This is an area that I have been having some trouble with myself. I do not believe there is an easy answer to this, as everyone’s voice is different. For me, it seems that there are two ways to go about getting a voice that passes (I’m sure there are more tricks).
One, you can try to create a completely new higher voice, this is difficult as you must practice a lot while you are alone or with a SO, this can be awkward (but so can sounding like Wolfman Jack in heels and a skirt). When using a completely new higher voice one has to be conscious of staying in character (a slip is much more noticeable). This can be difficult and is easier for people who are good at doing impersonations or those who have acting experience.
Second, one can try to make their own voice softer even if it is naturally deep (This is the technique I use most. I find this easier, more natural and remember a deeper sultry voice is considered sexy to a lot of people but don’t over do it!). Try using your own voice only talk lighter and more breathy (from the throat).
This also needs to be practiced, but not nearly as much. It is also much better in the case of a slip because the change is not as dramatic, you may just sound excited and it is easier to regain your “character”. Also remember to talk like a woman, Don’t curse or yell or do anything to attract attention to yourself. This may not help much but I feel it is one of those areas that needs to be practiced and how to go about this is different in every case.Submitted by: Nikki

What I do is speak softer, lighter and with a slight upper swing. men speak harsh with a more lower ending swing to their voice. I also find that my voice becomes much lighter and feminine when I speak from the back of my throat rather than from the bottom of my throat or diaphram…..I hope this helps you…it take practice and singing and talking to your self while your in the car driving home from work really helps….

My tip is this…. Do NOT alter your voice in a false manner. You will sound like a bad Meryl Streep wannabe. Just speak in a normal manner, but try to end phrases on a higher tone. You’ll notice that men tend to end phrases on a lower tone, and women tend to end on a higher tone. If you go natural, also try to just relax and speak in a gentle, very kind tone. Others will warm right up to you. (Patrick Swazie in “Too Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar” Does this very well. You want to become friends with his character “Vida” right away.

I am a trained singer and so I am attuned to listening to male and female voices.
I find that most crossdressers make the mistake of trying to speak in falsetto, thus soundig FALSE. The trick is in using a softer tone in just a slightly higher pitch than your normal voice. Many women speak in a male voice range, but with different inflections and vocabulary than men. Here’s one way that I practiced female speech: I taped women who were speaking on the radio. Usually talk shows where they were speaking naturally rather than acting. Then I would play the tape back and try to imitate them.
It took some time but soon I became very good at it.
Another thing to try is to make yourself sound like a cartoon character, especially a witch. (!!!) Speak a repeated phrase from the back of the throat at a high pitch. Continue to speak the phrase, but go down the scale and lower it a little with each repetition until you achieve a soft feminine tone. When out in public, have a mint or candy in your mouth to keep it moist and allow speaking to flow easier. Hope this helps.Submitted by: Amanda (not the webmistress though!!)

I have been using a Veronica 3 from classic curves to acheive all these things, with just one garment. I have been very pleased with it , to say the least. The garment itself is lightwight, and the gel pads “feel” much more natural than the foam version. The “cinch” in the middle gives just enough, and I can move and breathe. The “diva” effect is also built in “topside” and I wouldn’t be without one again. They aren’t cheap. But…. I have really been enjoying wearing mine…not dreading putting it on.

Just a suggestion in regards to DIY foam padding.
If you use home-made pads, such as Wendy suggests (I do), then you may have come across the problem that sticking them under your control panty can present a problem when the panty has to come off, e.g. you just have to use a public bathroom, and the pads fall off. I found it extremly diffcult to re-position them without a mirror the first time I was forced to use a ladies room (I pass without (observed) question). Having to repeatedly wait for the room to be empty to check myself in the mirrors, then duck back into the box to adjust, then repeat, just took ages.
So, why not copy what the Veronica-garment does?
Get two pairs of close-fitting ladies bike pants (cloth-type, not the smooth/slippery polyester types). Put on one fully, the other partially, place the pads (one at a time, pull 2nd bike pant on fully, smooth the creases, etc… done.
Then always take the lot of together and the pads stay in place, even when stored. Cuts down initial dressing up time by about 10-15 minutes too.Submitted by: Michel

Depending on how much you value your time, making your own could be a net loss, even against the expensive alternatives (i.e. the Veronica from Classic Curves http://www.clcrv.com ). I own one of these fabulous garments and seldom dress without it. It adds hips and tush in just the right proportions in just the right places. So what you pay for it up front saves a *lot* of trial and error.
Lately, when it comes to pricey garments, I’ve developed the philosophy that I’m worth it. And so are you.

If it helps, the standard profile of a woman which is ‘universally’ found attractive to men is a hip to waist ratio of between .6 and .8. Measure your hips at the widest point (where the leg bone fits in its socket) and multiply this size by .8. You’d probably be surprised that most guys have a hip measurement there of about 90cm (approx 36″). This means you only have to pull in the tummy to 72cm (about 28.5″) to have a figure which ‘just’ fits the profile. A guy’s biggest problem is with his lower ribs…they stick out further than a woman’s. If you keep this in mind when cinching with corsetry, it may help make the whole thing more achievable, especially with exercise.

Get a piece of dense foam rubber 2-4 inches thick and 2 foot by 2 foot. I used an old cushion off of an easy chair that was being thrown away. It was free.
Cut the cushion into 2 symetrical pieces shaped like: holsters/ pork chops/ the continent of Africa. Pick the image that is easiest for you to picture. Taper one side of the foam. a quarter inch or so thick at the edge and tapering in perhaps 4-6 inches. An electric carving knife is ideal for cutting foam rubber but scissors work.
The hip padding is worn with the long section extending down the outside of the leg and the wide portion wrapping around the buttocks. Wear them with the flat side out and they look smoother than the tapered side outwards. I try to make them thick enough that the width of the hips balances the width of the shoulders. It makes me look 15 pounds heavier but in most women, extra pounds are normal.
I wear mine under body shaper garmet that goes from the waist to the knee, but then I usually wear long skirts and slacks. If you wear short skirts try making a shorter set and wearing them under a long leg girdle. You can make pads that just wrap around the hip area and wear them under a panty girdle. If you use a foam that is not dense enough, try wearing them under control top panty hose instead of a foundation garmet.
Find some JPG’s of full frontal shots of female nudity or in bikinis. You will see that the widest point is not at the hips. The widest point is on the side of the leg, bottom of the crotch level, where the leg bone angles into the hip socket. Try to achive this effect.

first, just like a woman, you have to lose weight, body fat to be precise. then you have to exercise. stand with your feet shoulder width apart and lean to the side, keeping your palm flat against your leg until you can lean over easily and touch your ankle bond. do repetitions of this and the love handle area will fade away. then, get a waist cincher, like a small girdle with no panties in it, some have attached garters and come about 5 inches below the nipples. lace it up, or hook it and you will be amazed how great it looks. you MUST buy it at least 4 inches smaller than your natural waist if you are serious….bye for now

I am going to have abdominal reduction ( more drastic than tummy tuck) wear wide dresses and/or maybe use some padding, hip enhancers, untill I can find a surgeon to insert the right stuff in the right places. Main problems with surgery right now is it may never look right bare and it will never be comfortable in bed. The price women have to pay to look beautiful!!

If you have very wide shoulders this is the biggest problem with this part of the body.To create a believable female shape here you must get your hips at least the width of your shoudlers, preferably a little wider. One of the ways you can do this is to by a proper corset.I where one sometimes.A good one will cost you about $300.00.They pull your tummy in and simulate hips, girls must have hips.If you want to pass in public to any extent this is very importaNT.Try experimenting with lady s coats/Formal or dressy ones work well because they usally have body, and contours in them which can help simulate curves.Avoid flimsy flowy things there not good at hiding male shape. The smaller you are across the shoulders the easier it will be for you.If you can fit in to a size 12,coat ok then theres hope, any bigger than this may be a problem.

Wear dresses like larger women do and stick to longer sleeves and remove hair from the hands.

Break up shoulders and large chests by layering.
Don’t wear straight colours, or if you do wear a white collared shirt unbuttoned to break it up.
Hands are the crossdressers curse, long nails will tend to make your fingers look longer and more delicate and if you can wear nail polish, this will help disguise big nails which go with big hands.Submitted by: Steph

Males have a hip width about 10.5cm narrower than their shoulders. women have a typical difference of about 2.5cm. The most effective way to “reduce” your shoulders is to increase the width of your hips. See the section on curves for some suggestions. Adding to the hip width also has the effect of making the waist look smaller. You will also need to go large on bust size to balance the shoulders and hips. The result is MUCH more natural than trying to go without padding, and the padding adds suprisingly little to your apparent weight, and you will also find that getting the proportions to “average woman” shape will make it easier to buy clothes.
