I must admit to being surprised by Amanda’s email alerting us to the filming at TF. I was not sure how I felt about it but was not unduly worried.
Having read all the posts and concerns regarding the documentary I think there will nothing to worry about as long of a few ground rules are respected.
As agreed, Amanda must have the absolute say on final edit, no argument.
I do not have a problem with the filming but I do not wish to push my luck by offering to be interviewed for personal reasons. ( I just may have a child studying journalism who might well get to see it through student links. She is very perceptive and you can guess the rest)
I fully support the no partners filming rule. We are to a degree ‘in disguise’ they are not. No one would recognise Jan as ‘him’ but him as him they would (of course).
I would ask the students to restrict the Katoomba references if they have not already planned to. I realise the Carrington is easily identifiable but only to those who have been there and I would not like admirers and red necks or loonies travelling to Katoomba in future for what ever reasons they may have trying to get access to the event.
If done tastefully and discretely I believe a well made and presented doco to be a good thing for our public image.
Hope we don’t regret our generosity.
Regards,
Jan

Must have read the equivalent of a set of encyclopedia on this subject over the years trying to work this ‘thing’ out.
When I find someone who has transitioned on the net and details her experience I am fascinated with the wheres, whys and hows. Whether her transition is successful or not I need to learn all I can.
After sessions with a psychiatrist specialising in gender I have come to the conclusion that one must help oneself, no one can do it for you.
Amanda and Christina’s posts contain good points and add to my research and learning.
I believe there is another qualifier or reason why some of us transition. Please remember this is my own personal take and feel free to argue. Some of us just want to be women. We don’t have to, we don’t feel we are women trapped in a mans’ body, we are not effeminate when presenting as men, we have been successful in our male lives but we would prefer to be a woman.
I have read that one must never transition unless your life depends on it and there is absolutely no other alternative to ones survival but I have also learned of very happy women who in my opinion transitioned because they simply wanted to live their lives as women.
When I apply myself to such things as gender scales and the cogiati I find I do not test as overly female unless I am doing it from Jan’s aspect. She is a woman but he definitely is not.
A can of worms, Pandora’s Box or a Red Herring I do not know but it is what I have observed and how I feel.
This type of discussion is one reason I love meeting gender diverse people and listening and learning and reading posts such as Amanda’s and Christina’s.
I hope some members respond to this whether they agree or not.

Once upon a time young well to do boys were brought up like this:

Bring it back I say.
One would be hauled over the coals today.

I hate to be one to tell you but there is a difference girls.
If there was not a difference we would not be so envious I think.
I played with trucks as a kid but would have played with dolls if allowed, maybe those kids are just like us.

Hi ladies, I did a lot of research prior to deciding how I would have my ears pierced.
I used a dedicated piercing salon and of course the hollow needles.
They supplied me with a product called “Body of Work , Body Care Lotion” which I still use each time I insert an earring.
I really did not want an infection and still don’t. I don’t need attention drawn to my holes even though they are clearly visible and I don’t need the hassle of an infected lobe.
I use the above, wash my hands and my earrings every time and have thankfully had no problems.

Not to be too bitchy but he was a pretty guy to begin with!
Loved her eye makeup especially.
Thanks for the link,

Bambi,
Your testimonial sounded too good to be true. I thought “here we go again”
But I have to say you were spot on!
Now we can all be beautiful.
