Interesting Study Findings: Would you Date a Trans Person?
Hi Ladies
The precis of a study recently completed by the “Journal of Social and Personal Relationships”, the link of which is appended below, makes for an interesting read. Most of you may not be surprised at the findings which were the result of a survey of 958 participants ranging in age from 18 to 81 and with an average age of 26. In this study virtually all of those respondents who were heterosexuals excluded trans folk as potential partners. More specifically, only 1.8% of straight women and 3.3% of straight men would consider having a trans person of either binary gender as a dating partner. Whilst those of a trans disposition responded more favourably to this question (the results of which you can read in this short brief) they were not as positively inclined as one might think.
The study naturally highlighted the situation that some unattached trans peoples face and the potential impact on their emotional and physical well being. Read into it what you will; but for me it certainly re affirms the fact that those amongst us who have partners who either actively support their trans partner, and or at least tolerate it to a certain degree, are keepers.
Whilst the population of data used to underpin this study may not be large enough to satisfy the statistical purists, it’s probably enough to promote a narrative on the subject. And of course it has probably not addressed what might be a more common situation where a partner only reveals his or her gender disposition after forming a relationship, and for the sake of that union and the emotional and physical time invested into it up to that point; that it endures.
Hugs to All
Marian
