Mineral Cosmetics
Over the past months, I have begun the process of switching to mineral cosmetics. In particular, a mineral foundation – but also bronzers and eye shadow. I must admit to still preferring traditional lipsticks!!.
After looking at samples from many manufacturers, I have settled on one brand which seems to work well for me and which, I suspect, could suit many TR members. This brand is Inika – it is a local company and the product is a loose “powder” compared to some of the alternatives which are supplied as a solid (compact). I understand that TR does not function as a commercial site, but I’d like to recommend that anyone interested in reviewing the cosmetics that they are using should consider initially browsing the Inika website at http://www.inika.com.au.
You may develop a favouritism for other manufacturers but, I found this to be a good starting point to which I continuallly returned. (I also tried samples from other manufacturers but found this brand suited my need)
What seems to me to be the major cosmetic benefit of mineral foundation is coverage with a very natural look. I do not have the scientific knowledge to argue any comparison with traditional (liquid) cosmetics. Nor, will I get into discussions about natural or vegan products etc. I’m interested, at least initially, in the finished look.
The price range is between the supermarket brands and the high end market. However, the good coverage with minimal use of the product probably puts it into the “value for money’ category.
For those of you in groups on the eastern seaboard, you may be interested in requesting one of their demonstrators to attend a meeting. I have a suspicion that you may learn more about the product by watching it being used on a number of different complexions.
Although you can buy online, including sample pots to establish the correct colours for you, most of their retailers will package up a small plastic bag of some products for free. If after this, you feel you may want to continue down that path, I’d recommend a Starter Kit. Although this may seem pricey at $124 (or $110 for seniors card!!), the value is reasonable. I did find that their brushes were much better than off the shelf brushes that I already had at home.
