Helen,
It is fascinationg how sometimes two or more persons have the same background! Public Radio announcers! Well we seem to be in the right place! ๐ and the fact that we could always be there when called on to fill in for others made us indispensible! 20 hour shifts were not unusual for me ๐ณ -

Guest03/02/2007 at 1:38 pmHi there girls,
This is a great subject as is evidenced by the amount of responses. Personally, I grew up with music as my life force and guiding direction. I proceeded through clunky cassette players, mono record players up to hyper good hi fi. I stayed up till all hours with Nightmoves, and all the other programs.
I played in a few garage bands but now just play guitar for myself. I like acoustic and electric guitar and have a passion for the 60 & 70s with ad hoc stuff in between. My partner thinks I am a walking time warp full of inconsequential trivia about records, record jackets, guitars, tours and band memberships from this time. I think My thoughts are that I have a hobby.
I saw Eric Clapton on Thursday evening in Sydney and felt I had a semi spiritual moment. For a confirmed skeptic / cynic and probable athiest, this is not a bad feat. but love it all. if anyone else saw him, write back to me as I would be interested to know your thoughts. I went with three rgular girls who had no real interest in the music and were only going as they had access to good tickets.
As Sally I like the blues as it lets me move into areas and spaces that are very important. There is something revealing about good sorrowful blues guitar playing that just lets you explore hidden but interesting areas of life, especially Sally.
As my alter drab ego, I like the Stones, Hendrix, Deep Purple, Led Xep, Yes, Status Quo, Cream and I suuppose you can guess the rest.
I also have a love affair with Barbra striesandd, Christine from Fleetwood, Carly Simon, Sam Brown and other ladies of significant artistry.
As for talking books as brought up by others, I use them all the time. TV is not an option as I think it is dumbing down our brains, children and society and is one of the great evils. I pick up talking books from the library, rip them and load onto the Ipod to listen to them at night in bed, on the trains, at work, washing up and cleaning. very relaxing to hear a strong professional reader tell you a story. For all the issues relating to people enjoying the concept of reading text, you must remember that most history is oral history, that stories were oral and were passed down through many generations with feeling and skill. A good talking book is only a slight variation of this.
So that is my longest post and one I have a passion about above most other things.
Porr Sally can get off her soap box now!!!
Love and thanks to you all for the valued comments you all provide. PS. have been asked to do a community radio spot very soon in Sydney. a bit of confidence and I should get it together very shortly,. You might be able to guess the music style That Sally will impose on the world!

Reckon I became very boring, very, very boring talking between discs!!!

Guest04/02/2007 at 9:57 pmAlmost forgot, there was a trannie at the Clapton concert. She was totally overdressed for the occasion, cream coloured strappy after eight/cocktail dress with black stillettoes but she looked fabulous.

Guest05/02/2007 at 12:35 pmas much as i love eric clapton, i missed his show ) :
and he played many of the goodies from his huge back catalogue, but what makes eric a hero for me is that he overcame a terrible drug addiction … maybe it will catch up with him sometime, but i think he is contrite and donates a lot of money to drug assitance programmes and aids awareness campaigns.
anyway, back to topics of more interest to the general populace on this site, the cream coloured strappy after eight/cocktail dress with black stillettoes outfit seems perfectly good to me, but maybe i have weird taste! : ) not sure what i would wear to an eric clapton concert, actually – rock chick leather jacket, jeans and boots? any thoughts, ladies?
and tonight, i have just got back from the scissor sisters show. and what a great performance they put on. it’s not a big deal, but ana matronic is such a wonderful performer. for a former bloke, she has a fantastic voice, and plays a major part in the band. Read all about them:
http://www.smh.com.au/news/gig-reviews/scissor-sisters/2007/01/22/1169330815666.html
or go get one of their CDs or DVDs . they are fun! and if there is one role model to support in current performing arts, i can’t hesitate to recommend ana and her band. if anything, they are good for a twirl in the privacy of your own lounge room!
maybe they have set the scene for the upcoming mardi gras, which is an event that gives us a once a year chance to give a reminder to the general public that we are what we are and proud of it. i urge you all to do all you can, even if its a small donation to the bobby goldsmith foundation, or pop along to the fair day, and buy something from a stall.
omg … i have gone all wordy again …

Last year he sold ‘Blackie’ to charity, raised nearly a milion dollars, (according to a recent newspaper article).
As for you being all wordy? Not at all sweetheart. Just a raconteur.

A good point Virginia, but lets not forget that apart from Ana there is Eddie Izzard and the wonderful Lily Savage (Paul O’Grady) to keep an eye out for in the performing arts arena. If you haven’t seen Lily’s version of the old Graham Kennedy show Blankety Blanks then check it out on UK-TV on the weekends on Foxtel.
As for music, I also have eclectic tastes. I’m not a great one for the classics (I played the violin for many many years and I’m completely over it) but like aspects of most styles except baroque/chamber music and chanting monks. Love the swing sounds of the 40’s to 60’s, disco, and most styles mentioned above. I have found myself (unbelievably) drawn recently to english end-of-the-pier type performers such as George Formby, Flanagan & Allen, Chas & Dave etc but this phase will pass.

Guest08/02/2007 at 3:22 amHello all,
I’ll make it a trifecta of community radio announcers then, but I am still doing it (well actually I just started a few months ago). Be interested to know why the other girls gave it away?
Anyway I like all sorts of music but have a soft spot for the seventies I guess. Don’t like rap, just don’t find it musical, but there are plenty that do so good luck to them. Can’t stand opera and not a big fan of country but most anything else I will listen to.

Hi Kiki, the reason I gave it away was because I moved to the city, also mainly because I don’t reckon I was that good as a presenter!!! **LOL**
I didn’t have the dedication to do the level of preparation necessary so I usually ad libbed. But talking for long enough made even me bored!!!
I seemed to be better as a panel operater and support for those who got a tad lost doing their show.
Cheers,

Guest09/02/2007 at 2:59 amHi all !
Well let me make it 4 who do or have done radio broadcasting ! I have had my own show on a community radio station here in Sydney for th past 2 1/2 yrs .Before that I was on a another station on and off for 3 rs – at times do ing my own gig and at other times filling in. I love it immensely and I would like have a tranny as guest cohost (or just guest ) on th program – not so much to talk about Tg,CD ,ts etc stuff exclusively but to entertain and give the gender thing a bit of good publicity…
The show is usually pre recorded so it can be done at a time when you are available. I would appreciate help with this
ANy takers ?
Hugs

Guest09/02/2007 at 10:04 amI’m into songs rather than artists. Having said that some artists have many great songs.
In highest rotation on my mp3 player is Everlong, Generator & Learn To Fly (Foo Fighters), Headspin (Supernova), Mr Brightside & Somebody Told Me (The Killers), Dakota (Stereophonics), Crazy (Seal), The Great Gig In The Sky (Pink Floyd), Roses (Outkast), Where Is The Love (BEP), Forever Young (Youth Group), etc…

In reply to why I gave away radio announcing, the Station Manager EMBEZZLED the income/station revenue and the station had to close, throwing twenty announcers off air.
What drove me mad about this person was that they had the gall to tell a client (IN NO UNCERTAIN WORDS) what they could do with their ($50,000) sponsorship, one that I painstakingly set up over five weeks!!!!
I still have feelers out for more opportunities to get back into the system.

I still have feelers out for more opportunities to get back into the system.Hi, sounds familiar, our manager shot through with funds, went to Europe. He came back and repaid the money though. His mother told him off and he got the guilts. Aren’t mothers wonderful, travel agents for guilt trips!!!
Here’s an idea, why don’t we team up, do a breakfast programme. We could have an actual Tranny Radio!!!! I bet there is plenty of talent here.
