What is also refreshing is that the comments made on the article are 99% positive. There was a time when such articles would attract postings from all the trans-phobic readers. Not any more it seems.

After the fiasco of the last census ( http://forum.tgr.net.au/cms/forum/F408/6420-australian-census-offers-other-option-for-gender-question ) this is welcome news that this years census will not require those who identify as non-binary to ask for a ‘special’ form.

Better than that, the article that Caroline refers to

This has the potential to identify how many respondents have a gender identity that differs in some way from the expected gender given their assigned sex.

It won’t be perfect because I know of transwomen who because they blank out their past will state that they were female at birth.

But even with that proviso, and the inevitable transgender people who are unable to be honest on the form because others see it, it is a leap forward.

Thanks for the reminder Jeni,
I’m hanging in there barely 3km from lock-down – so maybe I’ll be needing the old ISO Meeting Room if things go badly here in Sydney!
But I think we talked about nominating the last Sunday of the month as Zoom Meet-up night. Which would make the next meet-up on December 27th – at 8:30pm Eastern Daylight Saving Time (Sydney time).

Totally agree!

The three things that stood out to me reading the article were:
1) The complex issues surrounding children who identify as trans after the start of adolescence – this is an area I have read little about.
2) The contemporary pressures on natal females during adolescence (something I was not really aware of). It perhaps explains the apparent rise in natal females identifying as non-binary, gender fluid or pan-sexual.
3) The difficulty accessing professional and caring support for parents who find themselves having to make difficult choices like those the author has encountered.

My understanding is that dancing and general mingling are banned in NSW at the moment.
Events have to be seated.
It certainly is putting a damper on Christmas Parties in Sydney.

If attendees are members of TgR you can (I believe) notify them by using @ followed by their nickname… like @Caroline @Vanessa_collins , @Kristen_james , @Julie_Anne , @Belindabelle ….. This works even if they haven’t subscribed to the forum thread.

Of course if they aren’t members of TgR then this won’t work ☹…but you could ask them why not over dinner!!!!
