I can get a reasonable female voice but I rarely use it so far but I still practice from lessons I had in the past. Once I am happy I will periodically go back to the speech therapist for upgrades.

The trick is to speek at the tip of your lips and slightly beyond. For this you need certain sounds to enhance this area.

Say Pop pop pop pop ……. pap pap pap…… puck puck puck …. or similar sounds. This will get the tips of the lips tuned. Make these sounds louder and louder over time. Then once tuned, divert to different sounds that are harder.

When speaking make the sound come totally from the lips. Also females move their mouths more which needs to be copied.
The sound becomes deeper and more male like when the source of the sound moves back into the mouth so keep the source at the tip of the lips.

A idea for you to explore

And explore I shall Georjette! I really appreciate practical things to try that others have had success with. I’m already trying to speak more with the lips than back in the mouth. I have to be careful though or I end up sounding like Richie Benaud!!

I purchased a 3 cd set on voice femisation made by a couple of GG’s one a professional voice therapist and the other a professional singer and also working with TG women at various stages with their voice through the program.

I have only just started but so far have found the material to be excellent and very structured. The exercises are straighforward and the program is based on using a chromatic music tuner (ie: electronic guitar tuner) which is used to make sure you are producing the correct pitch. This gives the advantage of instant feedback while using your voice and you can adjust on the fly.

Once the pitch is right they move on to resonance in the second cd.

Before this I tried the Melanie speaks program but found it was not structured enough for me.

I understand that the program run by Kathy Perez “Fundamentals of Your Feminine Voice” is very good and is recommended by a person I know (I haven’t bought it myself). There are some sample lessons on the website.

The current cost is US$87 with a 60 day money back guarantee.

Oops – same people, except the link above is for download of mp3 files as opposed to CDs purchased, which attract a US$14 shipping charge.

    My apologies.

    Hi Virginia,

The ladies who produced this product have several different websites. Both sites have a lot of extra information to accompany the program so it is worth having a look at both of them.

Sorry I did forget to mention that mine is in Mp3 format. The mp3 is high quality and I would not bother with ordering on CD either.

The program requires a chromatic tuner, but I have been using a program on my “Android” mobile phone called “DaTuner” which does a nice job and is free.
