What is your Favourite TV / Cd themed movie or TV show
Posted by Anonymous on 31/10/2017 at 1:37 pmThought I would lighten the mood a bit and would love to know what everyone’s favourite tv show or movie is that has CD / Tg themes.
Mine was a show on ABC iView called Hit and Miss about a transgender hit woman who finds out she has a son from an earlier period in her life when she was still male. Found this series both sexy and entertaining with an equal proportion of serious themes and some lighter moments
So what is yours?????

Hi Glenda. Good topic. Although it was a complete fabrication for the benefit of movie goers I thought that actor Chris Williams portrayal of Tina the transvestite in the Worlds Fastest Indian hit the spot for me. Great actor and a very sensitively portrayed scene in the movie. Roger Donaldson the Australian born New Zealand film director said that he included the transgender scene because he wanted to show the full range of the great Burt Munro’s character which included his unique quality of being both colour and gender blind in his relationships with people.

I recall watching this and thinking the writer or writers, had to know a lot of the CD fiction plots.

Hi Ladies. I note no one has made mention of the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” as yet. This is a film that still has audiences dress up for annual screening events and in many respects provided the opportunity for some of us to come out of the closet. So I started to wonder how influential that film was and or how it was perceived within the CD/Trans community at the time…..or still is for that matter. Anyhow a recent trawl through the net took me to this anonymously written post that sought to answer that (Appended below) . I am not saying that I either agree or disagree with it but it provides one perspective that I struggled to articulate. And it reminds us that we all have different but no less relevant responses (at least to us as individuals) to movies and tv shows that incorporate a Trans theme. Whatever yanks our chain I guess.
Hugs Marian
Q. What’s the perception of the Rocky Horror Picture Show within the Trans community?
“That’s completely open to interpretation. At the time, it was considered a challenge to social norms. The writers were LGBTQ+, some of the cast was LGBTQ+, the characters broke free of standard gender and sexuality, etc. etc.
Of course, when we look back on it now, with current societal standards, and the development of the LGBTQ+ community since then, it’s easy to say, “This is wrong,” or, “This is offensive,” but at the time, it was awesome. Like, it was incredible for this to even exist, much less receive the hype that it did.
It’s kind of a love-or-hate film, honestly. I love it, but a lot of trans followers hate it (this has come up before). It’s okay to love it, and it’s okay to hate it. Films give different individuals different feelings and ideas, and there’s nothing wrong with that.”

Loved this film, full of the best actors of the time and the cross dressing was well done! Very funny movie.

One movie that had a big effect on me, probably as I was very young (8 or 9) was “Thoroughly modern Millie” My older sister took me with some friends in the school holidays. It is set in the 20’s and the main male character cross-dresses to help catch a white slave trader I think. Stars included Julie Andrews, Mary Tyler-Moore and Carol Channing.

Guest06/11/2017 at 12:14 amI loved and still love THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW In 1978 my wife Gillian and I were operating Cinema 300 in Nelson Bay and we ran a series of Saturday midnight shows and they were packed!
Being an underwear freak I was Frank n. Furter, and Gillian and a couple of the female staff were Janet.
We gave prizes for the best dressed patrons, we even had a local councillor dressed as Frank N.Furter! Prizes were Red Vinyl LP’s of the show, courtesy of Festival Records. I presented the LP’s on stage before an audience sometimes of 300 fans. It was huge fun and a great success! Thats coming out!!!
Out of interest I have been living full time as Michelle, and have changed my name legally My gender is listed as female by Medicare and Centrelink I am 87 years old in December, and my wonderfully understanding wife of over 45 years still sharing the same house! -
What a wonderful story there at the end Michelle All power to you and the lovely Gillian xoxo

Favourite ‘TV’ shows? How can anyone forget the greatest TV show of the 20th century. MASH; OK, not really CD or trans, but it was there. ‘KLINGER’ an odd bod amongst the army, again, or was it? The show was initially meant to be funny and it was funny, but the downside, the continuous casualties our heroes patched up, the seemingly constant need of alcohol, who could blame them? Like all great and classic stories, a relatively simple tale with complex characters. Totally unforgettable.
