Guest06/06/2010 at 10:01 amI agree with almost every point made. Gender is in your head, not between your legs. Transition is > 70% social etc. All good & relevant points. However I started my transition with SRS. Why? Because, like the other point often made, we are all individuals & make decisions which we believe are in our best interests. Hopefully we get this particular decision right. In my case I could afford SRS, I did not have any concerns regards surgery, I have no children, my partner & my remaining family supportive, the job suitable for transition etc. In short I could see no good reason not to. But the big factor was at almost 60 I could not tolerate waiting a second longer. That’s my situation & my decision, so far very good, we’ll see what the years bring. And to quote another post I’m enjoying the journey

Guest11/07/2010 at 10:57 amI am a transgender person who transitioned 18 months ago. I always thought that surgery was my ‘ultimate’ goal. But there are risks and I made myself look at the horror stories so I knew what they were. Will it make me complete, I don’t know.
I was married but my ex-wife didn’t want to live with a woman. I now have a new partner who is not keen on the idea of me having SRS. She doesn’t see herself as ‘lesbian’ and with my boy bits she can cope with me being tranny.
But I agree with Portia who said to be accepted as a woman on the most intimate of levels you need to have surgery. And of course you can have a female birth certificate.
