April Ashley: Her Role in My Transition
April Ashley, the first UK SRS person to hit the media back in 1960, has been in the news quite a bit this year as she turned 80 and had a museum exhibition in Liverpool celebrating her life. You can google a multitude of stories about her but here are just two:

In 1960 I was just 12 years old and a voracious reader. In the Sunday newspaper I found a version of April’s life. The thing that hit me was that the physical transformation, at least initially, seemed to have come on her by surprise in her teens. I was both horrified and fascinated. I asked my parents who assured me this only happened to people who were already that way inclined. Nevertheless within two years I was seizing every opportunity to borrow my mothers clothes and increasingly fantasising about my body changing. I think I have to credit April Ashley with kick starting my journey. Thank you April.
