ABC Back Roads Programme Last Night
Posted by Marian on 30/01/2018 at 8:59 amHi Ladies
Some of you may have seen the ABC Back Roads feature on TV last night which had a segment on Di Reeves a long term Crossdresser and her wonderfully supportive partner of twenty plus years. Seems this community called Violet Town is very welcoming of gender diversity and the local police officer a beacon of support as well.
Anyhow our fellow member Caty gave me a heads up about the programme yesterday and I watched it on ABC IView this afternoon.
See link appended below.
Regards
Marian

I will force myself to watch this episode on your recommendation Marian!
I find that Heather Ewart who hosts Back Roads THE most annoying host on television…yes, even more so than Grant Denyer. If I were the Producer on Back Roads I would leave her on one some where

I watched this with my unsympathetic wife and it gave her something to think about seeing how the wife was so supportive. Maybe it will herald changes in my spouses attitude to my dressing and gender issues; maybe not but one can only hope.
It was an excellent handling of the issue.

Hi Emma
Although Di only appears for a relatively short period in the programmes narrative, I, like June, was impressed with the support given by Di’s partner. This takes a special kind of woman and definitely a ‘keeper’. This said, if my recollection of the programme is correct, Di was upfront and honest with her prospective partner before their relationship developed. It would not be easy for a wife or partner to come to terms with the revelation that her “significant other” has a predilection to dressing in her gender. I know a lot of members face that challenge and have to deal with a somewhat begrudged acceptance for the sake of the relationship. But even this level of acceptance speaks volumes for the accomodations that women do make at times.
Hope you enjoy the story if not the presenter.
Hugs

I watched this program by happy accident. I just turned on the TV and there it was. The amazingly accepting community left me with a nice warm feeling.

Veronica x xTo quote Meatlof, “You took the right words out of my mouth”.
But I fear we might be heading for a chastisement, getting off topic as we are.

Guest02/02/2018 at 3:10 amHi all, a few thoughts from my perspective. Linda and I spent quite a few hours with the Backroads team and found them a very easy bunch of people to like, and therefore, let them in to a very personal side of our lives, that has been hidden by me for sixty years until three years ago. The interview alone took two hours, so there was a lot said. I was so caught up in the process of all this lighting, fancy cameras, sound equipment and their relaxing interest in what we had to say, I quite forget “this is national TV”, easy thing to do with these people and of course that is their job, and my favourite subject – transgender.
So when we watched Back Road’s previous episode on the Pilbara and saw the first promo for Violet Town with me in it, I thought, “oh struth what have I done”, and had a bit of a panic trying to remember what I had said. This continued for the week and got progressively worse. So Monday night came around very slowly for me and to our delight and relief, the program met the reassurances I had received from all those I had expressed my anguish to. Phew, I could physically feel the tension leave me.
But then something very special happened. Our phones, SMS, Facebook pages, Messenger and email went into overdrive, and we were both over whelmed by the messages and calls of support and love we received. Very hard to write a message of thanks with eyes full of tears and that is still happening today. I was down the street today (in heels of course) and was stopped with hugs, smiles and handshakes, so this for me has been a very positive heart-warming experience I would not have missed for anything, and in the end very glad of the opportunity to do it. So friends, new and old, a heart felt thank you for being you and your love, acceptance and support.
Cheers, Diane Reeves of VIOLET TOWN.
