    Jannine, I know that this is a touch off-topic (please don’t edit me Amanda!) but from reading a couple of your previous posts I’m guessing that you are wanting to diet succesfully to improve your image and possibly even your level of self-satisfaction. I can’t offer you any specific comment in regard to the program that you have mentioned but no matter which one you end up trying out I want you (and anyone else that reads this) to take this thought into consideration please?

    The thing that will be hard to maintain is willpower, no matter what you say there will be heaps of tempting situations and the key to making a diet work is resisting the urges that you will get. It sounds easy and in the beginning it might be too but in the long term it becomes a lot harder to do. Also please remember that weight will usually come off pretty easily at the start but then as your body adjusts it will be harder to keep on shedding kilos as well, a reason that you may need to consider some exercise too.

    Like I said, after reading your other posts and your profile I can see that you want this to really work and it is that best way that I can help you in regard to the diet that you want to start on.

    I was reading an article in a magazine today and it stated that the most important change you can make is in the amount of calories you consume.

    The majority of “diets” and “diet aids” may result in weight loss in the short term. but the only long term solution is to consume less.

    Exercise will result in better fitness, but studies concentrating on a consistent diet but different levels of exercise regimes resulted in a consistent amount of weight loss across all categories. Weight loss was NOT consistent with the amount of exercise but directly related to the reduction of energy consumed.

    Look at what you consume now. Keep a diary of EVERYTHING you consume – food, drinks and snacks. Halve your meal size, reduce your alcohol consumption and stick to 4 small, healthy meals a day will usually result in a considerable weight loss. Snacks (all those unhealthy little treats) are a big no no. To burn off a simple donut (or a shot of bourbon and cola) you would need to ride a bike flat out for 2 hours. In other words – no rewards for being good! Exercise will help, but it will definitely make you feel better in the long run.

    Weight loss plans and special dietary regimes, along with gyms, are targeted to those who want to lose weight and get fit quickly and easily. 1/2kg per week is a healthy weight loss goal. It is also more likely to result in “healthy” weight loss – in other words, you will burn off fat instead of muscle density. Any faster and it is important muscle mass that you are shedding. The more muscle you retain, the better at burning excess energy and the easier it is to lose weight. Shed muscle and you are throwing away your fat burning factory and you will eventually put weight on and probably moreso.

    I look at it this way – if I want to have a woman’s body, I need to adjust my diet to what healthy women consume. This was one of my biggest “cons” against my decision to go full time and go on HRT, simply because I do like my food. A little while ago, I gave in to my desire to eat all those yummy things I used to eat without worrying about where it was going to end up. Result – I have regained everything I lost and achieved a new “heaviest ever” personal record. And this is still consuming a lot less than I would have in my previous life. Males burn the energy off a lot easier than women do. I just wish the fat would go to areas more traditional for women when they gain weight.

    Oh well. C’est la vie.

    Thanks girls for the advice.

    Perhaps I should add here that I have never had weight issues before,
    ie; when my album pics were done I probably weighed about 10 stone, which was reasonable for my height of 5′ 7 (sorry, I’m giving away my age)
    I always had great metabolism and could stuff my face with all the junk around the place, but also I used to smoke like a steam train, to excess when I was dressing.
    Around 4 years ago I had an emergency abdominal operation. A major organ burst and I could have easily died, I thought the pain would go away!
    So 10 weeks off work, no exercise and tiring so easily, boredom and being generally male made certain that I stacked on the stones. (sorry, kilos).

    That op. took me 3 years to recover from, to get my energy levels back to what they were, and I always had a lot of energy.
    After all this I weighed in at 80kg though I am so, so glad and thankful that I am still alive., I am also glad that I stashed these photos away for future reference, but the female in me pines for that body again and to get that look, that I once had. I no longer smoke. (that was so easy for me, after 40 or so years, at least I accomplished something.)
    I did momentarily try Body Trim (all protein, no carbs for the first week, then mostly protein, less carbs with a a junkfood day in every week) lost 7 kg. Then after a month of this I got bored, I like potato chips too much!!
    A relative has lost 15 kg on this ‘diet’, another lady I know has a similar story, although due to their ages and relative inactivity ensures they will prob. stack it all back on and more If they dont burn it off.

    I know that exercise is the key, but I am not into that of late. Although I would so much like to don leotards and do a Zumba routine! The idea of a brisk power walk whilst dressed does also appeal as does cycling, but I’d have to do all this after dark. I’m way not ready for the passing out parade just yet. But, there is lots of beautiful sports wear I would to wear.

    I just wondered if any girls had had experience with this ‘diet’, I so would like a online partner with whom I could compare notes.

    I know what you mean, Portia. Would’nt it be great to show off your hips and butt, to get those sexy curves without having to resort to pads, etc.

    Hi Janine
    I agree with what Portia has said. It is the total amount of calories that you consume that is important, what ever their form. Also all movement is good movement. Remember that you have to have 10,000 steps/day to loose weight.

    By just eating less & waiting for the satiety centre to kick in you can loose weight. There is a connection between your stomach & brain that tells you you do not need anymore to eat but that connection is slow. It takes 20 mins. Therefore do not go back for seconds until 20 mins after you have eaten.

    Also fat provides 9cal/gm & alcohol 7cal/gm therefore be aware of how much you drink.

    There is an unfortunate side effect of weight loss – your boobs will get smaller – the nonlactating breast is made up of 80-90% fat. Unfortunately at this stage we cannot body sculpt.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi everyone….
    I came across this and thought it might help…..

    Science News
    Reasonable Quantities of Red Pepper May Help Curb Appetite, Study Suggests

    ScienceDaily (Apr. 25, 2011) — Spicing up your daily diet with some red pepper can curb appetite, especially for those who don’t normally eat the popular spice, according to research from Purdue University.

    “We found that consuming red pepper can help manage appetite and burn more calories after a meal, especially for individuals who do not consume the spice regularly,” said Richard Mattes, distinguished professor of foods and nutrition who collaborated with doctoral student Mary-Jon Ludy. “This finding should be considered a piece of the puzzle because the idea that one small change will reverse the obesity epidemic is simply not true. However, if a number of small changes are added together, they may be meaningful in terms of weight management. Dietary changes that don’t require great effort to implement, like sprinkling red pepper on your meal, may be sustainable and beneficial in the long run, especially when paired with exercise and healthy eating.”

    Other studies have found that capsaicin, the component that gives chilli peppers their heat, can reduce hunger and increase energy expenditure — burning calories. The amounts tested, however, were not realistic for most people in the U. S. population, Mattes said.
    The current study measured the spice’s effects using quantities of red pepper — 1 gram or half a teaspoon — that are acceptable for many consumers. Other studies also have looked at consumption via a capsule, but Ludy and Mattes’ study demonstrated that tasting the red pepper may optimize its effects. The findings are published in Physiology & Behaviour.
    This study used ordinary dried, ground cayenne red pepper. Cayenne is a chili pepper, which is among the most commonly consumed spices in the world. Most, but not all, chili peppers contain capsaicin.
    Twenty-five non-overweight people — 13 who liked spicy food and 12 who did not — participated in the six-week study. The preferred level of pepper for each group was determined in advance, and those who did not like red pepper preferred 0.3 grams compared to regular spice users who preferred 1.8 grams. In general, red pepper consumption did increase core body temperature and burn more calories through natural energy expenditure.
    This study found that those who did not consume red pepper regularly experienced a decrease of hunger, especially for fatty, salty and sweet foods.
    “The appetite responses were different between those who liked red pepper and those who did not, suggesting that when the stimulus is unfamiliar it has a greater effect. Once it becomes familiar to people, it loses its efficacy. The finding that there is a difference between users and non-users is novel and requires further study to determine how long it will be effective and how to adjust the diet to improve continuous effectiveness.”
    The failure to account for individual differences in liking the burn of chilli peppers may explain why some previous studies varied on capsaicin’s impact on appetite suppression and thermogenic response, which is an increase in body heat produced when digesting food.
    Mattes said the findings also show that red pepper should be consumed in non-capsule form because the taste — the sensory experience — maximizes the digestive process.
    “That burn in your mouth is responsible for that effect,” he said. “It turns out you get a more robust effect if you include the sensory part because the burn contributes to a rise in body temperature, energy expenditure and appetite control.”
    Mattes, who specializes in taste and directs Purdue’s Ingestive Behaviour Research Centre, studies the role taste plays in feeding and digestion.
    “Taste works on two very different levels,” he said. “First, it determines the palatability of foods, and that influences food choice. Second, it influences physiology, so it alters how you digest foods and the efficiency with which you absorb the nutrients from them and use them throughout the body.”
    The study was funded by the National Institutes of Health under the Ruth Kirschstein National Research Service Award and by the McCormick Science Institute.

    Well, the only diet I’ve ever really been on is the CSIRO diet. About five years ago my ex wanted to lose some weight, so to help her I went on the diet too, even though I didn’t need to lose weight. Well we ignored the bit about low fat milk and only two glasses of wine per week. We made it two glasses per day. Despite these “naughty” oversights I still lost 5kg in a fortnight and a lot of friends thought I’d caught some life threatening disease. It’s a high protein diet, so it works by the protein suppressing your hunger. I think what really worked for me was sticking to the diet recipes and not eating anything else-no biccies at morning tea, no takeaway etc..

    As you know doubt have read weight loss cannot be controlled to one area of the body it occurs all over. What I did to loose 12kg and not build up muscle, was half sit-ups each morning on the floor. I started at say 5 then slowly worked my way up to about 60 a time.

    I also reduced my consumption; no alcohol, no snacks (no chocos, no fast food, no carbonated drinks). I replaced snacks with fruit like apples. I ate smaller portions at meals.

    My weight loss was slow (about 100g a week) so it took about 8 months to reach my target goal.

    All the best for your weight loss.

    Hi,

    The tummy is the last place a man looses weight as opposed to females who suffer with it on their bums and thighs. The only way I have been able to loose my tummy is to first loose all the other weight on the rest of my body. So I have lost 13 kgs in the last three months (OK I took the holiday season off) just by cutting out all carbs, snacking frequently during the day, drinking lots of water, cutting down portion sizes gradually, and doing some HIIT walking (google it) first thing in the morning to get my metabolism going (only 20mins). I have heard that exercising one’s abs only creates a beautiful six-pack hidden under inches of tummy fat. I also have one cheat day a week where I purposely eat lots of carbs and anything else I feel like. It’s all about tricking the body into never going into starvation mode and trying to store energy (fat). It’s also about keeping the metabolism going. White wine has the least amount of carbs so I do indulge there, lol.

    Hope that this helps!

    Hey Sharon,

    Sounds to me like you have been on Jeff Jowett’s BodyTrim diet too !
    I have, and it worked for me. I have lost 20 Kg in 7 months. Now I am down to 65Kg and still going.

    BodyTrim is not really a diet, more like sensible eating; ditch the carbs, eat more protein.
    I eat a boiled egg in the morning on rye bread toast with a smear of Veggie spread, (NOT veggiemite, or Promite). Ditch all white breads, they are full of sugar and only bloat you.
    I eat a small tuna snack tin midmorning, then for lunch I can have chicken patties or crumbed fish, or meat patties, rissoles etc, with as much salad or steamed veggies as you like. Get a George Foreman, they are marvellous for getting rid of the fat from food, and quick.
    For dinner much the same; any meats, white or red, without fat, enough to fill your hand, with only steamed veggies or salad. Don’t tip all the goodness down the sink.

    Drink V8 or similar (but not tomato juice) and coffee or tea with a sweetner tab, but only one. Snack on flavoured tuna, Sanitarium Nutmeat is good, (except I eat a whole tin!). small amounts of cheese, skim milk in tea etc.
    READ labels, go for low carb stuff. Don’t be conned by advertising.

    Carbohydrate bloats, makes you tired, creates fat storage. Most foods contain s***loads of sugar, a trick so that we want more, supermarkets promote high carb, high sugar foods, to con us to spend more, Coca Cola is the worst offender; we are being conned at the expense of our health.

    Protein fills you up; gives you energy, which you burn off, taking excess calories with it. Simple. Not hard science.
    Walk, DON’T run. After the evening meal is the best time, not necissarily in the mornings.

    Once a week you can pig out on junk if you want, but go back to protein again, You need to get your metabolism going.
    I also drink a herbal green tea called Nutri Slim once or twice a day, (you never see a fat Chinaman, do you ??) it gets rid of toxins in the body, but initially don’t stray too far from a toilet; when you gotta go, you just gotta go !! It takes about 10 – 12 hours to work, and the first stomach pain you get, ..head straight for the dunny. But this only happens at first, and you will always feel great afterwards. (don’t say I didn’t warn you !!).

    Cheers,
    Jannine. xxx

    Never heard of it, Janine, but, yes, it is just common sense. I have still not read anything to say that fat makes one fat! I still eat lot’s of fatty stuff and have lost weight. I love my cheese and big strips of fat on my steak (drool). I also love eggs so my breakfast during the week is two boiled eggs. The big thing is carbs, and especially simple carbs e.g. sugar and refined grains. I have even cut out rice, potatoes, pasta and especially bread. On the weekend, although I am free to eat whatever, I try to fulfil my desire for carbs with complex ones like brown rice, wholemeal bread, etc. All the unrefined stuff. Sweetcorn is also carbs but a complex one so I binge on popcorn on the weekends. Stevia is a natural sweetener that is 300 sweeter than sugar and has no effect on blood glucose levels, and it is natural, so none of those possibly cancer inducing artificial sweeteners.

    A great example of pseudo healthy foods is yoghurt. They advertise in big letters that it is 99% fat free but when you read the ingredients you find that it is packed with sugar!!!!! Be aware, be very aware. lol

    Anyway, I still have another 5kgs to go before I reach my ideal weight of 70kgs.

    Love ya-all.

    Easiyo is a good make-your-own yoghurt, buy the packs at the supermarket then make up using the Easiyo container. So simple, and full of flavour.
    But as you say Sharon, with added sugar. Easiyo has 14.9g per 100 grams of sugars, 4.1g Protein, and Total Carbs are 15.1g. But it tastes nice !!

    Most artificial sweetners contain supposedly cancer inducing chemicals, (but what foods don’t these days?), but there are some that are ok. I only have one with coffee anyway, and drink max. 4 cups per day.

    Lemon juice has been found to reduce and even stop most common cancers, according to US. research. I will email you an article I found recently.

    Cheers,
    Jannine. xx

    Hello All,

    I too have been battling weight for a long time. I have tried to set goals and lost all battles and thought I lost the war like most in society. I kkep on trying many products at my disposal. Hormones initially added to the problem and rather than rattle on, up to a year ago I was nearly lost.

    What I want is
    * Increased general youthfullness
    * better looks for my age
    * Better skin for my age
    * Wean myself off drugs from open heat surgery 22 months ago
    * Not go the same way as the sick society whose only aim is money
    * Weight loss naturally and slowly
    * Better circulation
    * Abundent energy
    * Stave off old age diseases
    * Increase Immunity multi-fold
    * Better Eye Sight
    * Good healthy Blood Pressure
    * And heaps more

    And Ladies it is all before your very eyes, and blinded by clever advertising. I did mention words to this effect in topics over a period of time

    This program can reverse diseases like Diabetes in 30 days, MS, Cancer etc, and a very very long list
    Yet it is illegal to say it can cure Cancer to protect the drug barrons but success percentages are many fold higher
    I know of two people who had stage 4 Cancer. With proper treatment both are at stage 1.

    I know this topic is weight loss but this program has many other side effects like mentioned above so this message will cover several subjects on TGR

    This program will also make the body stronger so it can better deal with toxic substances like HRT, dead foods, polution etc.. When I was on conventional HRT, I had swollen legs, weight increase, low energy etc. Now all gone, but I have my own source of Estrogen and co-factors as mentioned in TGR’s HRT
    I went to the hospital last week for a progress and the remark was “You are looking well” . Before long I had two doctors evaluating.

    I briefly read Bambi’s effort to loose weight or MASS as I sometimes call it. She is on the right track but has not gone far enough for optimal health

    SO WHAT IS IT ” RAW ORGANIC FOODS”

    I started this a year ago and studying to become a naturopath in due course, my findings were only supported by what I was taught. So if I am away for a while it is not that I have lost interest but have a lot on my plate. I also run my own business, so I hope you understand.
    I will periodicly contribute as information come to hand relative to this site

    I know there are those who doubt but this mare has bolted to the greener hills and has tasted the grass in the meadow as a sample. I will give you sites to wet your appetite. I am sorry you can’t change my opinion as I have, and am seeing massive positive changes in myself. It can also be likened to a mineress who struck gold and someone tries to convice her otherwise.

    I thought I was on a roll when I started to supplement RAW foods a year ago
    When I attended college 4 months ago I took on the new and additional information and placed it into practice in days and now I am benefiting

    Weight loss 1 year ago about 130kg, weight 4 months ago 128Kg, Now 109 kg Note no particular effort was made to lose weight It just happened naturally. I do 1hr Cardio once a week

    4 months ago
    HIP 124cms Now 118cms New wardrobe now Sz20 skirts are hipsters
    Waist 108 cms Now 100cms

    Just whole good food, bountiful energy, no fad diets
    Coment 1/6/12 NEW WARDROBE Nicer clothes in 16-18 range

    Target about 95kg MASS

    These sites I hope will insipire you to above benefits. Please, if you really want to do it, invest in some of these videos. The truth is out there

    The choice is yours
    Invest in your doctors finiancial well being and in hospital with loss of income
    or
    Invest in a longer healthy life and family and girly things

    Short Notes
    * Cooking food distroys 100% enzymes and 80% of water soluable vitamins
    * Enzymes (co-factors) are distroyed when heated above 47 degrees C
    * Some foods require cooking to release more minerals and vitamins but enzymes are distroyed
    * First thing to do is detox
    * After a time I love to eat raw foods more than any other food. I now complain when it is cooked
    * Remove as much acidic and processed foods as possible
    * If you go ahead DETOX and go raw slowly
    * Organic raw food has cost me more but because it is nutritious I only eat aproximately a third serving

    Live long and prosper

    There is some truth to what Jeorjette has said. Though to red meat eaters you must be careful about antibiotics in the diet of your animal. while it’s not as prevalent as the US many of our own meat producers (Cattle mostly) engage in the practice. This hurts the bacterial balance of healthy cattle and undercooked red meat in certain circumstances has the wrong bacterial balance in the enzymes that Jeorjette spoke about. This can upset your own balance and in some sad cases fatalities.

    So if your going to eat Raw meat please ensure that it is good quality and ensure the source does not use antibiotics.
