A New Book “Ribbons”
Just over a week ago, a new book called “Ribbons” by David Ward was published. I know David as Davina Anne through the Beaumont Society which is the UK version of Seahorse. (Eddie Izzard mentions it in his book “Believe Me”.) The book is fictional but Davina has drawn on her own experiences as a crossdresser to create much of it. In a recent email to me, she said:
(quote) Following on from our emails last month, my book ‘Ribbons’ is now published in Kindle and paperback editions, all from Amazon.
Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk also have my profile on their Authors Central pages, and i’m just sorting out my author status with Goodreads,
Like everything else, especially on this subject, there’s no ‘one size fits all’ to be found in Ribbons. There never will be because we’re all so very different. But I can quote American author Suzie Carr’s view of Ribbons – “I believe this story will touch the people who read it and offer them a sense of hope, love and friendship in a world that desperately needs such things.” That’s good enough for me.
I’m attaching copies of the cover and back cover blurb.(unquote)
This is the back cover “blurb”:
(quote) Sara Wilson has always dreamt of a successful writing career. When the writing assignment of a lifetime lands in her lap, she suddenly questions her ability. Does she have what it takes to pull it off?
Sara’s big assignment – interview Greg King, a once big name in pop music for a tell-all autobiography that she’ll ghost-write. Sara soon discovers that she’s not the only one struggling with her sense of self when Greg reveals a side of himself that he’s kept hidden from most everyone. Greg discloses more than just stories from the old days with his band the Princes when he introduces Sara to a mysterious someone named Carley.
As Sara digs into his story, she meets people in his life, some supportive and some very much not. They will help Sara to tell his story – the good, the sad, and the secretive sides. All will challenge and inspire Sara and Greg to face some of their own problems that have kept them from happiness. The assignment brings forth much more than either one expected, and what they learn will ultimately shape the lives of so many searching for their own sense of place and purpose in the world.(unquote)I have not read the book (yet), but you can read the opening pages on the Amazon website if you are interested in having a peek. Lastly, Davina told me that: “The mental health charity Mind UK will get a donation from any proceeds from Ribbons. They do great work here, and extended lockdown has raised so many problems.”
I am sure Davina would welcome any feedback, good or otherwise, so please leave any comments here should you read this book.
