Oscars make history, quietly, with transgender nominees
Hi Ladies
It seems that Hollywood is having a little bit of an epiphany in respect to finally recognising productions and performances by transgender folk. In recent times it has been criticised for failing to cast transgender actors in favour of using cisgender stars. And I guess we have discussed of late many of our favourite movies or TV series which had a Trans theme. Upon reflection, and much as I enjoy these performances, the acting is generally performed by ‘straight’ or as they term “cisgender” actors. Not that I am inferring that those of our persuasion are straight or otherwise. Either way I hope that some of the very sensitive portrayals in the movies they talk about in this article, and that are nominated for awards and recognition by Hollywood, raise awareness and promote better understanding and acceptance of the Trans community.
