I think most people have been on the weight loss kick at some time or another and I’m no exception. Being diabetic, sporting an unhealthy heart, I’ve being trying for a long, long time to eat a completely healthy diet, but to no avail. My wife rules my food intake with an iron fist but with no success. The problem, as I se it, cabbage ought to taste like Tim Tams, but doesn’t. The raw food diet, a wonderful concept guaranteed to make you healthy tastes bloody awful when we’re used to consuming cooked food. Jeorjette is right if you can do it. I reckon you’ll live forever. The trouble is I love my health destroying carbohydrates; its the only way I can feel satisfied. I do my best, but until some clever person out there can come up with an completely edible and nutritous diet, its a losing battle.
My eating style is eat less with more frequent meals, that way you are not hungry and the body copes better or so I’m told. I try to avoid rubbish food, but frequently fall by the wayside, it tastes far superior.
So come on you clever ladies, come up with a winning formula and I’ll be in it full time. I think we would all like to be walking stick insects that can drape ourselves in a size 10 but it’s difficult when you are a hulking, 100kg brick **** house. I eagerly await constructive responses.

    Hugs

Open ended diets are doomed to fail. That is why I have one day (sometimes the whole weekend) a week that I eat whatever I want. That keeps me going throughout the rest of the week. Whenever I want something that I shouldn’t have I say to myself that I will have it on Saturday. (So I am actually never denying anything just postponing it a little). Nine times out of ten, roll on Saturday and I don’t feel like that thing any more so I end up not having it anyway.

Another principle I came across was that most of the time when we think that we are hungry we are actually just thirsty! So have a glass of water. If you are still hungry 15 minutes later, then eat. I have a glass of water a half an hour before dinner and I end up only eating half of my dinner.

Yet another principle is that it takes 20 to 30 minutes for your brain to register when your tummy is full. So when you are cutting down portion sizes eat your new portion size and if you still feel like you haven’t had enough, wait for 30 minutes before having something else. Again, nine times out of ten your brain would have registered by then that your tummy is full and you will be over your craving.

I don’t think that I will give the raw food thing a go. I eat fruit and raw carrots and raw cabbage as snacks during the day. That is okay for me because I love raw cabbage. Not everyone does. And I don’t think I will ever eat raw meat. Meat needs to be subjected to over 63degC for all the bugs to die. I love my bbq’s too much, lol. You can also find some tasty veggie preparations online. Using cauliflower instead of potatoes in a “potato-bake” for example.

    Hi Liz,

I don’t know how this relates to diabetes, but The BodyTrim diet is highly reccomended.

    In other words;

Increase Protein. Boiled eggs, light meat; fish or chicken (crumbed or whatever), tuna snacks, steamed dimsims, salads, steamed veggies (as much as you like). Etc.
…Sounds boring but protein actually does fill you up and gives you more energy to start burning off calories. …You don’t notice the change until you actually have to require your body to work harder.

Whereas Carbs (pastas, pizzas, breads especially) bloat you, and you are more inclined to eat more and more because the small energy produced soon dissappears leaving you empty and craving another binge.
Commercial breads are pumped up with air, so that you think you are getting value, but are rubbish. I eat a rye bread from Atlantic Bakeries, fills me up without bloating.

You will find that with the extra energy produced you will burn off fat, your dependancy and craving for carbohydrates will decrease as you become accustomed to your new body image, and your self esteem will increase.

This formula is so simple; remember the Healthy Diet Pyramid we learned at school ? It is not bulls**t !!

20-30 mins per day exercise, (just walking is enough, running /jogging only jarrs your bones). Just walk around the block, you will find much to interest you.

Don’t ever go to the supermarket on an empty stomach. If you need to snack, eat mixed (unsalted nuts), for example. Stay away from Coca Cola and potato chips, …even so -called healthy snackfoods are rubbish, all fizzy drinks, beer wine etc. You can drink low carb beers (Nat. Blonde) Don’t eat so much at the evening meal, you only go to bed on a full stomach. Try to eat your bigger meals during the day, but breakfast must be protein based to provide energy during the day, so that your body will burn off unrequired fat.

Have a look at Jeff Jowett’s BodyTrim. It is not a con, it’s not a diet. …It really does work. you don’t even need to buy his products, just listening to a sensible healthy eating regime will point you in the right direction.

    Regards and good luck,

    Jannine. xx

    Hi,
In naturopathy and similar. Look at the past

Have you seen a fat Indian?
Have you seen a fat Eskimo?
Have you seen a fat Aboriginal?
    Have you seen a Fat …………….. ?
    Have …………………………

How many fat people were there, lets say 50yrs ago?

America is leading in health science but has the most fat/obese people in the world. Think about it, please

Nearly every customer I see in my business, I plug health to make them aware. Before college and a lot more after college

Please look at the web sites and delve further into related links
It works I am largely there and in a year or so, Totally Raw Vegan
It does not happen over nite
    Start with baby steps
I talk from experience not just study

    Carol Alt is one I realy favour. She take supplements like myself and has raw foods and look at her?. I know I never will be like her but I am going to do the best I can to approach the;

    * Ideal weight
    * Make HRT work as best it can by reducing other toxins taxing the body
    * Skin
    * And much more as previously discussed

Please do a short course in Nutrition that is unbias

At the risk of sounding pompous, the best way I’ve found to get rid of a stomach when you are XY is through exercise. So called specialised diets, even if they help you lose weight, won’t magically tighten your tummy muscles. One diet where I lost a lot of weight quickly (5kg in 3 weeks and I only went on the diet to support my then wife) was the CSIRO diet. In fact it worked so well I ignored the limitations on alcohol and didn’t make any of the breakfasts and kept using full ream milk on my muesli or weetbix. It’s a high protein diet but it does require a bit of agility in the kitchen at times.

    Hi Everyone,

The diet industry is controlling you so they do not go out of business. They lie, cheat to get you dollars.

    Do you want the following

•How to navigate your supermarket – what to buy and what to avoid
•The real truth behind “DIET”, “SUGAR-FREE” and “FAT-FREE” products
•How to overcome food addictions and cravings
    •Why fad diets don’t work
•What food additives to avoid and how to read labels
•What is fat and cellulite and how do we get rid of it for good
•The most effective detox and cleansing strategies, and
•How to eat for clear eyes, glowing skin and healthy hair

I have been doing this for a while now and it does work magnificently. I am still tweeking to get it perfect but to have a partner who has her own ideas with no foundation makes it harder

Hi all. All this talk about diet’s is making me hungry, LOL
Seriously though, Although some tips are quite helpful I think some are a bit extreem. I personally have always been battling weight for years. I have had sucsess on two occassions (had a relapse after first but wont go into details).
We all have to admit two OBVIOUS factors.
    1. What you eat.
2.What you do (or dont do)
I believe the simple key to a diet is this, IT MUST NOT LEAVE YOU FEELING HUNGRY ALL THE TIME.
I believe in having that BIG juicy steak (no more that twice a week) Just dont have sugary marinade’s or sauces with them.A salad and boiled spud instead pf chips with it.
For breakfast every weekend i have bacon and eggs (trim off excess fat) and wholemeal bread only. Protien is satisfying and gives you more chance of succeeding.
Soups are also a bonus, chock full of vegi’s and have your chicken or beef in them.
Snack on raw nuts. fruit, Crackers and dip (check for the lowest sugar and fat in both) Smoothies are great.
Sorry but I refuse to give up alcohol. But I add diet mixer with the hard stuff.
Even have some DARK chocolate as a treat (once or twice a week only) and I dont mean the whole block either.
I have no training or degree but to me this is achievable and realistic and it worked for me twice.
First time I lost 14 kg from 82 kg down to 68 kg and it took about 4 months.
Second time around (not finished yet) I am currently 69 kg down from 78 kg and still a work in progress.
I am going well with the diet side of it (sometimes fall off the rails. Damn potato chips)
The next part is the DREADED exersicise.
The secret here I believe 100% is consistency (what worked for me)
No point doing the bootcamp workout from hell once a month then being a couch potato for the rest.
The first few times are the tough ones, but if you can plan to give yourself one hour to exersise every second day you will get good results.
I done it with walking as briskly as I could for about 30 min each way.
Beware if you have to much weight on dont jog or run. I done this and got very bad pains in my shin’s. Once you get lighter you can jog.
A few tips that helped me were this
1.” Hills are your friend ” because they give you more for less distance.
    2. “Step’s are your friend” they get your heart pumping.
Say this to yourself when you reach a hill or flight of stairs.I still do.
Each morning as soon as your feet hit the floor. Try to do a few push up’s and crunches. Its fine if you can only do two or three as next week that will be 5 or 6 and so on.
One thing the experts always say that’s 100% true (though it sounds annoying coming for some one with a perfect body and face) is “You will feel more energised and less tiered and want to do more in life”. This is after a few months when you are getting “FIT”
As I say I have NO qualification of any sort, just experience of what worked for me, and I am basically a lazy person who LOVES to eat and drink. So the odd’s were stacked against me .
Another thing to tell yourself is this. “How long have I been unhappy with my body or fitness level” ???? a week ? several months?? Years??? most likely. OK then if you can “GIVE” yourself a few months of your time to try this it may help make you happier and healther.
What do we have to lose?
Hope I wasnt raving on to much but this worked for me and I KNOW what it is like to be unhappy with your “OWN” body. BUT I also know what a F#@%KING AWSOME .WONDERFUL,JOYOUS, feeling it is to look in the mirror “naked” (no sexy bra n panties to help) and think “God I look good”.

Weight loss simple ditch sugar ! hard at first but gets easier no bread ,pasta , rice ,potatoes stay away from carbs in general concentrate on protein. Bacon and eggs for breakfast no problem, steak ,chicken unprocessed meats all ok . Fat is not necessarily your enemy your body will pass most fats ,sugar on the other hand gets absorbed almost in entirety. In fact just eating a boiled egg within 20 min of waking will kick start your metabolism to burn more effectively oh and give yourself a treat day once a week eat what you feel like .

    Hi All

Well this is a old thread, but i have a few things to add to this

Firstly, its a shame i have not posted photos showing before during and after photos , most of them are in male mode

I have lost a lot of weight , home scales could not weigh me as most go to 120-140kg

For the record, was was just over 200kg est at 215 , after developing Type 2 diabetes, and blood pressure being 150/120 i was in a bit of trouble

I saw maybe 4 different dieticians, all but the last one spoke jargon, the last one sat down and explained all the buzz words

If was a game of trial and error, but eventually it was found i just had a common problem, eating to much of the wrong things , more importantly what they call the white death
    Salt
    Sweet
    Sugar
    Sodium

Add to that Alcohol , i am a moderate drinker i may go a month without a drop, if i do drink it will be either one small beer bottle or a glass of alcohol.

It was found i usually eat because i am hungry, and biologically i was getting sugar attacks , this made diabetes worse.

For those who monitor there sugar levels, i failed the diabetes test, original reading was a 6 , had the sugar drink, 1 hour later i was 14 , a hour after that 11 – type 2 diabetes , your body does not get rid of sugars fast enough

So being councilled to count calories, all food that i bought i had to take the food label or packaging in for her to analise , there are many web sites , but a slight variation in name or brand has significant effects
Perfect example is say canned tuna, read the sugar and salt levels of all of them, they can vary from 5% to about 23% this is different brands and same brand different flavour

I was then put on the 2 hour snack , this consits of a 1kg yogurt and a 1kg contained of sliced fruit – i had to drain 70% of the fluid and replace with tap water because it was high in sugar

After 6 weeks, i was not hungry by lunch time, and also going home i could not eat my regular meal.

Also i was taking those lean cousine and the aldi alternative, this was interesting , most were about 2200 kalories ( or kilojoule cant remember )
But more importantly i was told that i could have the chicken and tomatoe , and the beef , if i wanted the spicy indian or curry it was about 3500 kilojoules , so make the decision 2 of those meals eg i1 x lunch and 1 x dinner or just the indian

The other thing was that all of them have about 10% meat or veges the rest is pasta or rice , both are carbs and i was told zero carbs , yes the average person is allowed 2 slices of bread , i probably have 1 or 2 slices a month now !!! – bred and carbs is evil

after 3 months i was getting slack space in by trousers, say every 5kg is about 1 finger space in the belt holes

by 3 months i could not eat a maccas for lunch, i started just having the patty and the salad , the rest goes in the bin, basically you are allowed 2 junk meals a week , for me it was maccas on monday and unbattered grilled fish friday

Eventually i was chatting to a customer and they told me to go to tony ferguson chemist, there scales do 250kg , the night girl told me , all i had to do was get 2 cheap scaled and stand 1 leg on each one, they will show the same result, just add them together

I joined tony ferguson, it was maybe $30 , got the cup and a excellent diet book and cooking book, unfortunately my wife does not use it

I started taking theer meal replacement powders, i did originaly use optifast or optislim i cant remember the name, but it had a side effect with me i it game me the runs , not pleasant, i saw the regular dietician, my GP , and the tony ferguson consultant and they all said the same thing, a ingredient is troubling me – a friend of mine stock pepsi max (i think its dark blue or black ) after a glass i get the gasses and then the runs , there is a ingredient in it that affects some people

Cont second post this is getting big

So, after all that i had a working plan

    1) no carbs
    2) no junk food
    3) max meal is 500grams and can be a mixture of meat and veges
    4) the dietician have there 3 part plate roughtly 33% protein – meat , 33% veges ( best steamed but boiled is ok ) , 33% dairy – come on who is going to have 33% cheese , like cheese but not 33%
    5) No Snacks !!! – but there are some exception

    Exceptions
    1) one off handful of mixed nuts
    2) 1 or 2 sao with tomato , cheese , and avocado
    3) 1 large or 3 small fruit , eg pear , apple, orange , avocado
    4) almost unlimited amount of steamed or boiled veges like beans, peas , soy beans , carrots , broccoli , cauliflower , you can have a small amount of sweet potato – its not a bad as the regular potato
    5) actually 1 bag of popcorn, microwave only and not salt or butter

    Main meals

Weighed min 250gram to 500gram max , usually i will have a small piece of steak or fish or pure beef pattie , it should be no bigger than the palm of your hand or say slightly larger than a iphone ( or 2 or 3 credit cars )

you can have the same or double in veges, steamed / boiled / fried on electric skilled – a George Forman or similar is best

for 2 years this was my daily routine

8:30 coffee at work , every 2 hours if hungry a mouthfull of yogurt and some canned fruit ( if you slice your own it goes black and sugary fast )

lunch : choice of a small can of tuna, or those lean cousine , eat the main meal , and the same size in the rice / pasta , yes you will throwing most of it away , its better in the bi n than in you

continue with the 2 hour yogurt / fruit

dinner : 6 days a week its the serving of meat or fish with the veges

One meal a week i have what the family has, but limited to 750KG in weight – this is my treat !!!

So in 6 months i lost about 30kg , i then decided to get a referral and had a lap band operation , the cot is 15k straight out, or 1 year in health fund and about 5k in the gap

Is that a lot of money – maybe , but guess what , i save about $200 a week in junk food , even 5 x $10 work related lunch meals is $100 a week, add the same for 2 or 3 nice dinners a week , there is $200

Ad another $50 in junk i dont buy, chocolate , lollies , biscuits , chips , ice cream

Well to be honest , i buy 1 x 6 pack of ice cream now in summer a week , thats its.

Drink is soda or mineral water, 1/2 a glass max , and you can ad diet cordial , fizzy drink you can have sugar free , but its not a good idea , there is to much sugar and you bloat ( well i do )

So where am i now , 2 years later and 96kg

Mens clothes i have gone from 3-5xl tshirts / tops and 5/7xl trousers
Shirts down from 52inch to 40inch

Just measured the oldest trousers i have ( not the biggest ) that was 56 inches, i am now 38 inches waist

Female clothes, well my wifes baggy size 18’s i could just get on, but could not sit down, i did split 1 skirt , size 20 ( her old maternity fitted ok )

Now , a size 14 or medium in the top , and size 16s in the skirt / dress , i can squeeze into a size 14 stretch ( the cotton spandex / or polyester spandex )

    What was the biggest problem
    a) Giving up
    b) Saying its to hard
    c) Not knowing anyone who lost weight , and not talking about the 3 to 5 kg wins

Luckally i do have a girly figure, chest is flat , it narrows to a ok waist , then i curve out on hips

    measurements
    chest 40 inches / 102cm
    waist 38 inches / 97cm
hips 45 inches / 114cm ( the widest part level near groin area )

I look at the gina photos in the last 5 year and i can see it in the clothes and especially the tummy and legs they are all more normal now rather than fat

    Hi All

Ok, if you cannot successfully diet , then medical help in surgery may be needed

options are , and i will probably lix the last 2 or get them the wrong way around
    1) lap band – here you are fitted with sort of a dog collar around your stomach , it is adjustable, the sack is near your belly button and is adjustable , the doctor gives you a local, inserts a syringe and adds or subtracts saline, this fluid sqeezes or relaxes the rubber seal around the plastic grip

    2) sleeve – basically for a bad use of words you stomach is cut and sliced a bit then sewn together, basically the stomach is made smaller

    3) bypass – here the stomach bypass to the bowles is relocated, more food that has not been digested is sent quickly out , can be a nastly mess !!

the lap band, is a overnight operation, i was put under the gas at 8am , and woke up about 10ish , by 12 i was walking around the room, and even went out the corridor for a walk , i went home next morning after check up – it is key hole surgery, about 4 or 5 cuts about as long as you finger nail ,and almost no pain

the other 2 are more complex, you are cut open , expect plenty of pain, mot of the people are on morphine drip for 3 days, its not unusuall to stay 5 to6 days and not be able to move around or try and get out of bed and have stabbing pains

The lap band limits the amount of food you can eat, more importantly you cannot eat big chunks and gulp them down , you will get a choking sensation, i get it with bacon , and some types of fried / sticky rice , also those chinese rice paper wraps i cant have them they are to “plasticky” they are hard to chew as they dont break up

I get once or 2 times a month a choking feeling, and start for the sink, i try to spit out of try and ‘gulp up’ , failing that its in the shower , the only thing that work is some real fizzy coke, try and swish . gargle , even drink some and try and burp it up

I know it sound revolting, but your wind pipe is blocked !!

I has happened with me on the following foods
    * bacon
    * large portion meat ( ie not cut up small pieces ) – you need to keep them about 1/2 the size of your thumb
    * eating tomato that is to hard
    * cucumber
    * asian sticky rise , test by turning the spoon upside down , if it does not completely fall of you are in trouble

But the best thing is i dont feel hungry, i have gone as a trial 3 days with just 2 or 3 coffee and one tony fergusons meal replacement

    My current day is

Coffee work when i turn up
maybe a tomato or 1/2 a cucumber for lunch – yes really
i get home and make 1 or 2 sao with a choice of tomato, avocado , cheese , those olive and spinach dips
then at 6:30 the main meal – 250-500 grams meat / veges

that is it , usually a hour later i will have a coffee or tea

if i get hungry there is another saos, or the small can tuna ( most time 1/2 of it , glad wrap and in the fridge ) , you can buy these satchels of microwave veges , they are good , or i just boil 1 or 2 small corn

You can have the meal replacement at lunch time , then for dinner , have a small meal

Side effects , none really, i get cravings but can be easily satisfied with the snacks i mentioned above, and some times will get headache at night when i sleep or early in the morning, if i dont have meat for 3 days i get some headache, in most cases it the fluid loss, you should have 2 litres fluid a day

    ok fire away questions

    cheers
    gina

Yah !! …Dark chocolate is the go, there has been research that states dark chocolate has flavinoids that release biotin, which plays a part in reducing stomach fat. But in moderation, like 30 – 40 grams daily
