Guest11/06/2010 at 8:10 amGiven the complexity of the domain business that Amanda has explained and the strictures on keeping TR as the symbol, then I think Transgender Radio ( or Rodeo??) or Transradio are appropriate . Any confusion over” radio”part is not serious enough to worry about given all the limitations and explains the subject of the site well enough. Also it is well enough known to not confuse searchers . I have no problem with Tranny though I do not identify with the label myself.

Guest11/06/2010 at 9:09 amPersonally, I think the name gives an indication of what the site means. Its a way Transgender people can air their views, discuss topics and comminicate with others in a non-threatening manner. It paraphrases what the site is all about.

Keep the ideas flowing girls…and thanks to those who have donated to help cover the cost of registering business names and taking out additional domains.
I’ve posted a poll to see if we have any consensus on the way forward yet.
Please hop over to

Guest13/06/2010 at 7:57 amI like the sound of Transgender Radio.
When I first came across Tranny Radio, I thought that it was only for “trannys”, and I was initially put off until I discovered that the website caters to a broad cross-section of trans* people. To me, trans includes tranny, whereas tranny could be seen to have a more narrow focus.
I’m old enough to get the double meaning of tranny radio, and I like it, however I identify as transgender, and I feel that having a name that reflects the broader focus would be a positive step.
I would welcome any name that includes transgender. The advantage of including transgender is that it immediately and clearly identifies the focus of the website, and makes it potentially easier for people to find us.
A word of caution if using trans rather than transgender. Trans is quite often used in the URLs of sex-related trans* websites, whereas transgender tends to lead to transgender-related lifestyle, information and support websites (such as TR).
Is is possible to have http://www.transgenderradio.com.au? I think it would be nice to identify us as Australian.

Guest14/06/2010 at 1:09 pmI must be missing the point as I see no need for change. Some have said that the branding as it is may be hard to find or understand…. hmm there seems to be quite a few of us who have found it anyway, tis amazing what we can find on the internet…whether we want to find it or not lol.
Besides even if the site was re branded what do you think we would all call it in conversation….. that’s exactly right….. Tranny radio. -

Guest14/06/2010 at 6:53 pmWhen I was first told about tranny radio via some chat on the net, I thought it was a radio station where tranny’s as in hookers looked for customers, so I spent a long time keeping my distance with a barge pole.
Then it was called TR and I came and had a look and have never left.
I like TansRadio or Transgenderradio, as now I have gotten use to te idea that radio is a way to broadcast news and information.

Guest15/06/2010 at 10:37 pmI actually really like the word tranny. I’m a tranny, my young Australian mtf and ftm friends are trannies.
Americans seem to hate the word more than Australians or British. I suspect the word may have actually come from Australia, but the idea that it’s an offensive word definitely came from America decades later.
Some transsexuals hate it for the same reason they hate the word transgender – they hate being associated with crossdressers and part-timers and occasionally they even hate being associated with non-ops or pre-ops. But that’s a bit snobby, isn’t it? We’re more inclusive than that at Tranny Radio.
Others hate it because it’s used by sex workers and people who don’t even like us much. But if you think about it, that actually proves that it’s the best word: sex workers have to use whatever word their clients (ordinary, everyday men) understand, and people who don’t know us use whatever word they know, so what it proves is that tranny is easy to say, easy to remember, and everybody knows the word.
Haters will use the words they know, and any words they use will sound hateful when they use them, but that’s a factor of their hate rather than a property of any particular word. They use any word that catches on in the broader community, because that’s the words they know, not because the words themselves are evil. Any word that doesn’t catch on is less useful.
If we choose to adopt the idea that the word is offensive, then in effect we choose to be offended by it in future. And since haters won’t immediately forget the most widely known word, we would in effect be handing the word over to them and making it exclusively a swear word! Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy! I’d rather hang on to the word, use it myself in a positive way, and thereby keep it just a neutral word, rather than decree that it’s now an insult.
And what about when the haters learn the new name for our community? Changing the name of our community every five years forever to keep finding new words that they don’t know yet would be ridiculous. We’ve had a dozen names over the last 150 years and frankly it’s ridiculous already.

The discussion about rebranding the website sort of died last year – maybe the superficial change from TgR to TR in the content was enough for most people! I also registered the business name TransGender radio – as that seemed a popular (if verbose and cumbersome) option.
Well a year has passed…and an opportunity came my way that I have taken.
Over the coming weeks/months http://www.trannyradio.com will be phased out as the primary domain/site.
In its place you will find an identical web site with the domain nameThats right! TgR became TR… and now its becoming TgR !

Guest01/06/2011 at 12:08 amI like the change, we can call it TIGERADIO. Though this may cause some confusion for the punters…as, might I say,was Virginia’s post when I read it?? You young people live in such a modern( confusing ?) world nowadays!

Guest01/06/2011 at 7:49 amI see that we are up and running with the new name, not sure about the new logo though. Perhaps something a little more dignified would suit better?
I am thinking specifically about prospective new members who may be put off by the cartoon characters. -

I am thinking specifically about prospective new members who may be put off by the cartoon characters.Which of course brings us to the obvious question.. if anyone has the necessary technical skills to create a logo then do have a try. My only requirements is that it has the letters T G and R…and has some reference to a radio.
Do I need to start a competition?? No – I don’t have a prize!!! -

Guest01/06/2011 at 10:52 pmTwelve months next week since our Web Mistress introduced this thread: TR &/or TgR are good & recognisable brand names. What’s to improve?
The only addition I believe may help improve the service are links to, or a repository for well written opinion pieces, like some of the better written pieces found at TSRoadmap. I’d like to see more written about the other end of the spectrum/continuum – the cross dresser. Lots available written by or about full-time gender non-conforming girls.

Guest01/06/2011 at 11:25 pmHi Amanda,
I have a sort of concept suggestion for your logo.
The basis of it is a beacon (as in a Radio beacon….) for the Trans world..??
I’ve put a sample at http://members.optuszoo.com.au/ramair1/TGR_1.jpg It’s not very adventurous, but more a concept.Keep up the good work
Joanne.
