Where to buy old-fashioned stockings
Posted by Anonymous on 21/03/2008 at 3:18 amThis may sound a bit silly, but where can you get normal everyday stockings? I have looked around, asked in lingerie shops and yes, they have stay-ups and stockings that attach to panties, but no good old stockings that need a suspender belt.
My next trip to Melbourne will be a stocking hunt. Any help will be gratefully accepted.

Guest21/03/2008 at 11:50 amHi Helen
I buy my stockings from either Myers or David Jones – Sydney or Melbourne. You have to look around in the hosiery section but they are there.
Being an old…fashioned girl, I do like the old style stockings and belt for those special occasions!

Hi Helen
I am transsexual woman … I don’t post much on this site but your post got my attention mainly due to the fact I actually know where you can get good quality stockings. Myers sell a wide range of styles, colours and paterns. They are all top quality and as such are on the expensive side. I myself prefer pantihose and only ever wear them in winter when I go to work. What can I say I am practical girl.
I hope that helps. If you make regular visits to Myres they frequently have sales on shoes, dresses, blouses, slacks ,skirt, hand bags underwear etc all really good quality frequently it is as an end of line sale and things can be mark down as much as 75%. They don’t advertise these sales you just have to regularly visit and just look around around. It really pays to window shop regularly.
Have a good one
Lots of love

Guest22/03/2008 at 10:20 pmHi Helen,
I have found that some “Stay-Ups” go real well with Suspenders. I never wear Panty Hose as I am “Old Fasioned” shall i say. I have found a Brand from “Big W” stores. As i am tall i needed something that was longer than what is generally available. They have a lace top and a silken sheen when on. They look fabulous. The brand name is “Wicked”
Hope this is of some help

Guest23/03/2008 at 1:16 amThanks to all! I went to Myers yesterday and found exactly what I wanted. Yes they are a tad expensive, but you get what you pay for.
Again, to all thanks XXXX

Guest23/03/2008 at 1:44 amHi, If you really want proper ‘non-stretch’ stockings I can recommend stockingshq a UK based online retailer of al things stocking related. Be careful with sizing though as they are often shorter in the leg if you have less than thin ones. Delivery to Australia is generally pretty quick and prices, especially if you look for bargains, arn’t too bad.
Good luck

Guest23/03/2008 at 10:32 amRe: Stockings
I know what you mean, hard to find a every day type, the voodoo, Leg avenue, kicks and Elegant moment brands are very nice but i cant see the average cost of $10 in value.
I used to enjoy the Leon worth suspender hose, till David Jones Tuggerah took them off the shelf about a year ago.
Just after xmass this year they stopped selling all stockings with exception of the 101 brand in osfa (one size fits all).
Revealing my sources i have a constant auto search going on ebay and a few other auction sites.

Guest23/03/2008 at 1:41 pmHi Helen,
Target own brand stock ‘normal’ top stockings – made in Italy, good quality and reasonable price. Woolies sell the cheapest, “Wicked” brand, also good quality. Op shops often sell packet stockings at about a dollar a pack. They are usually supplied by department stores from unsold stock. Stockings do get brittle with age so you may only get one wear out out of them. A first wash with “Hosiery Mate” (Google online) helps prolong the life of any hosiery.
Murphy’s law is that, now, you are falling over packets of stockings wherever you look.

Guest24/03/2008 at 4:02 amMadeline,
I got some from Myers and was happy that they stocked them. Its amazing that when I tried to buy some in the local lingerie shop they had stay ups, the ones with suspender straps on to connect to your panties and only 101s. The saleswomen told me that stockings are out of vogue these days. Pity because wearing suspenders and stockings is on of dresing’s little luxuries (well one of many!).
It looks as though I’ll be travelling to Melbourne when I need to buy new stockings.
Hugs

Nadesha, what is the URL for Savers, or is it a specific branch that carries the stock?

Guest31/07/2012 at 8:13 amHi
It was over four years ago when I started this thread. I found stockings in Myer and they were great…. I have also used the TG clothing site ‘Suddenly Fem’ as they sell larger sizes. The price isn’t too bad, especially as our dollar is now highere than the US dollar.
Thanks all who responded.
