Is there someone clever enough to start a facebook group for the cruise?
It maybe nice to have a place to post pictures and ideas as the date gets closer.
And to help co-ordinate connections and logistics.
    What do you girls think?

    Great Shana,

Unless someone has a better idea.

    Whoa!
How about thinking that some people ( including me) are not on Facebook anymore?? I don’t see any benefit in going to FB.
Why not continue the various comms right here in this thread.?
This is where it all started.!!

As to a name for the Event
I’m still Ok with Cruise to Nowher providing someone edits Nowher to Nowhere

If the title of this thread is to be changed perhaps we should drop the “nowher” as it is not really a cruise to Nowhere – it is a cruise from Melbourne to Sydney. There are cruises to Nowhere and they normally simply sail out of port, cruise around in circles for 2 or 3 days, then return to the same port. So a 3 day Sydney to Sydney would be a cruise to “nowhere”

As soon as we disembark the ship will sail off to Alaska via Hawaii.
This means that our voyage will have quite a lot of people from Vic, Tas, SA & WA who will be doing the full trip.
So if you really enjoy the ship you can try to stowaway and enjoy about 25 more days at sea!
Three weeks tomorrow my wife and I are sailing on the Majestic Princess for a 13 night round trip to New Zealand. This ship is bigger and newer than the ship we are sailing on next April but both ships are operated by Princess. However there will be some similarities and so I plan to bring home with me details of drink prices, dinner menus, and daily activity programs etc which I will make available to anyone who is interested. And if you can think of other things you’d like to know (like how many lifeboats does it have! – just kidding.) just let me know.

    Re: Communications On Board
WiFi is available on board but is very slow and expensive as requires satellite connection,
Mobiles can work if the ship is within up to 40k of a land tower, and I think there is also the capability to use the satellite for mobile calls via special, very expensive plans.
Also all cabins are connected via a conventional phone (which supports leaving a message) and calls from cabin to cabin are free.
    Hope this is some help.

PS: Have tried taking a pair of walkie-talkies onboard on earlier cruises – was not very effective as the ship has steel everywhere which blocks the signal. You will see the crew using them, particularly when sailing away or docking at a port, but they are very high-powered, expensive units.

PPS: Have just noticed that the ship supports the “Princess on Board” facility which allows you to sent text messages to other passengers using your mobile/tablet and at no charge

This should get an argument going, or a heated discussion. I reckon the name, rather cleverly, works, it ain’t ‘nowhere’, it’s nowher, or ‘Now Her’?

Well I ve learned now that the term Cruise to Nowhere is indeed an established one used to describe cruises that do not have disembarkation points OR described by those passengers who choose to stay on board while ar port.
    So . ..Cruise to Nowhere
is indeed an appropriate term for our event .I was just thinking of alternatives for no really good reason!!
    Although Ilike *TranSEAtion*

On subject of comms while on board maybe I’ll stick to basics SMS text as they say this is available on board.
I get concerned about downloading Apps that want access to your Contacts list.
Some of these apps the send out messages to all that you are using the service and that might not suit you if you want to keep your F name private.

I also had not noticed the clever choice of NOWHER for the name of the cruise which becomes NOW HER. Presumably we can attribute this brilliant play on letters to Shana – or is the truth it was a misspelling? And, if so, do you think she will tell us?

As for Caroline’s concern re the privacy dangers in adding an app to your mobile, much of the on-board information (activity details, your account status, spa bookings, restaurant times etc are available just using a browser. However, I am not sure if an app is required to be installed to use messaging to other passengers.
I will check that out on our cruise in November.

Had a query from an ACT couple, does anyone know if there are any cabins left in the same area?

I’d just suggest they contact Breeana at Clean Cruising to find out as she has been our booking agent so far.

I’ve been online directly to Princess web site and have only found one inside cabin near us but one deck up.

HOWEVER I have also found that Balcony cabins have now been reduced to $344 which is less than $10 more than inside cabins. AND I have found a block of 16 balcony cabins in a good situation high on the ship and right next to lifts, a bar, grill, and swimming pool.

What do you think? I would recommend we all request a switch to these balcony cabins. But perhaps we need to do so quickly – perhaps co-ordinated by Shana through the Cleancruising agent?
