  • How many wigs do you own?

Posted by Anonymous on 19/08/2009 at 4:13 am

I am sitting here feeling a little down as I’m home with a cold, just reviewing the forum one of the threads got me thinking how many Wigs do you need.
I know the question may be a little silly but I looked round and found I own 4 of them at this moment. Two of them in my own hair colour in different styles the third one the newest its a beautiful medium length multiple shades from Brown to blonde it’s just perfect, and the last one red wig full length with curls which I don’t wear any more.
So how are you going with your collection of wigs, am I just starting out on some form of wig addiction or is this just normal.
    how many do you have?

I guess there is often a difference between how many wigs we own – and how many we wear!
Well there is with me .

A favourite wig does eventually start to look ratty and sometimes a purchase that looks good in the photo or shop doesn’t really suit us.

So I’ll own up to wearing 3 – my favourite every-day one, one for the beach and cooking (both destroy wigs!), and one for a different look sometimes in the evening.

I own 5 but the other two are dusters.

    I have 5 wigs

I have my everyday one which i wear most all the time, brown with highlights, shoulder length.

I have my favourite which is also my oldest, plain brown, shoulder length. This one suits my face the best I feel

I have a long black one I bough from Ebay for about $30 I don’t wear it very often, mostly when I first came out, I think I might trash it as I prefer the shoulder ones.

I have a long brown Mono wig and its a nice one but its hard to keep looking good

I have a red wavy one I will trash when I think of it.

I once bought a blond wig off ebay and I binned it 5 mins after trying it on for the first time. I am not a blond.

BTW This is my 100th TR Post :)

I have to own up to 4.

My favorite is Auburn and there is no doubt it is the colour that suits. I bought all mine from International wigs in Newtown…when they were there.

I tried blond and black and brown and grey but only when I tried the Auburn did I suddenly look natural. It is amazing when you get the colouring right.

Don’t really get enough opportunity to wear them

What a loaded question this is Penny!

Umm, I have more wigs than I can poke a stick at!!!

I have medium, long and very long length wigs – short styles look boy’ish on me!

I also have straight styles, curly styles and layered styles.

Then again, you could call me a blonde, brunette, black or a red haired girl!

As you can guess, I have endless options for a hairstyle everytime I go out!

Truth be known, I have two favourite styles in particular colours.
The rest are handy for varying my appearance to match the occassion – i’m lucky in that I can change my “look” considerably and still blend in as a female.

    Hi Penny,

I own 38 wigs. Mostly long, but three medium length.

Mostly brunutte, with perhaps 7 blonde, and a few light brown. All with bangs. I found at an early age that when properly styled, bangs allow for the greatest versatility in creating a natural looking front hairline.

Styles range from mostly straight to about 10 wavy, and just a couple curly. Only a few are human hair, the others synthetic. I have every wig I’ve bought since 1998, and they are all still in very good condition. I’ll never wear a wig more than twice without shampooing and conditioning before the next wearing.

For me wigs are like shoes – I can never have too many.

I have 9 wigs. Of those, I’ve worn 7 to the Newcastle cafe nights in the past 2 years. All of the ones that I wear now are longer than shoulder length, straight with a solid fringe and skin top parting.

The other 2 were an expensive mistake made at a local shopping centre years ago. One is a brownish red bob that almost matches my own hair colour. Sadly, I just don’t like the bob look and haven’t even tried it on in years. Maybe I should give t a good clean and brush and see if I can stand it. :-P The other one was actually bought for my wife, and is a style that suits her but the colour is wrong. The only person it really suits is our 6yo son, who looks a little like the feral kid from Mad Max 2 in it. :-)

I had a waist length black wig that I gave to my mother about 8 or 9 years ago after she had borrowed it for halloween one year. It was scruffy with horrible feeling fibres but she likes it for once a year use…

I’m still looking for an absolutely white wig in a similar style to the other wigs that I wear regularly.

If anyone feels like throwing out a wig because it doesn’t suit them but it’s still in good shape and it has a fringe, throw it in my direction. ;-)

Wow you all put me to shame. All i have is a $10 hartail i bought as an impulse buy at a discount variety store. For now, it’ll make do i guess.

    Hi girls

I just love my wigs! I have 8 at present and excitedly waiting the arrival of two new ones. Its when I put on my wig that I feel really transformed.

I have 3 favourites , a long golden blond ( as in my profile pic) , long straight black and a midlength wavy honey blond. I have another I like wearing to bed and the rest I enjoy for a bit of variety. I just can’t resist buying new ones when I see something I like on special

I have 10 now of varoius stylesa nd lengths , but I’ve given a couple away recently. I think I had about 14 at one time (blame ebay).

I hate to say this, but I have’nt worn one for about 6 months, I’m lucky enough to still, at my age, have hair with no receding hair line so I decided I’d let my hair grow and although I’ve tried a wig from time to time they feel really odd now..

I have 3 wigs but two arent really in that great a condition anymore so the one I use is pretty much my only option.
I’d probably be inclined to go for a few more wigs but as a lot of you know, unfortunately most wigs dont fit me but I guess at least it saves me some money

Dear Penny, I think wig addictions are perfectly normal, as are shoe and clothing addictions. ;)

I have 12 wigs … or a number around that mark, one can never have enough, we can’t just go to the hair dressers and get a colour change when it suits us so a stable/harem of styles and colours is an absolute necessity.

Mellissa their would be a way to wash and restyle your wigs im sure as in my hairdressing class we use dolls heads and human hair on them we have a special shampoo and conditioner called acid rise.
We are able to restyle and set using hairdryers and irons and finish with product. The pieces of hair get used over and over some are losing hair but they get colored over and over. You may have to look into it but im sure you can even play with the styles of a wig ill look into it.

    Hi Penny,

I just have the 4 wigs and my plans are for a few more down the track.

My 2 blond ones would be my favourites but the brunette seems to suit me better but i do like to wear different colours from time to time. The latest, a long blonde is in the 100th Newcastle cafe night pic’s.

Some interesting comments here from the girls, some having so many wigs, oh well one day !

    I have 3 of them

1 – its a curly blond thing thats never worn, sits there to remind me dont go to a “I want your money shop”
2 – the long light brown one, shown in my album, the around the house/no make up one now.
3 – the shorter auburn one , my profile one. The full make up, going out one from a helpful retailer.

I wish I had more, like the common theme seems to be : more is better, be it wigs or shoes.

    I have 6 wigs.

Most are red and I go though phases with them. I do like the new look a wig can give.
