes to the cobblers to put new soles on, repair worn heels, and fix loose straps/buckles. that way, i know then when the chilly winds blow, they will be in good shape to put on.

pyjamas can be picked up at summer sales, so if your local department store (david jones, myer, target, k-mart) is having a sale, get on down as the sizes and good styles go quickly. david jones has good outlet stores in harbour town, gold coast and birkenhead point, sydney.

well, i hope these achieveable resolutions are handy and of interest to you.
